Brock Grigsby67 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 How do y'all unload y'all's boat in the water? Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Man all I can say is wow. I love my little bass raider 10e. If your trying to decide just buy it. You don't have to feed it and you can just about put it anywhere. Spring is here and I've been out on mine about six times already and just caught my first wall hanger yesterday. I love my boat. 3 Quote
fishcat Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 If you have a small pickup, like a Ford Ranger, you can add wood "bunks" covered with carpet to get the wide part of the boat over the sides. This works real well especially with a molded plastic bed liner, because they have molded slots for 2x4 and 2x6 cross pieces. On my 2002 Ranger, I slide a 2x6 vertically in the back slot, and lay a 2x4 across the upper slot towards the front. I lean my 8E on the tailgate, then push it up onto the carpet-covered wooden bunks. Strap it down and roll! I'll post some photos later today. Â Also, I use "Rivnuts" to anchor 1/4" thread screw eyes and other mounted stuff. You can google them up. I ordered from an on-line auto parts store. Ten cost about $24 with shipping. Quote

Bomber7 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 sweet looking wall hanger SCTRAILHIKER - can't wait to get out in my boat however our spring seems to have been lost somewhere. Had a little snow again last night - man it's freaking April already enough of the winter weather lol 1 Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 our weather has been up and down also. I was lucky that this week we had a couple of 80 degree days but now its going to drop back down this weekend. But at least the water temp got up to 60 the days we were fishing. the fish in this water shed I fish have really started moving in to the flats. I spooked two the day before fanning out a bed and one of them looked bigger than the one I caught. they had a whole cove covered with murky muddy water. my 8 year old son caught a nice 5 lb bass the weekend before. 1 Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 fish cat I use a 8ft lawn mower trailer to haul mine. I took two pieces of 1 inch flat metal and drilled two holes in it so I can keep the tail gate flat and if I can drive to the side of a pond ill launch it like a big boat and use the 4x4 in my jeep to pull it out. works great I never have to pick up my boat unless Im draining water out of it. chancecraft Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Tonight I bought a 9 foot Bass Tracker, which looks just like the Pelican. Needless to say, this thing has seen better days, however i'm super stoked because it's the first little Jon boat that i have owned. The problem is, the boat doesn't have any seats. It has the slide rails like the pelican, so i was wondering if anyone could point me in the right direction on what to do about seats for it? Thanks! 1 Quote

