Couple questions about the little BASS BEAST! Does anyone have carpet on the floor of thier bass raider? If so where did you get it, what is the best options and dimensions? Also trolling motor options??? Was thinking about a Minn Kota Endura C2 30-lb. Thrust but like the 40 lb.... does 10lbs make that much different in such a small vessell? Also is a battery box a good thing to use or just a waste of money?

I have had a 30lb, 40lb, & 55lb Endura on mine so far. The 30lb was too slow for me. There is a nice jump in speed from the 30 to the 40. Not so much of a difference in speed between the 40 & 55. I would get something in the 40-50lb range.

I just joined this site as well due to this thread. I had been wanting one of the Pelican Bass Raider boats for the last 30 years, ever since I saw them in the Bass Pro Shop catalog. But at that time they weren't common in my area of central Florida and if I wanted one, I would have to order it and pay out the you know what on frieght charges. So I had to settle for Jon boats, which I like as well. But since I retired, I have gotten the bug again about wanting one of these two man plastic boats.

Again, all the places the sell them in my area Like Dick's Sporting goods, Bass pro Shops, Sports Authority, Sports Unlimited either don't have any and require special order or stopped carrying them. Bass Pro started carrying the Pond Prowler line by Uncle Buck's. But they never appealed to me like the Raider. So I thought I was SOL, But thank goodness for Craigslist. I found a fellow selling a mint Raider, with everything from 55 pound thrust motor to Life vests. So I snapped it up.

I haven't gotten out on the lake with it yet because the day I picked it up, I came down with a cold and have been nursing it for the past 3-4 days.

anybody, done anything new to there boats? Would love to see pics. I am back and forth between a pelican or small jon. I think this type of boat will work great, for the type of fishing I do.

I wanted one of these boats 30 years ago, but I couldn't find a place that sold them in or around my area. So I had to settle for a Jon boat. I really enjoyed the Jon boat, but I just couldn't forget about these little boats. So after 30 years, I still couldn't find anywhere around my area that sold them. So I lucked up and found a used one in great condition and bought it.

Now, to me, there isn't that much of a difference between the two except for weight. A 10 foot Jon boat weighs about 100 pounds unloaded where one of these weighs about 150 pounds unloaded. Plus there is a bit more drag due to the pontoon shaped hull over the Jon boat. Also, patching an aluminum Jon boat is a bit easier if needed. I have used Black Jack Tar pitch to patch a small leak. With this RamX material, there's not much that will stick to it.

You might also consider The Pelican Basstender, it's shaped more like a little boat. But everyone that I know of that owns one loves them. I don't think you can go wrong with either my self.

I'm in the process of trying to find someone in my area who is wanting a 55lb thrust with a 42" shaft. It's just too blasted heavy and overkill for my Bass Raider. I'm costantly worried that the motor is going to snag something with a shaft that long if I drop it down a ways. But if not then I'm riding around with my arm up in the air steering the motor.

I think a 30-40 pound thrust motor with a 30 inch minimum to a 36 inch maximum shaft would be perfect for this boat. Plus the 55 weighs better than 25 pounds and after a few trips to the lake that motor gets awfully heavy for me to keep taking on and off the boat.

Here's a picture of my Bass Raider setting at the beach where I rented a spot to keep it so I don't have to keep loading and unloading it from my truck. It's on a beautiful spring fed lake.

Would love to see photos of everyones rigs. Almost finished with setting mine up, waiting on the outboard before posting pics. I have a Raider 10E, with tm, ff, lights, rod holders, and a few other little mods, and working on getting the trailer set up right also.

Basstenders are not made by Pelican. They were made by Waterquest but were discontinued a few years ago. I have the 11.3 model which is great to fish out of either alone or with another person. They are pretty heavy so they are hard to load and unload from a truck, but this extra weight makes them very stable and will keep you from blowing all over the lake when it gets windy.

You are correct, I was thinking of the Pelican Predator, which is the same as the Basstender.

I just traded up my Pelican for a BassTender, got it at the end of the fall so only got to use it once last year but really liked it. As you can see it is on a trailer, which is great, because I was getting tired of pulling my pelican in and out of my truck. Got it, two trolling motors, and the aluminum trailer for 800, pretty good deal I thought, it is the 12.5 model.

Someone was asking earlier the best way to store there boat over the winter. I carried mine down in the basement for the season. Also I can work on it down there in the warmth. Did upgrade my seats to the padded Wal-mart seats they sell. Also still trying to get everything situated the way I want it.

Still trying to figure out a rod holder of some type but not much luck yet. Everything is either to big or wont fit. I'll post some photos' later today when I get my camera up and running. Was wondering if anyone had used one of those Huminbird Fish'n buddies? I was looking at the 120 model, but couldn't decide if it was worth it, or just get the 110 version.

I'm new here and have been following this topic for about a month now. I too have a Bass Raider 10E boat that I bought about two years ago. I had another small pontoon boat, a Bass Hunter, and I used it for several years. I like the inexpensive pleasure of using my small boat on small lakes and ponds. I'm still trying to make a decision about what new trolling motor â„¢ I want, as well as a fish finder (FF). I'm about to make the decision to purchase a Motorguide bulldog series TM (40 lb. thrust) and mount it on the front transom. It's a foot controlled motor that mounts on either end of the boat (transom / bow mount). I appreciate the input about the 'rudder' ideas and will be building one of those as well. I am within a few weeks of ordering tne FF and TM. I think I will go with the humminbird 570 DI portable unit and try to figure out where I will mount the suction cup transducer. I currently have one of the first 'fishing buddy' portable FF that was originally made by Bottomline. It has served me well, and still shows depth and water temp., and the side finder has been a great help over the years. I had almost bought the 140 color series of the fishing buddy recently, but have decided I want the Down Imaging (DI) unit to study some small lakes that I fish in. I will also mount the old Bottomline portable unit to have the advantage of the sidefinder (it still works..). I bought a utility trailer to haul my boat on and have a removable rack that I bolt down with carriage bolts and wing nuts. I cut some small square holes in the bed of the trailer to allow the ramp / gate to fold flat and install the rack when in use for boat transport. I also fashioned an area in front of the trailer to carry my TM battery, and it fits nicely betweeh the pontoons during transit. I will try to post some pictures of my current set-up, and follow up with my upcoming mods. Thanks everyone for the great ideas, and I will try to contribute as well...

I am going to buy one of these (Bass Raider e) from Dicks within the next week or two. I posted in another thread that Dicks no longer offered the 10e but it's now back on their site at $599 which I doubt will be beaten.

I plan on keeping it strapped to the wall in my garage over the winter. Winter here can often get to -25 to -30 F. Is this too cold for it? I've kept my Old Town canoe in the same conditions with no problems. I understand that few people on here live in this cold climate.

This is how i mounted my depth finder for $6.00

I went to Lowes and bought a pipe repair clamp and a flat piece of metal stud plate. Drilled a hole for the clamp bolt to go through and drilled holes for the depth finder mount. Total cost $6.00 The other clamps in the plastic are for mounting the transducer to the trolling motor. They cost $2 at wal-mart.

So I decided to get myself a little utility trailer for my boat. Wednesday I'll order a Hitch for the Van, and I've got a fellow whose got a 4x7 utility trailer and wants $200.00 for it. We'll see how it all works out. Should save the old back some, and the trailer is small enough to stand up against the wall in the garage in the winter times.
