learnin Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 Gonna try drop shot, never fished it before. I've got braid on all my spinning reels. Will this work for drop shot fishing with a fluro leader? I seem to remember reading somewhere a while back mono line is better for this. Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted April 19, 2023 Super User Posted April 19, 2023 I use FC leader for my drop-shot fishing off of braid...I don't see the issue. 2 Quote
Super User WRB Posted April 19, 2023 Super User Posted April 19, 2023 This site has hundreds of posts on this topic and the majority drop shot anglers use braid with FC leader. If I had to guess it would 15 # braid with 8 lb FC leader 7’ to 10’ long. Hooks vary but size 1 Gamakatsu and Owner drop shot hooks are in the majority. nearly every new drop shot angler over works the soft plastic and used too heavy weightl. Take some time and watch several BR videos and read site articles. Tom Quote

msgf91 Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 For the smaller drop shot style hooks for nose hooking I use 5 lb sniper since you don't really need to set the hook, you just reel into it. Then for finesse cover shot hooks when Trigging I use 8 lb so I can set the hook a little. Quote
Susky River Rat Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 I started using 8lb sniper. I do like it. I feel like the slight stretch helps me not lose fish compared to braid Quote
JediAmoeba Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 5# or 7# Shooter up to 10# if there are sharp rocks. 1 Quote
TAUMI Posted April 21, 2023 Posted April 21, 2023 Yup floro works great as a leader. I use all 10 lb braid to 8 lb floro leaders here in the Great Lakes where water clarity is high. I use an Alberto knot to attach. Can’t get the dam FG knot perfected yet. Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 21, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 21, 2023 This has a lot of helpful info for you. And btw, braid is not necessary for dropshotting. 3 Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 21, 2023 Super User Posted April 21, 2023 I'd argue braid is a detriment to most drop shotting. I present my contrasting argument for it here. Sometimes you have to go against your preferences. https://www.bassresource.com/fishing/dropshot-bedding-bass.html 1 Quote
Super User ATA Posted April 21, 2023 Super User Posted April 21, 2023 I got my best results on 8lb mono. But if you are in clear water Highland reservoir I suggest 6lb test fluoro, The clear the water the longer the leader. Quote
Super User Hammer 4 Posted April 22, 2023 Super User Posted April 22, 2023 8 lb mono straight. 1 Quote

killobet Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 I use 4lb and 5 lb fc sniper on my 3 inch plastic. 1 Quote
learnin Posted April 25, 2023 Author Posted April 25, 2023 Thanks for all the responses, also watched some videos. Found an extra spool for one of my spinning reels and ordered some 6Lb fluro line. Sounds like the simplest way to start if I can keep the fluro from jumping off the reel. Quote
Super User J Francho Posted April 26, 2023 Super User Posted April 26, 2023 Get some KVD L&L. Seriously. 1 Quote

Super User TOXIC Posted April 26, 2023 Super User Posted April 26, 2023 Add me to the list of braid to leader haters.?. 1 Quote