First welcome to the boards. 2nd welcome to the thread. I know there is a link on one of these pages somewhere to place that makes improved aftermarket rails for many boats. Here is a place that sells em for many boats but no bass trackers. You could do some measuring and try it out. http://www.pedalboat.com/parts/parts.php   Found it. Try here too. http://smallwatersports.com/seatframe.html Quote
ApacheGuns515 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 For those of you without trailers how do you load the boats up by yourselves? I have the 10' Bass Hunter and while its not super heavy its not exactly light either. I was able to man handle it up into the bed of my truck but it took a lot of work. I have a feeling that Im doing something wrong here. Any tips or tricks or do you guys pretty much just dead lift the thing up there? Quote
tfultz Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I watched a guy at a boat ramp last year that was handicap. Walked with two canes and probably upper 60s. He backed his truck up to the boat ramp, pulled out two carped ramps. He had mounted a small 12v winch in the back of his truck with the controls close to the rear. Hooked it to his boat and that was it. Took a couple min. But it worked for him. Thought it might help or spark some ideas. 2 Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Â i have never loaded mine since I don't have a truck. I know that when I clean out my bass raider 10e I flip it around in my trailer with no problems. The only time mine is heavy is when my battery and trolling motor is on it. I suggest that you might be able to make some ramps out of some wood or something like that. I watched a video on youtube of a girl who fishes out of one of these boats and she loads it in the back of her 4x4. but anyway good luck with that boat because there a very useful bass fishing tool. ApacheGuns515 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Thanks, Ill play around with some different ideas and see what works.  Unloading is no problem its the loading up part thats a bit of a hassle. Main problem is the initial lifting the front up on the tail gate. I have to hop in the truck and bend over and lift it up. Once I get it on the tailgate I just just go around to the rear and push it in. It has to sit at an angle because I have a Ford Ranger which has the wheel wells sticking up in the truck bed. 1 Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 well I saw you have a bass hunter and I think there a little deeper than my bass raider I can stand mine up on end and almost carry it by myself. good luck to you but you can also look on craigslist for a cheap trailer. if you could find a jet ski trailer you would never have to load it again In your truck. and you should be able to find one for around 200 Quote
ApacheGuns515 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I've been keeping an eye out for small trailers on craigslist. I was actually planning on getting a bass raider. I was literally on my way out the door to the sporting goods store when I decided to just check on craigslist one last time and saw somebody selling a Bass Hunter for cheap. I went and grabbed it instead not even realizing the differences. I knew this would be a bit of a problem when we were loading it up after purchase. I got too excited and didn't care at the time though.  No worries though I still love my little boat. I took her out with just some paddles today because Im still waiting for my boating license to get here and I need one in order to use the trolling motor. No license required for oars though. This is my first boat and I love it. Excellent group of folks boaters and fishermen are as well. At first I was a bit intimidated about trying to figure out how to drag my little boat into the water on a boat ramp with all of these experienced guys with boats on trailers and whatnot. Got to the ramp and multiple people walked over to give me a hand and help me out. Got me set up in the water and I had the time of my life just being out there scooting along.   Hats off to you folks.  1 Quote
basshead1 Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I use a harbor freight trailer and it tilts. I have 2 ropes tied to the front handles and I just tilt the trailer and pull it right on. I paid like 250 on sale and with a coupon. You can get a 20% off coupon online.  This is what I have. I just added a plywood deck. It was easy to assemble. I did most of it myself and halfway through my neighbor came over and had to help me finish. It only took a couple hours and we took our time. http://www.harborfreight.com/1195-lb-capacity-48-inch-x-96-inch-heavy-duty-foldable-utility-trailer-with-12-inch-wheels-90154.html Quote
JaxBasser Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Looking at one of these on craigslist and it doesn't have a trailer with it. Would putting the 10e ontop of a jeep cherokee be possible with two people? I haven't seen one of these up close before so I'm not sure just how wide and heavy they are. Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I'm actually looking for either a used jet ski trailer or a trailer from harbor. You really can't beat that price. As far as raider vrs hunter I've heard the hunter is more stable. You made a good choice. I bought mine new for reg reasons south Carolina is very strict and if you buy used you have to pay lots and go through a lot to get your numbers. Quote
sctrailhiker Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 I'm sure if you had upgraded racks you could put it up there it just weighs a little over 100 lbs empty. Quote

I had a Cherokee before and I would not hesitate to put this up there or at least try it. I had a 98 and the roof was pretty stiff and ridged instead of flat like most car roofs. Quote
tfultz Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Finally found a trailerable cover for the Pelican. Its a little pricy but..what the heck! Quote
tfultz Posted April 6, 2014 Posted April 6, 2014 Has anyone seen the model of Pelican Bass Raider that come with a battery compartment and livewell? Its all pre wired.. Quote
jlearsi67 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Basshead, I purchased that same trailer from Harbor Freight. I got the smaller one first, then thought better of that idea and then returned it for the larger foldable one. I stopped by our local notary and found out all the fun and $ involved with getting a trailer kit trailer road ready. First a $100 inspection (so I'm told at least) and then another pile of $ for title, plate, etc..... If I would have known that, I may have just gone with someone's used one or one from some kind of dealer. When I finally get the raider out on the water this spring, it should ride nice and high because my wallet will be much lighter. Finishing up the trailer wiring, then I'm off to get it inspected. Could have used the boat today looking for ice out crappie/perch. We weren't reaching them by wading. The small boats made out today......
