atomicchicken Posted October 8, 2015 Posted October 8, 2015 Some time ago I replaced the ring terminals at the rear of the boat with a female mar-lan plug like what is in the front of the boat. Ā I finally got around to mounting it properly on the inside wall of the boat. Ā I run the trolling motor at the rear but with the mar-lan connectors at the front and rear of the boat it makes it easy if i want to run the trolling motor at the front. Ā I have a pigtail I made for my battery box with a male mar-lan plug. Ā I'm using the Minn-Kota power center so I did away with the in-line fuse. Ā Ā Quote
Tommy X Posted October 26, 2015 Posted October 26, 2015 I'm plan on putting my Pelican away for the winter next month, It has to stay outside. I plan on elevating it upside down longways on a couple of picnic benches wrapped in a good tarp with bungees holding it all together. Sound good? Or will cold ruin it? Also with an electric motor, can that be stored in a shed with no heat? This my first boat so I have to ask dumb questions. One more thing. I am tired of lifting this thing up in the back of my pick up. I go by myself 100% of the time. So I need to get a trailer during the off season. I want a good one that wont break the bank but not a cheapo like Harbor Freight, any suggestions?Ā Quote

I'm from florida, we don't have any cold weather but from common sense, I'd make sure there's no water inside both the boat and trolling motor. They boats have 2 piece hulls and sometimes water can get stuck in between the two layers. The trolling motor could have water in the prop area, or possibly the head, depending on how it's been stored. As far as a trailer goes, I've seen people use Jet ski trailers and even 4x8 utility trailers. Quote
Bozz Posted October 27, 2015 Posted October 27, 2015 <I want a good one that wont break the bank but not a cheapo like Harbor Freight, any suggestions?> Ā Hey Tommy. I understand the ramifications that many "Harbor Freight" products bring to mind...I like the good stuff myself. However, you will be overlooking a great little trailer in the 4' x 8' taller tire fold-up /tilt model HF has. It's a build it yourself package and it's perfect for a Pelican. If I did anything to change it from the stock configuration, that would be to lengthen the front hitch a foot or so. You could make it as pretty as you want...I should have painted mine or camo'ed it prior to assembly but maybe I'll do that later. But...to each his own. Ā Ā The little trailers have some outstanding reviews if one takes time to read them...guys overloading the juice out of 'em and yanking 'em across country with no probs. For the $$$ (on sale and % off discounts/specials), it's hard to beat. Quote

Bozz Posted October 30, 2015 Posted October 30, 2015 Can you back that Ā HF trailer up into the water? Yup, I honestly can. Small corrections on the steering wheel rather than over steering will keep you from looking like a serpent's tracking down the ramp. But...full disclosure...I have about 5 million miles on my tired backside wheeling stuff around that bends in the middle like this... Ā Ā Lil practice & you'll get the hang of it. Short trailers are tougher than long...1 more reason I'd like to extend the front of my lil Raider wagon. Quote

Thanks for the tip. I should be getting a new truck and trailer sometime in January. Ill take the rig out to my favorite lakes and practice backing up with the trailer while no one is around. I think I'll be pretty good by the time March/April rolls around when I'll have an audience at the lake Quote
BSFisher Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Hey everybody, I have a bass raider 10e and I am wanting to go to Lake Amistad. I was just seeing if anybody has experience with the boat in such large bodies of water? Quote
Tommy X Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 Hey everybody, I have a bass raider 10e and I am wanting to go to Lake Amistad. I was just seeing if anybody has experience with the boat in such large bodies of water? I have seen one in the bay by my house (I wouldn't try that). I feel safe enough in my boat to go on big lakes. I just wouldn't wander more than a 1/4 mile away from my starting point or go further out that a couple of hundred yards. Then again I'm old and don't take as many chances as I used to. lolĀ Quote
Tommy X Posted November 3, 2015 Posted November 3, 2015 I was wondering if anyone has tried using the BR yak style? I have a couple of places where I would like to try it. I have a very weedy, shallow lake with tons of weeds and stumps making using the motor a major pain in the ass. Tons of bass in there and the place gets almost no pressure, I picked up 8 or 10 in a couple of hours there one day, then the weeds got so bad you could barely travel more the 30 ft before stopping and clearing the prop. So I gave up on it. There is also another lake near me where no electric motors are permitted and it Ā is huge lake by NJ standards, again not pressured by bass guys. I looked at a couple of yak double paddles and I think I would have to lengthen it some since we sit higher than yak guys and add a rudder to the boat. Has anyone tried this? Quote

