I’ve never really fished the suspending jerkbait arena at all. And am looking for some excellent lures to start with. What would you guys recommend for the best lures in this category.

Thankyou!

I like Spro and 6 sense.

Like them in square bills as well.

110jr+1 in GG Threadfin followed by Shimano's WM Flashboost.

There isn't a best single one though.  Sometimes they'll eat a bigger 110 fullsize bait, other times you need to downsize.    Sometimes you need a shallow diver, other times you need a +1 and +2.

Sticking with the Vision line is hard to beat as they offer a bait in every category, and they all work awesome.

I've been really enjoying the sixth sense provoke line and the Berkley Stunna line. All of the rapala offerings and smithwick offerings are also excellent.

I'm trying to restrain myself and not buy the MB Vision line or Jackal Rerange line but as I build confidence in the technique I'm realizing that they're coming I'm sure of it! ???

This and add in a smithwick rattlin' rogue and you will be set.

The Rerange is the best warm water Jerkbait I've found.   It casts like a bullet, every bit as well as 110.

Very violent action, throws a ton more flash than everything I've tried besides the Shimano WM Flashboost.

I've been a Jerkbait guy my whole life, but it wasn't until this past winter that I went down the high end rabbit hole.   They are truly worth it.  Those three particular JDM baits are for sure.   110s are just the best at cold water, I don't know what it is about them because they don't suspend perfectly out of the box, or at least not all of them.    I bought about half dozen, tested them, only one suspended excellent.

This is a 110jr+1 with a 125+fish over the winter including a 7+......that's the cheapest lure in my tackle box ?

Duo Realis 120SP is a straight up winner, honorable mention goes to the lucky craft pointer 78/100SP.

Mega bass is obviously the top and the most expensive.  There is a whole lot of good ones in the mid range 10-15 dollar range.  Lucky craft, spro, Berkley stunners, 6th sense, KVD the lower end you have the smithwick rogues which, I like fishing in deeper rivers, rapala husky jerks also suspend.

almost pulled the trigger on a duo blue gill  DD jerk bait last but, I decided to go with the 6th sense deep blue hill jerk bait instead

Ive got dozens of MB, Duo, LC, and other top brands and none of them have been a true suspend out of the box.  So far the baits that are a true suspend out of the box have been 2 of the older RC STX JBs.  Having said that my favorites are still Duo and MB.  In the winter you need a true suspend or super slow sink, and its pain to get it right, but its worth it.  Once the water warms up a bait that takes 10 seconds to rise or sink a couple inches isn't necessary.

My favorite by far;

Nishine Erie Darter 115SD/MD hologram smelt

The MB oneten series, rerange, pointers, world diver, stunna, and the duel hardcore minnow make up the rest.  Jerk bait fishing is a blast and I definitely seem to find success with the more expensive baits, but the nishine could be my only one.

Okay, so the regular 110 is *not* a suspending bait. It's supposed to be a slow-float. They also make a medium-float (110 silent riser, not the same thing as a 110 silent) and a high-float version. Neither of which seem to be very popular, but that's all right with me :)

If you want a *suspending* 110, you need an 110SP (may or may not be a JDM-only version), or an 110FX. The latter is easier to acquire in the US.

Also, this whole discussion about "best suspending jerkbait" is kinda vague without knowing what diving depth and bait size the OP is looking for.

Going from shallow to deep, here are some *suspending* baits I like:

Flashminnow, 110 Magnum (there's a suspending version, and a floating version), World Minnow, Slender Pointer, Pointer, 110 plus 1, KVD deep jerkbait, Staysee v2 (there are three versions of the Staysee, v2 is the suspending one).

And that list contains probably less than a fifth of the different jerkbait types/ models I have. Yes, I love jerkbaits. I also love details.

