2) How stable are they? I want to do some stand up spin fishing and some fly fishing. Im getting old and wobbly :annoyed1:

I got a bass boat now but I've always seen these things and thought they would be awesome for small ponds and places where gas motors are not allowed.

Thanks

As was mentioned, very stable for the areas these types of boats were designed for. This will be my 3rd season with the Pelican 10E and I love it. Allows me to get into some real remote, shallow areas that I would not otherwise be able to access.

What’s the wire gauge size for the pre wired pelicans?

the TM I have comes with a lead of 6 gauge, I think the pelican is 8 but can’t find confirmation anywhere.

I just want to make sure I got the right size but connector to put the TM to the pre wired plug

That’s not 6 gauge wire, I don’t have mine anymore but I believe it was 12 gauge. Might be 10 but I don’t think so. Even if you buy a plug that’s a different gauge it will still work, just solder and heat shrink your connections.

Never soldered before.  Would a butt connector crimped with shrink wrap work?

Probably but soldering is super easy. I’m sure you could find something on YouTube. They make butt connectors for exterior applications, probably the best bet if you can find them easily.

...Also anyone tried making the whole boat a standing platform? No seats just turning it into a motorized stand up paddleboard pretty much? Using the original floor to store things? ...

I believe I saw one picture of a Pond Prowler done like that.  I would think the only problem with that is it would be a bit awkward to reach over the side to either land a fish or grab something off the surface or just under the water.  With a raised platform on the just the front, you can still sit on the edge of the platform (feet on the lower section) and reach easily over the side of the boat.  Think of when guys land fish on full size bass boats, they leave the front deck & go back to the sunken cockpit to reach into the water.

As long as you aren't getting passed by full sized boats making full sized wakes, they are very stable.  Having a plywood subfloor increases the stability (and carpeting it increases the comfort when standing).

I'll stand when fishing jerkbaits or skipping docks, but once I hook up and begin fighting the fish, I'll plop my butt back in the seat.  It is convenient to be sitting, fighting a fish and then just reach over & land them without having to move from where you are.

I'm getting ready to buy my second bass raider.....going with the 10ft this time.  Trying to decide between a 40 or 50lb endura motor.  I realize the 40 is enough, but I go out all day and usually venture far.  Scooting back to the ramp fast with a 50lb thrust sounds appealing.  However, I am curious if even though I generally stick to speeds 1 or two mostly during the day if the larger motor will drain my battery too soon. Thoughts?

I used a 40 lb endura the first year I used my pond prowler. It worked fine unless the wind was blowing. I fish in a pretty big lake and when the water got choppy it felt like I was barely moving. A few months ago I bought a 55 lb variable speed endura Maxx. It only moves the boat 1/2 mph faster but it cuts through the water a lot better on those windy days. I don't notice any more battery drain since I switched but the variable speed is supposed to have less battery drain.

I have the 55 lb variable speed endura Maxx as well. The variable speed is more efficient as you dial exactly what you need and are not stuck with preset speeds that may be too fast or too slow. I load the boat down with two 200 plus guys plus battery and gear so I went with the strongest 12v trolling motor and my group size 21 battery matches and last a full outing when fully charged. We get just over 4 MPH fully open when water is not choppy but typically are trolling on very low speeds to hold spots or move slowly along the shore.

Just my 2 cents...

Any waves or rain can get water inside the hull that way. And I was wrong, it's not Sun Dolphin who has the repair kit. It's Pedal Boats website that has it. The way I found out is I bought my BassHound 9.4 used and it has a livewell in it and noticed the drain plug area was allowing water in as well as the 2 areas on the aft that they used to inject the floatation foam inside the hull were taking on water, due mostly to age I assume, I tried to use silicone caulk...it didn't work so started doing some research and found out about HDPE and the HPDE cement/epoxy.

Also installed the base for my gps/depthfinder on the lid for the battery compartment and used screws/silicone.

Could you please provide a link to this HDPE glue/epoxy?  Thanks

So this is my new pelican bass raider 10E. Found a good deal on a little used trailer. We've already replaced the Jack, installed eye bolts for strapping down, and sanded it down to be repainted. I think we've figured out a floor for it as well. Picked up a good used deep cell marine battery from my wife's grandpa. Have a 45# thrust Minn Kota endura max on the way, and already got our big foot controller in.  Still need to hook up the Garmin cv4 we just bought and install rod straps and a few other things. Can't wait to get it done and take it Out!

I've looked at that foot control peddle...just didn't know if it would be worth it....

Last summer, I acquired a new Bass Raider 10e and paired it with a Minn Kota Enudra MAX 55 LB trolling motor & an Autocraft group 29 marine battery. I put the trolling motor in the rear and used the pre-wired power line to house the battery up front.

