Jim McC Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 I will look into putting down a layer of carpet over the floor just to have a barrier between the plasting floor and my bare feet. That still won't get rid of the non-flat floor. The little elevated pieces of floor bothered me. I recommend you carpet over 1/4" plywood. I used 1/4" luan. Quote
jaaron01 Posted June 13, 2012 Posted June 13, 2012 What size anchors are you guys using, and having good results with? I've had several occasions were I wished I'd had and anchor, but can't decide on what size/shape to get. Thought I'd ask others. Quote

I've had several occasions were I wished I'd had and anchor, but can't decide on what size/shape to get. Thought I'd ask others. I use a 10lb mushroom with a 25' rope, but I hate it, the rope gets tangled and the mushroom brings up suit from the bottom. I'm looking for a new way to keep the rope out of my way and I'm thinking that 10lbs might be a bit much for the boat, but I'm not quite sure. Jeffo, I mounted the transducer on the trolling motor with a transducer mount I picked up at Cabela's for 15 bucks, so I'm good there. I Just carpeted my boat and built a casting deck and am looking for a good deal on pedastal chairs. Quote

I'm heading to Cabela's tommorrow evening to exchange the one I got for something a little bigger, and that won't pull up the muck from the bottom into my boat. As for the rope being tangled and in the way. I took a couple of small foldgers plastic coffee cans and mounted them in the corners of my boat. Drill a couple holes in the bottom of them so they don't fill will water, but that's what I keep all my ropes/lines in, so they aren't laying all over the floor. You can see 1 in this photo, and they work well. Quote
Docktercolin Posted June 16, 2012 Posted June 16, 2012 There are so many great ideas on this thread, I don't know what to do next. Oh wait, yes I do. The rod straps or bungees on the sides has to be the best idea. The other day I had a fish on, turned my chair and kicked a $150 rig into the lake. Let that be a warning to every one who lays their extra rods on the side of the boat. Here is a pic of my little boat all ready to go. 4 Quote

I was thinking of adding one to mine, also planning on upgrading my seats to these: http://www.walmart.com/ip/WISE-Big-Man-High-Back-Folding-Boat-Seat/10913401 Quote
Jim McC Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 Why would you want the seat so high? I just replaced the standard plastic seat with one similiar to your link from Walmart, but I didn't elevate it with a pedestal. I just bolted the pedestal base to the seat frame. Quote

I just replaced the standard plastic seat with one similiar to your link from Walmart, but I didn't elevate it with a pedestal. I just bolted the pedestal base to the seat frame. I'm a short guy at 5'5, but with my boat the seats sat a little lower than I wanted, and sometimes would make my back hurt. Plus I felt like I didn't have any room in the boat, and things were always getting shoved under the seat. I went with pedistal seat to raise the seat, and make turning around much easier. I used the 11' pole, and went I got the seat mount that goes into the pole, I had to cut the spring out, cause it made the seatabout 2 inches to high for me. Once I cut the spring off the seat mount plate it was the perfect height. One thing I will add is if you go with the Pedistal seat and are a bigger feller, use 3/4 preferable 1 inch marine ply for the floor. Your seat / pedistal will only be as firm as your floor is. 5/8 worked for me @ 170 lbs, but theres a little flex and if I was to do over I'll go with heavier plywood for the stiffness. Also for attaching the floor to the bottom of the boat, I didn't. I just cut the ply to fit the bottom of the boat and it just rests in there. It's heavy enough not to need attaching, and won't blow out going down the highway. Quote

Docktercolin Posted June 18, 2012 Posted June 18, 2012 The seat riser works really well for me. I am six foot and the stock height made me feel like my knees were at my ears when my feet were on the sides. Didn't think I liked it at first but after changing it out and making one trip, back on it went. That riser is seven inches, it was all Wally world had. I think with a padded seat, seven inches would be way too tall. Another good thing about the riser is that when the wife is with me I can see over her head. The bridge that I made is half inch PVC and left over quarter inch luan that I had left over from the floor project. It turned out pretty nice I think. Now I have a place to mount the fish finder and tackle at hand. I'll try to post a close up later. Quote
Docktercolin Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 here is a close up of the fish finder mount and tackle storage. All the wood parts were covered with fiberglass and I carpeted the top and inside of the tackle box compartment. If I were to do it again I would make some raised sides so i could store stuff like soft baits. It's really nice to have what you need right in front of you. I have five or six of the little boxes and just change them out depending on what i'm fishing for. 4 Quote
tnriverluver Posted June 19, 2012 Posted June 19, 2012 I may have missed it, but what is your tackle holder frame made out of PVC? Neat idea! Quote

They advertised a Pelican 10 DLX for $499, but when I went to get one all they had were 10-E's and they were $499. Quote
Docktercolin Posted June 20, 2012 Posted June 20, 2012 +1 on the E at academy $499. That's where I got mine. Quote

ARH4AU Posted June 21, 2012 Posted June 21, 2012 What's the difference between the Bass Raider 10E and 10DLX? The 10-E has internal wiring from the rear of the boat to a pre-installed plug in front for Trolling Motor power. Quote

I just replaced the standard plastic seat with one similiar to your link from Walmart, but I didn't elevate it with a pedestal. I just bolted the pedestal base to the seat frame. I'm 6'+ and without the risers my knees felt like they were around my ears. With the 7" risers I have plenty of leg room and can turn around much more easily in the seat. It also makes it much easier to stand up from the higher position without unduly straining my old knees, LOL. Quote
jaaron01 Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 I'm playing with the idea of shade for the boat, still. I know I've heard the "blow around like a sail boat" argument before. But I have this idea of using a Sports Brella. I was thinking of using one of the pedestal seat bases, and reverse mounting it with the 3/4 pole (that's supposed to slide into the pole) stick up, cut off the spring, and mounting it in the middle of the boat. Then find the correct size of PVC pipe that will fit over the pole and fit the umbrella handle to get it up to the correct height to sit under. Then all you need is a place on the front and rear of the boat for the side straps of the umbrella to tie to and it should hold firm, which a couple of C-clamps would work just fine. Now if you "really" wanted to get high tech, you could use some kind of adjustable base like on the big Porch umbrellas, with the adjustable mount, so you can tilt the umbrella. Maybe even some kind of heavy duty fishing rod holder that can be adjusted to tilt. If you put it high enough I don't think it will interfere with casting as much as you'd think. This umbrella is like 7 ft, and they make a 9 ftr as well. It gets hot out here on the lake, and this seems like a viable, and under $100 fix that should work. I watch "Swamp Men" on the TV and I've seen their set-up with just a flat tarp on top of the boat, and works for them catching gators. I'm thinking the 7ft'r on the 8 foot boat would provide enough shade for a guy on either side of this thing. (see attached photo), plus it's height is already adjustable up to 80 inches, so might not even need a piece of PVC pipe, just put it over the reversed seat base. Quote
fishcat Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 Cabela's has the male plug for the Pelican bass raider trolling motor socket. tnriverluver Posted June 22, 2012 Posted June 22, 2012 With the umbrellas I have on my Jon boat that are mounted to the seat you just have to cast sidearmed. They don't get in the way most of the time. If you stand up out from under the umbrella you really have to be careful when you rare back to throw overhanded not to catch the umbrella with the hooks. Didn't take long for me to find that one out Quote
BassZombie Posted June 23, 2012 Posted June 23, 2012 Going to Academy to get my Bass Raider 10E tomorrow. And a tackle box. Maybe I'll hit the water Sunday. 2 Quote
