My Fuego will completely lock up on a retrieve and I am unable to reel without messing with it (depress thumb bar etc). It appears to be worse with heavier lures. It seems to happen mainly at the 9 oclock to 10 oclock position of the handle. I have another Fuego that is much smoother, this one seems to stick at certain spots and has more resistance when reeling.  I have dis-assembled it all the way to the internal gears (as far as I was comfortable going) on the handle side and didnt see any obvious issues. I have oiled the bearings and other areas Daiwa recommends but didnt fix the issue.

Thought I would ask on here before moving on and turning it into a parts reel for my other Fuegos.

Might be a worm gear/pawl issue. If you crank the handle while applying thumb pressure to the spool with nothing tied to the line and cannot recreate the problem, it's probably the line guide/worm assembly, but it's only triggered by a lateral load imposed by weight or resistance on the end of the line. Have you ever lubed it or the worm gear bushings? Next, pull the side plate, then pull the yoke/pinion assembly. With the crankshaft facing up, rotate it with your fingers in the same direction as you'd normally crank the handle. It and the worm gear should rotate freely and easily with no sticking points, and the line guide should traverse left to right and not bind at any point either. If it does, and if you're not comfortable going any deeper, then send it out to DVT.

I thought that at first but I can remove the pawl entirely and it still stick at about the same exact point each rotatioin.

I dont mind sending it out but at around $80-100 to replace, not sure its worth the cost.

Thanks for the link though to the repair shop. Its actually only about an hours or so away from my home.

Happened to mine recently. There are 2 springs pushing down a U plate on the gear that hooks into the spool. One of mine popped out and caused those issues. Removed the issue one and it works fine with just the one. Kills me to pay $8 shipping on a $2 part so I'm waiting....lol

I think i know the springs you are talking about but when I took it apart they were both intact. Maybe one is not sitting correctly. I may take another look. Thanks!

Where are you located? I can diagnose and get pricing for parts before you decide to scrap it.
