Bomber7 Posted July 8, 2013 Posted July 8, 2013 That looks amazing man!  I like the paddles on the side. How do you go about stowing your rods in the 8 footer? I am trying to make something to store them on the sides, but coming up short? I found these at Bass pro - holds four poles - I took it out this morning first time since installing these and my floor - everything worked out great, well except that the fish weren't biting but then again a bad day of fishing is still better then a good day at work lol. 2 Quote
Super User Ratherbfishing Posted July 8, 2013 Super User Posted July 8, 2013 A helpful tip: Don't store the boat in the back of your truck (unless you first turn it upside down). If you do and it rains very much, you will spend a great deal of time draining the water that not only collects on the outside but also that which seeps inside the boat. It's this latter water that will take forever to remove! Quote
tfultz Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 Seen a few post about using anchors. Any one consider a stake out/push pole? Would save space and weight. Checked some out and finally found one that's affordable and a good length. TnAstick.com Might have to have one for myself. Find my self pushing through skinny water with my paddles. Just a thought.. Bomber7 Posted July 9, 2013 Posted July 9, 2013 I bought and installed the big foot switch I have read so much about - also bought a handle extender for the TM so I can sit in the middle of the boat and still steer it - I pretty much go out alone. Working on making something to hold the battery and my milk crate - I'll post pictures when finish. Man I didn't think I was gonna put so many mods into this little boat - but after seeing all the things here which most seem to make fishing more comfortable and easier. Thanks to everyone for your ideas and suggestion. I have one sweet little ride now ....... next up a trailer lol which I said I wouldn't need but now I'm thinking it will be much easier launching and loading. Quote
k9gee Posted July 10, 2013 Posted July 10, 2013 Another view. could you please post pics of the compartments i have a basstender and im about to start building a floor and i wanna make the compartments you got. if need be i can send you my phone number and you can text me the pics. thanks. Quote
Bozz Posted July 12, 2013 Posted July 12, 2013 Just a silly observation that I haven't seen mentioned...those horizontal ridges in the bottom of the Pelican Bass Raider...they are actually a lower seating position by rotating the seat rails. That's just one of those "duh" moments I had today. Not that I care to sit lower but maybe a kid or the wife would. I have personally cancelled out that option with my new carpeted floor. 1 Quote
clay62 Posted July 21, 2013 Posted July 21, 2013   I haven't posted here  in a while but I do check the site on occasion. I rescued a lawn cart that was rusting away, and bought new wheels for it. The tires were dry rotted but the rest of the cart was ok. I made a small platform to bolt to the frame of the cart to serve a dual purpose when needed. This platform has guides to center my boat and can be removed easily by taking out four carriage bolts. I made the platform from left over treated wood I had from another project. I'm going to modify the handle that is a little bouncy, but otherwise this cart will serve to haul my boat in to small ponds that don't have a road for my trailer. I admire all the modifications and ideas presented here. Hope this gives someone else some ideas about a cart. This cart can be managed by one person without much trouble. I will try to post some pictures. Quote
Zoff Posted July 22, 2013 Posted July 22, 2013 I just converted my old Minn Kota Edge 45 bow mount to a transom mount but still stowes like a bow mount and has the foot control. Tried it today and worked great. Turns on a dime though. Quote

Got lots of good ideas for my 8' Bass Hunter off of this thread.  Currently working on a homemade rudder.  Will post pics soon. I love my bass hunter but I suggest you do what I am doing to mine. These boats will fill with water very fast if you are moving quickly in ruff water and there are two vent holes back towards the back of the boat. If or when you flood the floor of the boat that water will then leak into the pontoons (rain will do the same). I am in the carpet cleaning business so it was easy for me to suck that water back out but others may not find it too easy. Also that dry storage ain;t dry once water gets in the hull. I plan on plugging those holes up. Basshunter says they are there for air expansion during temp changes. I will leave the storage hatches a little loose or drill a hole somewhere else where this water cannot get in. I managed to completely submarine my boat a couple of weekends ago trying out my new 2.5 merc. Was moving and stepped up to the front of my boat where my dog, battery, and trolling motor, were also. These little boats still float just fine when completely full of water 1 Quote

