crawl4yourlife Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 You guys and your big boats.....less is the new more..... Â 6-1/2' rod shown for scale. 1980 Bass Hunter, 6' long. I was looking for ideas for this gem and found this site and this thread. Â Â Â Â Â Â Quote
lilsweepr Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 Bought my Elite 3x from Walmart! It was on sale for 90 there like Amazon, but had free shipping. I was interested in how you had your transducer mounted if you didn't mind showing it? Â Here's the pic as requested: Â I got it from Bass Pro Shops. It was designed for several lowrance models. It was more expensive, $25, then I would like but it's the only mount I know of. I see it as the little piece of plastic costing about $23 and the metal clamp $2 from the hardware store. Â I ran the cable up the trolling motor shaft and used electrical tape in two places to hold it. Could have used zip ties but I did not want to flatten the cable any and I can replace the tape as needed. Because you cannot cut the cable I left it wire tied and place it in the rod holder behind my transducer mount. I left the power cable full length also so I can sell it easier if I ever need too. I spliced the power cable into the trolling motor power with an inline fuse. Â Quote
Reyn Posted July 25, 2015 Posted July 25, 2015 I have the same mount, only Humminbird brand. < $18.00, free shipping, no sales tax on EBay. 1 Quote

Tried it out for the first time today and had a couple of problems at first. Don't think it was with the mount but can't be sure, i didn't see any "arches" at all that represent fish, just small dots here and there. Did you ever have this problem? Quote
lilsweepr Posted July 27, 2015 Posted July 27, 2015 I'm still learning to read it myself. I had the fish id on at first but after watching one of bassresources video s I turned it off my last trip. Notice in this video if the link worked, that the fish finder says a speed of 5mph. I have only gotten up to 2.1 mph according to my GPS and that was getting back to the ramp. That, I believe, will be why we won't necessarily see arches. Â Has anyone seen the arches that we are expecting? Quote
lt21football Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 Hey fellas, I am new to the topic and looking to purchase a 10e. I have a 2015 Colorado with a 5.2 inch bed. With the tailgate down, do you think I will be able to put a 10e in my bed with straps and it be okay? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. 1 Quote
DaveVE Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 My silverado bed is 6' and with the tailgate down my boat hangs over a couple feet. It doesn't budge with three rachet straps. I just put a red cloth or strap on the end to keep cops happy. You should be fine. Quote
Wetahook2 Posted July 29, 2015 Posted July 29, 2015 No problem fitting in  bed of my Nissan Frontier (with a 5' bed).  Should fit nicely in your Colorado...... Quote
DaveVE Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I have a 4 hp Evinrude that came with my boat. Pretty cool motor, but it is overkill and I don't like messing with fuel lines/mixture/more weight/one more thing to hook up at the lake. What I'm wondering is if I should just buy another deep cycle battery so I can run the trolling motor harder to spots and not have to worry about charge. I can sell the outboard and use like 1/5 the money on a battery and the rest on more mods. On the flipside, I have seen some 2hp Evinrudes with a built in tank that look to weigh quite a bit less. pointhunter75 Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 I have a 2.5 HP Yamaha 4 stroke that's about 37 lbs and much faster than my 45 endura max and has a 1 liter tank on top. I use it on a river I fish, because I want distance there for some of my fishing holes. Everywhere else I canfish all day with my group 29 ever start maxx and only use 1/4 to 1/2 charge. 1 Quote
lt21football Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Anyone else running a Minnkota Mx65 20lb thrust? I'm picking up my boat today and am worried this might not be enough power. Also looking into getting a 2.5 outboard but prices are not cheap. Quote
lt21football Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 Also would love to see/hear everybody's deck/flooring ideas. I will be split between fishing with a buddy and fishing solo. I would like to make a deck with a pedestal seat for when I fish alone. Have the back seat stay in to travel to the fishing area, then have the front pedestal seat to fish. This front deck will come out and be replaced with the other seat when I am with a buddy. Anybody have a set up similar to this? Quote
DaveVE Posted July 30, 2015 Posted July 30, 2015 The trolling motor depends on the size of water you fish. 20lb would be fine on a pond but I'd go bigger on lakes. The lowest I've owned was 28lb and I would never do that again. If a storm or wind pops up you'll be very glad to have more lbs of thrust, especially if it's your only means of propulsion. Quote
Reyn Posted July 31, 2015 Posted July 31, 2015 This is my fishfinder set up on my 10E; I recently purchased a Humminbird Helix 5 Si GPS from TheDigitalOasis.com for $444.95 and free shipping (you can get a less expensive Helix without side imaging). I mounted it to a Ram Mount specific to the Helix and attached it to the the plastick bar by the right front rod holder. No holes needed to be drilled through the hull. The yellow do hickel on the wire harness is a waterproof fuse holder for a 3 amp fuse that Humminbird does not supply, but they tell you that you must use a 3 amp fuse or bye bye warrantee.image.jpg Update: I took it out today for the first time. It showed me a fish, first cast of the day, 14+ inch bass on a swimming jig. 1 Quote

TimmyD Posted August 3, 2015 Posted August 3, 2015 Hey guys, I have spent some time looking through this thread to get some ideas for my bass hunter 2 man boat. Â I wanted to show ya'll my video clip of my mud motor I put on it . Â Today I cut the plywood decking to put in the middle. Â I am going to put a deck in the middle so that I can use 12" pedestals with the seats from my bass boat. Â I will look forward to posting pics as I do the mods and get some feedback and ideas. Tommy X Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Is anyone else unhappy about how easy it is to destroy the bottom of this boat? I bought mine new this spring, I had it out a dozen times or so and I'm getting worried I wont have a boat next season. I am very careful with it, I avoid gravel ramps, I never drag it around. The bottom still looks like hell. I though about gluing down aluminum strips, but why should I have to go through all that with a brand new boat with tough "ram x" plastic? After seeing Bass Pros version of the plastic boat, I think I screwed up by not looking at theirs first. The plastic seems 10x tougher. Other then that, I like the boat, I just don't see it lasting more then 2 or 3 years with light use. Quote
lilphill23 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Has anyone tried a Sully mount for mounting their transducer on their bass raider? Â http://www.basspro.com/Sully-Transducer-Brackets-for-Outboard-Motors/product/387/ Quote
pointhunter75 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Mine gets dragged over all kinds of stuff. It's scratched up but no problems. It's PVC so easily fixed by melting pvc pipe and welding it if you get a hole. So no worries. 1 Quote
bassinOUT89 Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Question for my fellow bass tub guys, my registration numbers have been peeling off, so I took them off completley. Does anyone know if permanent black marker would work for the numbers. Specifically one with oil based paint. This is what I'm talking about http://www.walmart.com/msharbor/ip/Sharpie-Paint-Marker-Pen-Oil-Based-Bold-Point-Black/39197669?adid=1500000000000007428620&veh=iphapp Quote
Reyn Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 I wiped on some alcohol, let it dry and the stickers have stayed in place. Quote
bassinOUT89 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 I wiped on some alcohol, let it dry and the stickers have stayed in place.i lightly sanded the area, didn't do much though. They stayed on almost a year* but I always hose the boat down every time I get home. So I'm sure that had something to do with it. I went ahead and used a magnum sized marker. We'll see how it holds up. Quote
jitterbug127 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Will this fit in the back of a pick up truck? 8 ft bed 1 Quote
jitterbug127 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 Nvm question was answered in previous thread Quote
pointhunter75 Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 They will fit in a 97 z71 step side bed, so easily in a fleet side. Quote
