Super User Catt Posted April 22, 2023 Author Super User Posted April 22, 2023 Week later I can almost stand up straight, walking is slow & deliberate. There's still those occasional some beach, some where moments. 6 Quote
throttleplate Posted April 22, 2023 Posted April 22, 2023 I had 2 L5-S1 back surgeries, one in 1990 and again same disc in 1991 because the first dr doing the laminnectamy didnt do a good job and left alot of disk material rubbing the nerve. Back then the first dr didnt want to fuse my disc and i geuss he was afraid to trim the disc to close to the nerve and thats why i still had pain and numbness. The first operation was in New Jersey as i was living in Levitown PA. I went back to the dr in jersey but the insurance company said he didnt want to do a second surgery. So i being from north dakota and now out of work for a year living on workmans comp pay I went to live with my parents in fargo nd. I was turned down by every back surgeon in fargo. I ended up going to the University of Minnesota hospitol 260 miles away to have the surgery as they were the only hospitol willing to take on my redo surgery. The surgeon recommended i stick with the laminectomy and not get a fusion saying i was to young at 31 to lock my back up with fusion. He successfully cleaned the disc and scar tissue off of the nerve and to this day i am doing fine. Now since the 1990"s i have had 8 other joint surgeries including the neck which got fused, 4 shoulder surgeries, 2 elbow, 1 knee. To keep my body limber as i aged i do massive amounts of stretching. My shoulders, my rotator cuffs, neck, upper-lower back, hips, legs, even my jaw. Also strengthing exercises. I have been charting my stretching and strengthing routine every day for the past 5 years. I posted pics of my charts i made, i color code different sections of the body i am working on, i never ever miss a day even on vacations. 6 Quote

Super User islandbass Posted April 23, 2023 Super User Posted April 23, 2023 I am so sorry to hear that. I hope there’s a solution for you. The back is so important for many things we take for granted. 2 Quote
Super User Darth-Baiter Posted April 24, 2023 Super User Posted April 24, 2023 my good friend hurt his back in Asia. he said he had to lay on the floor of the airplane home most of the time. only got into his seat when ordered by flight crew. he went and saw his doc after really suffering thru the holidays. i called him a few times and i know him as the most upbeat human ever. awesome dude. his voice was different. he was sad and in pain. the doc took a look and said, "we need to operate, here are the risks...." my friend asked, "okay, when?" doc said, "what do you have planned for today? now?" my bud said he didnt have time to be nervous. they prepped him and did the surgery. he said the moment he opened his eyes he knew they fixed it. he was in pain from surgery, but not the back pain anymore. i got my upbeat friend back right away. best of luck Catt. you are lucky to have a great doc. 1 Quote
Susky River Rat Posted April 28, 2023 Posted April 28, 2023 I have back issues from one I raced motocross. It’s actually what caused me to stop. I have to watch how long I sit or lay down as it will be come stiff. At a moments notice it will cause excruciating pain I can barely handle. I won’t be able to walk or stand up straight. It can lasts for months at a time. Quote
Super User Sam Posted April 29, 2023 Super User Posted April 29, 2023 Tommy, you have to see a spine surgeon for a check up, x-rays, MRI, and maybe a CAT Scan to locate the problem. If you need surgery, please consider going to the spine clinics in Baton Rouge, New Orleans or Houston. Here are the spine centers in Baton Rouge. Cut and paste this link on your browser and see the number of spine surgeons in Baton Rouge. https://www.google.com/search?q=lsu+spine+clinic&rlz=1C1GCEA_enUS957US957&oq=lsu+spine+clinic&aqs=chrome..69i57j0i390i650.4335j0j15&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8 Dr. Shaffrey at Duke works wonders on spines but he accepts only the worse situations that other surgeons will not treat. Three years ago Dr. Shaffrey rebuilt my wife's spine; took a pie slice out of her spinal columnand bolted her spine to her pelvis so she would stand up straight, and so far, so good. I know Morrisville and Durham North Carolina are a far distance from Lake Charles, but try to find the best surgeon in your area, Baton Rouge, New Orleans or Houston and make an appointment ASAP. If you can, find a university spine clinic or hospital for the surgery and treatment. Cut and paste this Internet address in your browser and read about Dr. Shaffrey. https://www.dukehealth.org/find-doctors-physicians/christopher-i-shaffrey-md?utm_source=google&utm_medium=organic&utm_campaign=Directory+Management Sending good thoughts and prayers that you will have the issue corrected as soon as possible.