If I had to pick only two, I'll take a 112MR Slender Pointer for shallow, and a made in Japan 110 plus 1 for deeper work. I feel the older made in Japan 110 plus 1's are a hair lighter (although I suppose that depends on the color) and you can tune them with slightly lighter/ heavier split ring(s) for warm vs cold water. The box will say the country of origin (Japan or Malaysia, I think I've seen a few made in Vietnam too).

Straight from the megabass USA website....

It is very much a suspending bait.

Others to look at are the Yo-Zuri 3DB SP-110 and SP-110 Deep

BTW, the FX version is different because of the bill. It suspends exactly like the original 110.

JediAmoeba, they can say what they like and/ or what the US anglers want to hear; I've seen/ heard that myth repeated enough times, even by folks like Matt Allen. :) Peace.

Here's what the megabass japan site says though:

EDIT: The packaging says it's a slow-floater too.

Vision 110 (softer snaps)

Pointer 100 (harder snaps)

Revenge (middle ground)

Slender Pointer 97, Pointer 98, Luck-E-Strike STX, and ShadowRap Shad deep diver (w/lead tape applied on belly right behind the bill to make it suspend) have been working good on the River.

I have way more vision 110s than I would like to admit, some from Japan. Depending on water temps, some sink, some float but most suspend. Change a hook or three out and you can get the desired action you want.

I contacted MegaBass to get their take on this subject, here is what they said:

" The Vision Onetens will slow float, which will vary in speed due to many factors—water temp being just one, with water density, line type and strength being some others. It may take some experimentation, but changing the hooks or upsizing split rings could help, or trying something like suspend strips or dots is not uncommon. If the baits rise quickly it could be another issue.

One note about changing the hooks: rather than going up a size, you may try using a regular wire hook of the same size (#6). Since our Katsuage are a more finesse hook, simply going with a more standard treble might help."

I've never had much luck with jerkbaits.  I have had good luck fishing Rapala DT's like they're jerkbaits.  DT4's 6's and 8's suspend really good.  The 10's and deeper rise when you stop them.

I've got a few jerkbaits I've come to enjoy at this point, but I've only fished them for the past two years.  There are more experienced anglers than me giving their opinions, but the following baits crush it for me in my water.

1.  Strike King KVD 300 Deep: this bait has caught the lions share of my jerkbait fish.  It is really, really good.  My favorite color is Ghost Minnow.  I've had my best days on it when fish were schooling under shad that were themselves schooled near a heat source, for me it's a concrete dam.

2. Yo-Zuri 3DB 110: this bait sacked up about 17-20 pounds for me this winter on about 6 or 7 casts during one particular trip.  It's my cheap Rerange, it doesn't cast as well, but it's very similar in every other way.  I fish it off the ends of laydowns and near other shallow targets.  Pro Blue is my favorite.

3. Jackall Rerange 110: this bait got me into jerkbaiting.  Like the 3DB above, it suspends well and slashes wide.  It sounds like a .22 unloading as you load it up, and when you unload the rod it zings over them mountains.  Incredible bait for covering a lot of water.  HL Hasu is my favorite color.

What is the difference in the lucky craft line between the MR’s and the slender pointer.  I know the lighting painters are supposed to mimic the mega bass sp’s

I have the mr’s and slender pointers but, never really had success as compared to like lighting pointers and regular pointers.

OP here, I asked cause I am just starting out as a Jerk Bait fisherman, especially the suspending type lures. But I’m unsure if there really is any True suspending baits out there.

Only thing Ive ever gotten into was using top water or shallow Xraps, nothing that went deep.

In the waters I’m fishing right now I’m looking for a suspending bait to be at around the 5’-7’ deep range, or at least somewhere close to that.

Thankyou all of you guys for all of your awesome help and suggestions. After checking many of your choices one that jumped out at me right away was the MB 110 Vision and in the Colors HT ITO Wakasagi and Clear Laker. Those two colors are spot on for the waters I fish. So I will be picking those up. I’m checking on others right now as well.
