jlearsi67 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I really don't have the outboard experience with the raider yet, but the motor rating is up to 3.5hp for it. I would think the 4hp would be fine, but the higher you go in hp, the heavier the motor tends to be. I'm going with 3hp when I start looking. I would look into this a bit more. basshead1 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 What does everyone here think of a 1999 johnson 4hp for my 10e? i have one in my sights for a good deal, im just worried it might be too much. I have a 3.5 and bends the transom at full throttle. 4hp may be overkill but worth a try if it is a good deal. Quote
pawnature Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I have a 4,5 Evinrude that will flex the transom pretty bad if you open it up. I had to reinforce the transom in order to use it properly.  [ Quote
fishcat Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I use a Hummingbird Fishing Buddy 130 on my Pelican 8E. It works OK for showing depth, weeds, and surface temp. You can play with the sensitivity to show fish or other objects in the water, but not sure it's very accurate for fish (please post any tips for optimal use, guys). Also, I continue to try different wood or plastic shims behind and under the clamp, to get it to hold firmly on the boat rail (a short wooden 1x2 works well). Finally, use fresh "super" AA batteries and attach the unit to your boat with a short cord in case it slip overboard (I use an old nylon stringer cord with a small karabiner hooked to an eye bolt). BigMoneyGrip Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 I got my 10E out for about 4 hours this past Saturday, my first real trip in it. I fabricated a rudder out of aluminum and lexan that works great. I have it on a hinge so it won't get ripped off and it's mounted with velcro. The velcro is enough to hold it on, yet is easy to remove. I machined a rod holder out of lexan toady because I was afraid I was gonna knock a rod into the water while fishing. The rod holder will also be attached with velcro. This will keep my reels from getting scuffed and be more secure than just laying them on the side of the boat. Â I love this little boat!!! Quote

ApacheGuns515 Posted April 15, 2014 Posted April 15, 2014 Sort of a funny question but for those of you with Bass Hunters where do you put your registration numbers so they aren't below the water line? The Bass Hunters don't have the large top part of the pontoons like the Bass Raiders do and they dont sit as high off of the water. Quote
Shines Mullet Shak Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 After viewing this sight I'm selling my alum boat and getting a 10e. My question is you guys who have filmed your fishing success how and what do you film with? Quote

I have a Kodak Easyshare Sport for still images and I just got a cheapo Ematic Sportscam video camera that is pretty cool. Here is a video I shot a couple weeks ago. I got the flu and didn't fish last week. I will be on the water tomorrow for some more footage. I am going after snook on the fly tomorrow. Here are some bass on the fly while I was fishing for bluegill.   1 Quote

basshead1 Posted April 21, 2014 Posted April 21, 2014 I got skunked on the snook yesterday. 25mph gusts and a fly rod only lead to frustration. lol  I did do well today, lots of bass and a few bluegill all on the fly. I shot another little video of a few I caught today. Caught a nice 5.65 lb bass and wish I got to her last week when she was fat with eggs.    Quote

Some big bass in there and the water is super clear and shallow. I catch over 20 fish every time I go, one day I stopped counting at 40.Big bluegill in there too. Â Is that where you fished this weekend? Lots of little ramps in the Cape and I need to try em out some day. My buddy keeps trying to get me to go out at night and hit the snook lights in the salty canals. Hopefully he can make it this weekend. I've done Ceitus and Kismet launches for the salt but I have not tried any freshwater canals in the Cape. Quote
bartdude186 Posted April 24, 2014 Posted April 24, 2014 Well, deal fell through on the 4hp johnson. But today i picked up a 2008 merc 3.3. Anyone have the same motor? how well does it push a bass raider around? Quote

Blehmer15 Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 Hello, All! Â I'm a new member here. I have been looking for a Bass Raider/Buster type of boat for a few weeks now and found this site in the process. I bought a Pelican Bass Raider 8 at academy on sale for $279 on Sunday. I have been looking through this thread and seeing all of your mods and it has given me plenty of ideas for mine. I have already put a Lowrance Mark 5 Pro depth finder, Motorguide 30lb trolling motor, and battery with battery box on mine. Planning to take her out on Saturday down here in north Texas. I look forward to seeing everyone's transformations on their BR and I'll be happy to show the progress with mine. Â First question, what do you veterans think about having 2 people in the BR 8? Too small? Pushing the weight limit? Â I appreciate all of the help! Â Thanks, Brandon 1 Quote

I think you will run out of elbow room before you exceed the weight limit in the boat. It has a 500lb limit so it can handle 2 big dudes but you will have to work out a system. There are a couple guys in a small one I see often on a local pond and they have it down to a science. I have watched em work a shoreline and they cover it thoroughly and quick. Quote

I have watched em work a shoreline and they cover it thoroughly and quick.  Well I'm 210 lbs. I'm sure I can get me and a buddy in their or my fiancé. I have a local soil conservation reservoir that I plan on fishing that I have seen a few people with kayaks or small bass buster type boats fishing. More than half of the pond you can't get too from the bank and the spots you can get to have grass that comes at least a cast away from the bank, so it's really hard to fish. I'll let you guys know if we can figure out how to fish it with two in the boat. I think my next move is to add a wood/carpet floor or deck on the bottom of the boat. Should help stabilize things.
