Iceman71 Posted June 3, 2014 Posted June 3, 2014 Well Academy Sports shipped the seat, however they didn't ship the frame. I contacted them and they said the frame was on backorder and they're not sure when it will be in. Then she said that if it doesn't come in by the end of the week they will probably cancel the order. So now, I have to wait and see if they get one in, then if they don't I;; have to order one from somewhere else and pay more for it and lose a weekend fishing because of the wait. Quote
jakesnapper Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 I have wanted one of these boats for years. I couldn't pass it up when Academy had them on sale for $279. It had been a toss-up between a BR and a kayak but the wife liked the idea of the BR better for taking the kids on the water. So, here I am....part of the club. I have a trolling motor that I will use on it but have not got it registered yet. Apparently LA has some extra red tape when a boat is purchased out of state. Anyways, in the meantime I was thinking of useing a kayak paddle. I haven't tried it out yet but it seems feasible. Especially with a custom rudder, of which I have not made yet but soon will. Has anybody used a kayak paddle on theirs? How well does it work? Quote
mmrivera86 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Hey Jakesnapper. My battery went out awhile back and so I just used the oar I had as my back up. It worked decently, but once the wind picked up it really sucked haha. I definitely would only use that method on a small pond, cause you'll oar your ass off and then realize you've only gone a few feet! Quote
tfultz Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Jakesnapper, rowing these boats is the last thing you wanna do. They do not row well! Quote
jakesnapper Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 Well, that is not what I was hoping to hear but I guess I will try it anyways. Either way, it'll beat bank fishing in some small WMA ponds. Hey, mmrivera, you aren't 11B , are you? I went to basic with some guys that ended up at the Hood. Quote

Bomber7 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Has anyone seen one of these? www.ultraskiff.com That's a cool little boat - thanks for the link Quote
jakesnapper Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 The paddling test results are in. A regular paddle is a no-go. An extra-long kayak did pretty well if seated on a board placed flat across the gunwales or used from the standing position like you would on a SUP. Obviously, going into a head wind or upstream was more difficult but not impossible. I think the use of a kayak paddle would be just fine for a small river float trip. No doubt, a trolling motor will be the easiest and best in most situations. The addition of a rudder helped a lot. In the future I will make a larger one but for a quick fix I made one from a old license plate zip-tied to a thin piece of scrap metal and C-clamped to the stern. As for the fishing report, I did manage to put 14 speckled trout in the box the other night while fishing from the BR. Thanks guys for the idea to use a rudder. Quote
basshead1 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Has anyone seen one of these? www.ultraskiff.com I like it but did not see a price, just under $1200 in the faq. Anyone else see a price? I like the idea of being able to roll it or use a hand truck. I do not think it will track well though. Quote
TNReb Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 I found out the hard way that the fuse that comes with the Pelican 10E isn't big enough for a Minn Kota Endura Max 55. I was trolling back to the boat ramp when I suddenly lost all power. Fuse blew and melted the wires right in half. Luckily I was only about a hundred yards from the ramp and had no problems padding the rest of the way. Quote
TNReb Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Bow fishin rig. That looks great. Any details you care to share? Do you use your boat for regular fishing? Just leave the lights/mounts on and remove the front deck? 1 Quote
tfultz Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 TNReb, wish i could. A friend of mine who bow fishis found it on a web site, screen shot it and sent it to me. Thought i would share. I cant seem to get pic of mine on here. Ive tried everything! Quote
Brock Grigsby67 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Does anybody flip or pitch sitting down from y'alls boats? Do y'all have trouble doing it Quote
pointhunter75 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Tnreb, I've been meaning to cut that inline fuse out since I'm using a minn kota power station battery box just to avoid that possibility! Need to get on that Quote
pointhunter75 Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 Oh and I'm using a endura maxx 45. No probs with the fuse so far Quote
Iceman71 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Bluetooth speaker and paddle set up. Where did you get your paddle mounts from. I have been looking for them for a while now. Quote
TNReb Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Is your bluetooth speaker rechargeable or battery operated? What make/model is it? I have one, but it only lasts about 3 hours. I've had it go dead plenty of times. Quote
