Lots of great information and ideas on this forum. I've decided to purchase the 10e as soon as I can find one for a decent price on craigslist. I'm going to put a 50lb thrust foot controlled trolling motor on the bow. Anyone think this will pull too hard??

Wow thanks for the link jaaron, think i'm going to pick one up. Pist a pic with on when ya get it abd let me know what ya think about it.

Got her loaded on the trailer, and under cover. Seems like a decent cover, i think it's worth the 32.00 dollars or whatever it was. It's not paper thin but it's thin and light so we'll see how it holds up in the nebraska weather.

Used the trailer today, and lord is that nice. Back up, push her off, fish, back up, float her on then puller her out. No back pain at all. Still need to get a sheet of plywood for the floor so I can strap down my battery and not take it in and out all the time. I'm just afraid of having to hit the brakes to hard sometime and sending that 60lb battery rolling thru the boat.

Does this cover come with a frame? Also will it fit a 10 ft bass raider?

Tanks for the pics and link.

It don't come with a frame. It's made especially for the Bass Hound 8 or 10 ft'r. It just slips over the top of everything and has an elastic courd sown in it, which is supposed to catch on the seam of the boat.

I have the 40 lb. thrust bulldog on my bow.Would not recommend anything much larger because everytime you hit the pedal you see the motor mount flexes. The 40 has all the power you would need.

How do you have it hooked up? do you you have it in the front hooked into the in-hull wiring with the battery in the back?

Posted

Yes I have it hooked in the front with the prewired plug and the batteries in the back.I also have a 55# thrust on the back for a backup. It seems the 40# in the front moves the boat faster than the 55# in the back.

Jaaron when i'm trailering the boat back and forth , I run one of my tie down straps thru the seat frame and over top of the battery and the boat, seat and battery are all secure.

Unfortunatley that won't work on my boat. Apparently my boat is deeper than most. When I run the straps over the boat, there's a good 6-7 inches of space from the top of the battery to the top of the boat. I did however use bungee cords for the seats to hold them in. I lift them off the rails and sit them down on the floor, then run my bungee across them. I drilled small holes in the rails so the bungees would attach and stretch across from side-to-side.

I just thought using the plywood would be easy, plus stiffen up the floor, although it doesn't need it. I do love this boat, and now with a trailer it's even better. I've had a lot of folks eyeballing it and asking questions, and as I do have it stored on the side of the house, I thought I better get a little insurance just in case. I take the trolling motor and fishfinder off, along with my fishing poles, and leave the rest in the boat. Thru Progressive for $119.00 a year they insured everything against theft, fire, acts of GOD. I guesstimated it would cost about $1600.00 to replace the trailer, boat, battery, upgraded padded seats, etc.

Wow! I'm glad I came across this thread! Sooo much information here. Hello to everyone, this is my first post.

I'm in the market (Craigslist) looking for my first Pelican. I'm a big guy though (6'4" @ 320lbs) and I can't seem to find any decent information on how stable these things are when you're solo fishing and no real counter weight on the opposite end. Any other big guys here that own one of these in the 8' or 10' that can speak to stability on the water and moreover the stability of the stock seats w/ aluminum frames?

Total capacity looks like 600lbs, but I'm sure the manufacturer was intending that weight to be spread out.

Ideas? Thanks in advance!

Hey Bighoss,

Ive got the pelican bass raider 10e (10 ft)

Im about 6ft, 310, and Ill sometimes fish solo. Ive got TM, and battery in the rear, and I cam move my seat from back to front without any problems. I sit in the back when im steering, and ill move up to the front while fishing. Boat is very stable either way. I can even stand up and fish, no problems.

Even with me, and a friend (about 200lbs), with battery, cooler, and all our gear, the boat is very stable. Still rides high in the water. Its an awesome boat !

Can you also stand up to cast/fish if you prefer anywhere on the boat solo?

Love this thing, perfect for a first boat.

Looking for a trailer for mine real soon. Every trailer I see is either made for a V-shaped boat or is just a straight up utility/landscaping trailer. Yours looks to be the perfect size. What size is it, and where did you locate it?

Thanks in advance for the info!

I started off looking for a Jet Ski trailer that I could just add a floor to. However after posting on Craigslist what I was looking for, a guy replied with a 4X8 ft utility trailer and wanted $200.00 for it. But after seeing the trailer in person, and noting some issues, he gave it to me for $100.00, plus a new light set. All I did was add the floor (which it didn't have) for about $40.00 with 8ft pressure treated 2x6's.

Today I found on Craigslist a couple jet ski trailers for like 100 to 125 a piece. As mine is an 8 ft'r it was a little easier getting a trailer that fit, than finding one for a 10 ftr. I would just look for a utility trailer without a floor, that's what I did. Trailer is light enough I can pick up the rear by myself.

Has anyone put truck bed liner on the bottom of their boat? I was thinking about doing it since I fish a lot of rocky rivers. I know it will add weight and take away from some of the "speed" but would like to toughen it up though.

Bed Liner Spray? Interesing question. I would only do it if you were riding solo.

Well if your going to use it for river fishing, I would highly recommend doing something to help protect the bottom of the boat or go with a metal boat. My Bass Raider was purchased from a guy who also used it twice to fish a river in Virginia. The bottom has a few gouges from the two trips, but nothing too serious or no leaks.

My brother had a john boat that has some leaks on the bottom of it so He used black jack tar that you buy for roof repairs and covered portions of the bottom with it. It worked great. He would just have to reapply it every now and then.

I was meaning I didn't know how much extra weight it would cause after the spray therefore I suggested only going solo with it. Only way to find out is spray and see.

Thought I would share some pics.

I needed a way to mount my fish finder, and mount the transducer in front of the boat. I run trolling motor in the rear, so the TM mount wouldnt work for me , and I didnt really want to screw holes in the boat. So I turned to PVC (AKA Grown Man Legos)

This is made from 1/2inch pvc with a piece of diamond plate zip tied to the top. I have a mini 12volt battery underneath to power the fishfinder. I've got plans to add a rod holder, and measuring tape.

This is for the transducer. 3/4inch pvc, notched at the bottom, and drilled to hold the transducer. Simply hangs over the front.

(Pic has it mounted on the rear because the boat was loaded front first)

I tried it out this past weekend, and it worked great.

does your platform, just ride in seat tracks? or is it secured down?

WOW, that is a nice setup. But I would have sold you a Humminbird 215 Portable Depth/Fish Finder with a suction cup transducer and a new trolling motor transducer mount kit for $90.00 + shipping. It's in excellent condition and only used a couple of times.

Ooooooooops, SOLD!

It just rides the seat tracks. I can move it back and forward as needed.

yeah, sure can.Its my first boat as well, and i love it.

its especially good when lake levels are low, like they are here in west texas. Big boats cant get in when ramps are closed, but i can ;)

I havnt tried it myself, but from what Ive read on other forums its a bad idea. Apparently it flakes off pretty easily, and just turns out to be more of a mess, than any protection.
