Looks like there is so much interest in these boats! I just picked up my fist boat...a Pelican Bass Raider 10. I put on a Minn Kota C50, 4hp Johnson outboard on the back, and a Humminbird fish/depth finder. Also replaced the seats with some nicer padded plastic seats with swivels from Wal-Mart. Adding a live well this week! (homemade from a cooler). Pics are coming. I was thinking of starting a whole forum dedicated to these small plastic boats? What do you guys think?

Hello all. Great thread you've got going here!

Just bought at Pellican Bass Raider 10, and getting ready to purchase a trolling motor for it. Any recommendations?

I'll be using it on a 190 acre freshwater lake. Most day's it'll be two, 200 lb fishermen + gear aboard.

I'm considering a Minn Kota 30 lb thrust or a Minn Kota 50 lb thrust.

I'm trying to balance battery life vs power. Don't want to have the battery go dead in the middle of an outing.

Do I need the 50, or will the the 30 push her along at a decent speed?

Also, any recommendations on a battery?

Thanks!

Richard I use the 50 and it pushes me and my buddy and our gear no probs all day on a single charge. I just bought a Johnson 4hp outboard, so I can go 3-5 days on one charge.

Go with the 50, I got a 34 with mine, and while it's "good" with me alone, throw a buddy in there and it sucks. I've been kickin myself ever since for not getting the 50. Before next fishing season I'll have a 50 on the front for sure.

The 50 won't give you more speed, but it'll be better if you're loaded. Also, if you put it on the front, mine seems to pull better than it likes to push.

I have a Minn Kota Traxxas 45 lb. on mine and I use a pair of Group 24 Everstart Marine Batteries. I easily kill one battery in a day of fishing watersheds in my 10-E. I can get by with one of my Group 34 Marine batteries but then I have to swap it in and out of my big boat so I just use the pair of 24's. IMO, the Traxxas is made for this boat, one hand deployment and return, super easy to adjust, the handle extends and also tilts up or down and if you want to it is easy to cut the shaft to whatever is your perfect length.

I have the

Minn Kota® Endura C2 Transom-Mount Trolling Motor 36' shaft and I love it. I try to stay off speed 5 to try and save batt. life. But it will scoot pretty good when on speed 5.

I would got with atleast a 45. I got the 55 on sale at Dicks sporting goods for 179 with rebate.

A few more findings about the Bass Raider 8E. I love this boat. It weight about 85 pounds and I can easily get it into my small pickup by myself. I built a couple of "bunks" out of 2 x 6 lumber covered with I/O carpet so the boat sits up with the seam higher than the truck bed. Try to avoid the concrete ramps as they tear up the plastic. I use a 40 pound MK motor mounted on the front (turn the head around). Rarely run on #5 speed because it draws the battery twice as much as speed #4. The amp draw on the 5 speeds is 5, 10, 15, 20, 40. I built a rudder for the stern out of PVC pipe and an old metal licence plate; still working on the mount for that. I use the small Cabelas AGM battery because it weighs much less than the big ones. Still working on bungee or velcro to hold the extra rod along the gunwale.

I would love to see another forum for these boats. I use the Minn kota 55 on mine and it works great. But it's a heavy beast to load and unload and tote to the lake and back to the truck.

How long do these boat last? Do you guys think $300 for a really clean 2001 Bass Raider 10 is worth it? Should I just go for a new model which is almost 30lbs lighter?

Thanks

Has anyone done anything to the bottom of their boat. I was thinking about a paint on bed liner to keep it from getting all scratched up. I do my best to never drag it but it still happens sometimes. Anyway your thoughts on this would be great!!!

the spray on bedliner will just peel after a few weeks it wont stick to the plastic . but you can use fiberglass repair bondo and it will last longer if you just put it in the high wear area also truck liner will at allot of weight

here she is, still gotta rig her up though, let me know what you think. later fellas

i have the same one and its a awesome boat i can stand and fish all day and never worry and im 275lb i have bluewater lights all around and mounted my wishfinder on top of trolling motor and tranducer on the bottom of tm make sure you build a rudder and to move it around get a hand dolly and cut the arms and extend 10' with conuit that way it sits on it likme a trailer and slides in and out of a truck bed with ease

Any chance you can post a picture of the dolly?

That sounds neat, could you post a picture of it?

If it has a clean title and very little wear on the bottom, which is the main issue with these plastic boats. Then I would offer $250.00-$275.00. If they are still stuck on the $300.00, then I would opt for a new one, which runs around $499.00.

The photobucket app. Makes it about as easy as it gets for the iPhone.

Nice job timma. If I used something like that with my 8' Bass Raider, I wouldn't be able to shut the tailgate of my mini van. With just the boat, I can shut the tailgate, which is nice.

Why I have to love my little baby bass hunter. Wheels built in!!!! This little boat is heavy for what it is however even empty.