They don't paddle very well. If weeds are your problem, a push pole is a better option. Grass emerging to the surface leaves me a good guess that the water is shallow enough for this. Its not hard and can actually move you along nicely once you get used to it. Quote

Thanks, I was going to pick up a push pole as well. I know a few "fields" of lily pads I would love to get in the middle of. Quote
jitterbug127 Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Been looking for a truck. This dude being so wide sits tilted in small trucks. I am going to be getting an 8ft bed for it Quote
zachb34 Posted December 10, 2015 Posted December 10, 2015 Been looking for a truck. This dude being so wide sits tilted in small trucks. I am going to be getting an 8ft bed for itLong bed versus short bed isn't a big deal on a full size pick-up. My short bed isn't any harder to load and unload than a long bed and the boat is still in between the wheel wells. If you want a long bed, by all means go for it. Just don't think you need it for this type of boat. 1 Quote
jitterbug127 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I suppose your right but I'll be getting full size for sure Quote
zachb34 Posted December 11, 2015 Posted December 11, 2015 I suppose your right but I'll be getting full size for sureI know my boat didn't like my friend's ranger at all so full size is the way to go. Quote
fishcat Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 My 2002 Ford ranger works great for the Pelican Bass raider 8e. (I purposely bought this boat so I could handle it by myself). I cutĀ two 2x4's to lay in the notches of moldedĀ bed liner. The bed liner is made for doing this. Stapled some I/O carpet to the boards. I lift the end of the boat onto the tailgate, and push it up onto the carpeted boards, so the rim of the boatĀ sets justĀ above the top of the truck bed. Strap it down and go!Ā When it's not in use, IĀ stand my Bass raider up against the wall of my garage in a "cradle" made from scrap wood and a strap to hold it upright. I'll try to add some pictures soon. Quote
zachb34 Posted December 12, 2015 Posted December 12, 2015 I guess to be fair, we may have slightly different measurements. I dint actually have a Bass Raider. Its a Colman Perch which has now been rebranded to a su dolphon sportsman I believe. It was in the bed of an older late 90s ranger, I think. It didn't fit and had to be put in at a slant. Sure it handled it fine, but for someone buying a truck with their little boat in mind, the full size pickup gives a little more ease to the process of loading and unloading. 1 Quote
Wetahook2 Posted December 13, 2015 Posted December 13, 2015 I have a 2015 Nissan Frontier and the Bass Raider 10e fits perfectly in the bed. Ā Its only a 5 foot bed, so obviously leave the tailgate down and strap it down nicely and it works.... Ā Have traveled over 75 miles on the road with it in the bed with no issues... Check your wheel well measurements..and remember the pontoons are not as wide as the top of the boat (which I believe is 48")... Hope this helps... Quote
jaaron01 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 Decided this year to redo the flooring in my Dolphin Sportsman.Ā Before I had just a sheet of 3/4 marine plywood, with 1 pedestal seat base screwed to it.Ā Decided to build the floor up enough so that the base would set flush on it, and have a couple of compartments in the flooring for storage.Ā Got the hatch in the middle completed, but need to finish the front hatch.Ā I'd say the total weight is around 75-80 lbs, but I have a 4x8 trailer that I use for my little 8ft boat. Also added the battery box in the back to keep things secured going down the highway.Ā Nothing worse than hitting a bump and having the battery bounce around. 4 Quote
atomicchicken Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 jaaron01, that looks really nice. Ā I love the compartments! 1 Quote
jaaron01 Posted January 8, 2016 Posted January 8, 2016 I keep the boat outside during the winter, upside down on it's trailer, then pull the seat/flooring section out for storage.Ā It's nice to just drop this section in, and go.Ā Plus it weights enough that it won't blow out while driving down the road.Ā I made sure and made the compartment doors facing backwards so the wind wouldn't get under them.
