Both excellent choices,  I prefer the ergonomics of the Metanium(personal preference) just feels better for the way I grip the reel.

Metanium because of preference.

reel is a little more fussy but casts further, I prefer the shape in hand.

Steez A 2 is nice and drama free but just missing that fun factor for me. I like reels. This might be better for salt though.

Daiwa. Why? Because I only have daiwa and have never owned a Shimano

23 shimano Metanium or 23 daiwa steez a tw 2

At $650 dollars I’d buy two Zillions and call it. I own the Met and think it’s nice, but prefer the solid feel of the Bantam 18 or new, and the Zillion.

The Steez isn’t worth the money and with mag seal buying JDM means you have to ship it back to get service.

The 22 bantam is my favorite out of all my reels. That reel will last forever

I have the 20 Metanium and love it for jigs and soft plastic but I also just picked up the Steez A II and it has been great for crankbaits. The 2023 Met is going to be a deep spool version so I would choose based on the application you are going to use it for.

I prefer the Steez A II (jdm model) which you can get for 384.00 with free shipping from japan, very smooth and comfortable to palm. I got rid of the metanium because it was too finicky with the brakes, the 2016 model was there best performing model.

What gear ratio did you get ? Are you talking about the steez A HLC model you had prior to buying this new model?

Think you are referring to the Metanium B model, which is the latest model. I had one a while back and ended up returning it. The difference between the min and max outer dial settings made little different with 3 internal brakes on. There just seem to be something off with the reel. Maybe it was defective, but I have read other with issues as well. I have since acquired the Bantam A and really like it.

I don't have an A Steez model but do own the Steez SV TWS model and the newer model Zillion SV TWS. What I've noticed with the Daiwa reels is the brakes are much easier to adjust, it's just one dial with 20 settings and there is a hug difference between those settings. They are also lighter then their Shimano counterparts. However they are more finicky with Flouro line. With the Zillion if I use some JDM mono line the outside dial is on 3 or 4. With Flouro it's double that. The Bantam doesn't seem to be as sensitive when switching to Flouro line and might only need going up from 3 to 3.5. Not has much fluff up on the initial and mid-cast.

Feel wise they are different. Shimanos you can feel the gears, on the Bantam is super smooth more so then the Metanium. The Daiwas I have you don't really feel the gears. Kind of an empty feeling.

Hopefully that provides a little insight to make a more informed choice.

Note: if you buy a JDM Metanium you will not get the brass main gear the US model has. Hence the weight difference.

2021 Conquest 101. Since the new 101 size is the same as the one 51 one, I would customize it to BFS, since the ''New'' Conquest BFS is a joke.

All my casting reels are Shimano.  Their quality is far superior to every other reel brand I have tried.  For the money, I prefer the Chronarch 150MGL.  I can afford a Metanium, but I don't feel there is enough difference to justify the price.  Personally, I don't care for DC reels.  I don't change lure sizes and weights.  I use a different outfit for each technique.
