BassMasterOkie Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 wow, glad i have come across this site. lots of cool mods done to these boats. I have done a couple to mine. 1. drain plug...didn't like it filling up with water when it rains. and it rains alot here in florida in the summer 2. rod hold downs... keeps em nice a secure on the move 3. handles for the sides of the boat....makes it easier to move when you have two people, not having to walk backwards 4. rudder....keeps her nice and straight 5. big foot switch... almost hands free now...turn it to one speed and step on the button This is why i love this little boat. 1466244_640135609370248_802847532_n.jpg All the mods I've made on my 10e have come from this site... if you have pics on the rudder I'd love to see. This has been my only real hurdle. LoL Quote
BassMasterOkie Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 I HAVE WHAT MAY BE A SILLY QUESTION REGARDING POWER FOR MY PRIMARY BATTERY AND FINDER. RIGHT NOW I'M USING TWO BATTERIES BUT WOULD PREFER TO SOMEHOW RUN BOTH OFF MY PRIMARY POWER BOX WITH TROLLING MOTOR. ANY THOUGHTS WELCOME. Quote

I run my trolling motor, 3 Lowrance Elite units, and also serves as my cranking battery for a 20 hp Merc all on a single group 29 Walmart battery in my flatbottom. Â No issues of any kind. 1 Quote
basshead1 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 It is bass season down here and I have the fever so I hung up my kayak and I have been putting the Bass Raider to use. I have already caught a couple 5 lbers and lost a 10lber(could've ate the 5lbers) at boat side. I need a landing net to save my back and prevent the loss of another hawg. Any recommendations? Â Â I went through this whole thread again, took a week, and I think I know which mods I will make for this season. I bought a fish finder earlier this year and I am finally going to mount it. I am just going to mount the transducer on my trolling motor and mount a couple of Scotty mounts so I can use my kayak's rod holders and FF mount. I am also going to work on a paddle mount for the kayak paddle that I use in my boat. Ack.com is a great site for discovering new things to use. Â I was looking into that 3M VHB tape that someone posted back a few pages ago and on 3M's website they offer free samples so I ordered some to test out. I will let yahs know how it works out. Â Someone asked about the Harbor Freight trailers a couple pages back. I have the 4x8 with the 12" wheels and it works great for the boat and my kayak. I even picked up a new stove with it the other day. I just bolted on some plywood and leave it flat. I was thinking about building some side supports for it too because there would still be room even with the width of the boat. Â I will post some pics of my work and if I catch another hawg I will post that too for you northern guys. Â Here is a healthy one I caught on turkey day. Â BTW if you haven't tried Zman Paddlerz, you should. They are made for salt but bass love em too. I use new penny or electric chicken for bass. Â Quote

When I got back into fishing 3 years ago after a 10 year hiatus, I purchased 2 nice Frabil nets with the collapsible handles thinking if the Pro's use them they must be good.  BIG MIstake!!!  After catching a catfish on a crank bait and netting it, the tangled mess and treble hooks stuck all into that net, I ended up having to destroy the hooks to get the bait back out of the net.  It is a mesh that looks similar to the mesh on your life jacket in your picture,  I ended ordering some more new nets from WallyWorld with the old green mono filament net with collapsible handles.  No tangled messes since. 1 Quote
basshead1 Posted December 19, 2013 Posted December 19, 2013 I am looking at the Ego nets right now. They make the wallet ache but they are supposed to be good. Quote
basshead1 Posted December 30, 2013 Posted December 30, 2013 I am guessing most of you are up north because of the inactivity on this thread. I have been getting plenty of slime on my Bass Raider. Fish Porn   I have always fished for bass but snook will eat a bass and they are good eatin. And they fight like a bullet with huge runs and lots of jumps.         2 Quote

Bomber7 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 nice fishies both basshead1 and py8pointer - my hunting season is coming to a close soon and I have been dreaming of landing a few big fish this up coming fishing season - just right now everything is frozen. I'll have my little pond boat out in full force once all the ponds thaw out. Quote

Bomber7 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Can you show me more detailed pics of your rudder? I need to build one soon and I need more ideas. Here is a photo of the rudder I made - basically is was metal I got from a road sign, a friend of mine cut it down to size and I used a steel pipe I got at Lowes. I purchased an MK TM bracket off e-bay for $30 and it works great cause if I need to adjust for different depths and shallow water I can - plus I can also tilt it up out of the water if needed. 2 Quote

I like the idea of the trolling motor mount but I need something that will kick up in skinny water or if I hit a stump. I was thinking about using 2 pieces of wood held together with a couple hinges for the mount and pvc for the shaft of the rudder and whatever I find in my garage for the rudder itself and then hold it on with some c-clamps. Quote
BigAL Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Ive always loved these boats just afraid Im too big for them Quote
basshead1 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Ive always loved these boats just afraid Im too big for them I am 200 lbs and have no trouble at all. I also see a couple local guys, one guy is at least 300lbs and the other guy about 200, cruisin around the local fishing hole. It has a 600lb weight limit and will definitely hold more on calm water. Much more stable than a john boat. Quote

BigAL Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 What really interest me in this type of boat is you can get in water that big boats cant. And alot less things that can break. Quote

What really interest me in this type of boat is you can get in water that big boats cant. And alot less things that can break. I don't know what part of Florida you are in but down here in the Fort Myers area there are a few electric only spots that are great for fishing and these boats are perfect for them. I also have an outboard and cruise the Caloosahatchee River at about 10 miles an hour no problem. I will be testing it out on the flats of Matlacha sooner or later and I am sure it will do great there too.  No regrets here. Quote

magic4jc Posted January 2, 2014 Posted January 2, 2014 BigAL, Â I am 280 lbs, and my brother in law is about 220 lbs. We both fish comfortably on the 10 ft bass raider. We even wanted to put it to the test one day, so we both stood on the same side rail, and bounced. Never turned it over, and never took on water. These little beasts are the miracle boat for a poor man! 1 Quote