I kept the boat stock during the summer & fall seasons. Over the winter, I have been gathering a lot of parts to customize/ make it more suitable for my fishing style. First and foremost, I bought a Garmin Striker 7SV, 20ah battery and built a custom battery box. I decided to mount the transducer on the front of the boat using an old trolling motor bracket that I picked up for $20 at a salvage yard. Now, I am just waiting on my RAM mount to arrive so I can install the head unit. In addition to the FF, I installed a 1/2" plywood floor & covered it in black outdoor carpet. I am also waiting on a few RAM mount rod holders, which I plan to mount in the rear for crappie trolling.

Attached are a few pics of the floor and transducer mount. Will snap more once I have the final setup complete.

Hey guys, I am new to the forum here, but have used it for ideas and different mods on my Pelican Bass Raider 10E, so thank you for all of that.

I was wondering if anyone has had any issues with the 8AWG wiring that is pre-wired in the boat. I have mine set up so that I can run my 55lb thrust MinnKota Traxxis in the back of the boat, and keep the battery up front. I am a big boy (275lbs on a good day), so as I stand towards the back/center, I can keep the extra weight of the 12V battery up front to keep things balanced.

I recently purchased the TM plug to utilize the wiring inside. my second time out, the 40amp inline fuse melted, but didn't pop the fuse. After reading up on this, it seemed that this might have been because of a poor connection inside the fuse. To replace it I purchased and am waiting on a 40amp inline flat fuse holder which I am going to install upfront, closer to the battery.

My concern however is that the 55lb TM may push too much amperage for the length of the 8AWG wire and the 40amp flat fuse i just purchased.

Has anyone had any issues after switching to a new flat fuse with the fuse constantly popping, or still with the fuse holder melting.

Any info or advise would be appreciated from the #plasticboatnation!!! Thanks, Dennis

Some sick setups on here - gave me a bunch of ideas to rig mine out. I got a coleman bass classic off CL that I'm up fitting. I put down 1/2" PT ply glued and wrapped in Lowes outdoor carpet. Looking at doing a casting deck with pedestal seat; how are you guys anchoring the decking to the boat, or are you? My thought is if you lean back on pedestal seat the ply will just loft up and flip backward. I plan on doubling up 1/2 ply to make 1" thick, mount the pedestal mount to that and then place that on top of where the stock seat rails would lay in. Any thoughts on doing it differently or an effective non destructive way of securing the deck to the boat?

- 40amp inline fuse

Dennis,

Going off the chart from the TM manual, your circuit breaker was too small. Shouldn't have melted, however - just should have blown. The wire is technically too small for your TM and will heat up at max draw and could cause an issue. Being a bigger guy will make the motor go to max draw pretty quickly. May not hurt to run 6 AWG and a 50 Amp breaker?

Those with a floor, no issues with it catching wind on the freeway and blowing out? I’ve been thinking about doing carpeted wood but nervous about going 70mph+ and having wind get under it and flip it out

Sorry for the delayed response, I never saw this when you first posted it.

I have a 10 ft Pond Prowler with an older 48lb Motorguide & I have melted two of the fuseholders in the past 4 years (twice in about 200 full day trips).  Neither time did the fuse pop, instead the entire assembly just melted and I had to splice in a new one.

I'm not sure what caused it to happen either time.

I am assuming it will be in the bed of a truck, if so, just crisscross a pair of bungee cords across the top of the boat.  I don't believe the wind would get under the floor, but even if it did, the bungee cords would stop it from leaving the boat.

I think the seats would have a better chance of getting wind under them & lifting out.

The 2 times I hauled my boat, I put the cover on & then strapped that down to keep it attached.  As long as the cover stays, everything inside the boat stays.

I screwed my deck to the boat. If I was going to put flooring in the bottom, I would put some 3m 5200 under the wood, that would hold it in place.

I have three floor sections all plywood and carpeted and yes when trailering I have had he mid section lift due to wind. My remedy was to place the  trolling motor and other weighty items over the sections with bungees to keep them from shifting. This solved he issue. Takes a few times to figure it out but once you have a system you are all set.

New here! Joined because this seems to be the best bass raider resource on the internets. Got mine 3 weeks ago and almost have it ready to go. After getting my ancient TM out of storage its not worth repairing. Going to get a Minn Kota endura 40Lb next week. Then decide on an reasonable battery,  looks like rural king exide batteries are the better deals around me.

Hey guys.... Recently made and added this carpeted casting deck/storage bin to the front of my bass raider. it really works well and allows me to carry more tackle in less bags, keep a semi-dry storage area for my camera accessories and is a solid stand for my gopro tripod. Just wanted to share in case anyone else had ideas to do the same.

My next project is mounting my Hummingbird Helix 5 as I got an adjustable transducer mount from fishfindermounts.com

I like to keep my rods laid down on the side rails of the boat so I dont want to head unit to affect that.... any suggestions or ideas for location placement??? It would be appreciated.

Thanks, Dennis20180601_210831.thumb.jpg.4031bcf4bf9f21e350659431379ff53c.jpg

I put rod straps on the edge on both sides of mine. Right above where the cup holders are.
