etex Posted June 9, 2016 Posted June 9, 2016 Bassraider 502 really nice set up. I didn't see how you had your transducer mounted for your fish finder. I have mounted my TM on the front and added a removable rudder to the back which works really well. What are the advantages to TM on back of boat? Quote

I am looking to order my motor for the back of my bass raider so i can have it all here at about the same time. My supplier sent me some specs to go off of. Can someone help me with these specs and if they will work or not as i dont have the raider here to try and figure it out. Well that and its all Greek to me lol.. Here are the specs i was sent Transom Height to Center Prop: 21" Transom Height to Cavitation Plate: 16" Would anyone mind to measure the transom mounting top where th motor would mount tot he bottom where props would need to be in the water? Arcades Posted June 15, 2016 Posted June 15, 2016 I just got the baby bass 8ft. It will be here tomorrow. I'll be installing a bow mounted trolling motor, and possibly a casting deck if the floor isn't wide enough. I will post pics when the project is done. Quote

I need to find images of how everyone is mounting FF transducers. I mounted mine (elite 7) using a pvc arm that hangs over the side of the boat. I'll snap a photo of it for you today. Today is day two of my Northern Tool PWC trailer build. All I have left if the lights and to tuck the 10E onto it. I'll get some photos this afternoon when all is complete. Looks it will all fit just fine, but that thing is a PIA to put together. Quote
"hamma" Posted June 22, 2016 Posted June 22, 2016 For mounting a transducer? My 8' bass hunter has a seam that sticks out about an inch or so, connecting the top and bottom sections of the boat...Originally I had a portable model fishfinder, the transducer had a suction cup with a metal bracket holding the transducer. I took off the suction cup, got a springclamp at home depot and clamp the bracket to the seam in the rear corner of the boat. cost me about $2.50 Quote
Vernon Utsinger Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 Raider502: Nice looking boat and mods. I've had my 10e for about 4 weeks now and been on the water 4 times. I have a 5x8 Northern Tool trailer covered with 1x2 " plywood and a 1/2" plywood floor in in 2 pieces for easy removal. No carpet yet as I'm still making mods. to the floor for seat and misc. I built up the floor using 1x2 PVC board to allow space for mounting the base and reinforcement around the seat base. I used a similar pedestal as yours and a quick release base and a quick release seat base so I can remove all of it or just the seat. I'm leaving the rear as is except for a padded seat. I mounted the TM in the front with a detachable Big Foot and load the boat on the trailer rear end first. This allows use of the TM for unloading and loading and getting on and off the bank. This works real well. Now working on building guide ons of 1" PVC for back and front that will serve to keep the boat centered while towing. I like your winch setup and have to modify my tongue area to mount one. There is a cross piece on the V shaped tongue that restricts the crank handle. I'll remove this and run a 2x4 from the frame to the open slot under the hitch that will give me a straight piece to mount the winch. Also like your stop on the tongue. So far I've been using Military Grade plastic ties on mods instead of screws/bolts and nuts where I can for several reasons: no rust or loosening from travel, no loose metal to puncture the boat and easy removal when changes are made. There are some very nice mods posted on here that have been a lot of help in selecting, planning and preparation. Quote
wnspain Posted June 24, 2016 Posted June 24, 2016 I've seen trailers that have a center guide-on that fits perfectly between the sponsons. Quote
JaxBasser Posted June 27, 2016 Posted June 27, 2016 So can anyone familiar with florida law tell me how impossible it would be to register one of these with no title? Seems like all of them I find on CL never have a title. I'm assuming nearly impossible and not worth the effort. Quote
Joshua Colvey Posted June 28, 2016 Posted June 28, 2016 I received a couple replies on 1 or 2 of my questions. Was curious if i might be able to ask again. Dont want to make anyone made just looking to see if things would work before i buy. Can anyone tell or show pics of how they are mounting their fish finders and transducers? Can anyone tell me if this motor will fit. Here are the specs, Transom Height to Center Prop: 21" Transom Height to Cavitation Plate: 16" If it helps i plan to run a 45 lb thrust trolling motor on front and this 3.5 hp motor on back if the specs i listed will work. Hoping to find someone with about same motor specs so i know it will work. Quote

Can anyone tell me if this motor will fit. Here are the specs, I use the right side rod holder for the FF setup. I believe it was a 2" piece of pipe 10" long, welded a washer to top. then bolted a ram mount to it ($30.00 ebay).I mostly leave the setup in the boat all the time and just unscrew the head unit of the FF( helix5 si/di unit) when not using the boat. I also use the hummingbird trolling motor transducer not the stock one that came with the unit. That was a recommendation from the folks on the electronics forum here at B.R.. Some extra wiring in the way sometimes, but totoally portable and can remove at anytime. The trolling motor is a older motor guide Hyper-54lb, with a 45" shaft hope this helps 1 Quote
trick worms Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 I'm sure this has been asked before. How would the bass raider work for a small 500 acre lake? Could me and my friend fit on the sun dolphin 8 foot 6 model? We probably would have like 400 pounds ish including gear. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 In my opinion, 500 acres is starting to push it as size of lakes goes. I know some folks put small outboards on bass raiders to be able to get to further locations, but these boats are really designed for ponds & electric only lakes. Unless you are never going to venture too far from the ramp, you may want to consider another type of boat. While the two of you could fit in an 8 ft model, I find those cramped. Even though half the time I fish alone, I really like the 10 ft models better. That extra 2 feet really makes a difference as far as feeling whether that you are right on top of the other angler, not to mention rod & tackle storage. Quote

OCdockskipper Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 My home lake is a about 100 acres, but is spread out on about 350 acres of land because it is skinny in most parts. The main lake is over 1/2 mile long with 11 coves that finger off from the main lake. I would guess that a 500 acre lake is probably a couple of miles long, unless it is kind of bowl shaped. I have a 46lb Motorguide with 5 forward speeds. The lowest is a good slow speed that can keep the boat steady against a solid 10 mph wind. The highest speed motors the boat pretty well, I cover that 1/2 mile in less than 5 minutes. A 35lb would work, you just might feel like you are missing out on a top end speed or have to struggle a little more against blustery winds. Quote

OCdockskipper Posted July 1, 2016 Posted July 1, 2016 Mine is always on the water, at my dock, so I had a custom canvas waterproof cover made to keep it dry. BPS makes a "one-size-fits-all" cover that will keep dust & condensation off, but it isn't waterproof and I actually had it fly off like Dorothy during a particularly windy storm. If you store the boat where rain won't hit it & accumulate on the cover, the BPS cover is adequate. Quote

It is designed for a 10 ft boat with the seats in, so if it comes up 2" short, you can swivel one or both of the seats in the other direction to gain some length. Quote
Chet Punisher Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 Hi guys, new guy here. I'm looking at one of these boats for me and my son. He turned six this year and he loves fishing. I'm looking to fish inland lakes. I was wondering if I can get away with an eight footer? Or should I get the ten footer? There is one on sale for 575 near me. Thanks. Quote
OCdockskipper Posted July 3, 2016 Posted July 3, 2016 I always recommend a 10 footer for two adults to give each other more elbow room. For an adult & a child, I would still recommend a 10 footer for the same reason. No matter the size of the second person, the extra space of a 10 footer just helps with all of your gear. Plus, with a 10 footer, if your son gets bored, there would probably be room for him to lie down & take a nap 3 Quote