I'v got the Bass Raider 10E with a 4.5 outboard and have never had a bit of problem with water, except for rain. When I'm on the lake though I never hit a boat wave head on which I wouldn't do in any small boat. The Raider rides higher in the water to compared to the hound. Quote
Docktercolin Posted July 25, 2013 Posted July 25, 2013 Just bought a new motor for my little bass raider and thought i'd show everyone the new set up. It's a 3.5 tohatsu and it is so nice to get to get around the lake a little faster. Last year I just had the 40lb trolling motor and it got about 3 mph, with the 3.5 I am getting about 10-12 mph. Not blazing but getting to different fishing spots is so so much faster. With the new motor came a complete rebuild and I think it came out great. Moved the trolling motor and fish finder to the front and the battery to the rear. I tried some stuff from Yak Gear, pad eyes with bungees on each side of the boat to serve as rod holders.(kicked a rig off last year) A z-ring on the front for tying off the anchor. The Yak Gear stuff uses trigrip riviots and we will see how well they hold up over time. 2 Quote
imwithtuxedo Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Got my rudder finished tonight. Â Went to Home Depot and picked up some supplies. Â I used two braces for fence building and bent them to give me a mount to the transom. I used a piece of 2" aluminum, and a cotter pin and clip to hold the aluminum in the bracket. The rudder swings freely in the bracket. Â Used a piece of plastic I had, similar to plexiglass. Â Will replace this with a piece of sheet aluminum or thicker plexiglass after I decide if this one is big enough. Â It's 5.5" x 12" right now. When you swing the rudder all the way up it rests on the transom. Â This will be great as I almost always fish by myself in my 8' Bass Hunter. Â I can only upload 150kb of photos so I chose one. timsampson Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 Just wondering if anyone has any written plans, pictures, and supply list for a rudder, im sick of constantly working the TM!!!! Circles make me dizzy!! I would like something similar to a TM bracket that you can clamp down. Quote

tnriverluver Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 I was able to buy my new 2013 2.5 hp Merc on Ebay for $700 shipped back in January. Every where else was $850 and up. I would dig around on there and see what you can find. The Mercs have actually been cheaper than the Tohatsus lately because of factory incentives I think. Quote
Docktercolin Posted July 26, 2013 Posted July 26, 2013 The tohatsu was 950 with shipping free. Did a bunch of shopping around and found this to be the cheapest. you can find other motors cheaper but they are suspect and who knows if you could get parts. Tohatsu makes all the merc's and nissans under 30 hp and from what I have read they are the largest outboard mfg. in the world. I agree 1000 bucks for a 3.5 hp is crazy. Look at the prices for 250 hp models, you could buy a new car for that kind of coin. Money aside I am happy now that I have another way of getting back to the dock. Last year I started wondering how hard it was on the trolling motor running on 5 for ten- fifteen minutes at a time. Has any one had a trolling motor fail? I have the Minkota C2 40lb. and it's been pretty warm sometimes when i pull it out of the water after a little cruise back in. And true Merc have rebates right now but I think it is dealer cash so still the same. On side note, I was wanting to post a couple more pics but every time I try it says max of 64mb? Also I thought the fourm was going to start allowing 750kb Quote
basshead1 Posted July 29, 2013 Posted July 29, 2013 Don't laugh but I picked up one of them Chinese Ebay Hangkai 3.5 motors. I paid $360 shipped from China, took 2 weeks to get through customs but it was worth the wait. It idles at about the same speed as my electric motor at 5 and it gets me through some heavy currents that the electric failed me on. It runs about 8-12 mph depending on the wind and the current according to my gps. I mostly fish saltwater flats and passes and this little boat moves really nice and I have not needed the bilge pump. It floats like a bobber right over some big boat wakes.  Here is a pic of her in the Caloosahatchee River, downriver from the Big O. They have been draining the Big O and the water is nasty right now and not many fish in the big river but I did manage to find some in the creeks the other day.   I use a Harbor Freight 4x8 trailer to tow it with my minivan and it works great.  And yes that is a kayak paddle, works great when standing.  1 Quote
