Ski Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 A confrontation on the water that happened March 18, 2023 near Camden, Alabama between a homeowner and anglers fishing in the Fisher’s of Men bass fishing tournament on Millers Ferry went viral. And on Monday April 10, the homeowner Ronald Morgan, 66, was charged with interfering with hunting or fishing per section 9-11-270 as well as menacing. Morgan pulled a gun on the anglers and told them to “go somewhere else” when he didn’t like them being near his dock on the public waters in a separate boat. These confrontations are becoming more of a common occurrence because homeowners incorrectly believe that if they place a dock on a public waterway next to their house they suddenly own the public water that is beneath it and surrounding it. That, however, is not the case. While some areas can be deemed off limits for safety reasons, for example around marina gas pumps, most areas of public waters in and around docks are still publicly permissible. 1 Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 15, 2023 Global Moderator Posted April 15, 2023 Oh my word that’s where I go camping every year. We have encountered some angry dock owners but most very pleasant This deserves honorable mention in the Karen’s and Ken’s thread 2 Quote
BigAngus752 Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Social media has "taught" people that you can (and SHOULD) become enraged and vent your anger on strangers in the most hateful way with total anonymity and NO CONSEQUENCES of any kind. It's becoming prevalent now in face to face contact in our society. This is keeping all of us from treating each other with love and respect. We must think of others before ourselves. It's our only hope. 7 Quote
Super User AlabamaSpothunter Posted April 15, 2023 Super User Posted April 15, 2023 This infuriates me the older I get. I can't imagine being put into a life or death situation by low IQ tyrants who don't understand the law, and my right to be on the public water fishing around their dock. That type of guy will screw around and find out in time, whether it's road rage, or skinning the smoke wagon on the wrong guy like above. Seen it first hand in real life, you never know who you're going to pick on that won't feel like getting picked on. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 16, 2023 Super User Posted April 16, 2023 Just because someone is fishing? Wow. Quote

Super User gim Posted April 16, 2023 Super User Posted April 16, 2023 This is why I refuse to even fish around someone’s dock when they are present. I realize this guy was clearly in the wrong and the angler wasn’t doing anything they weren’t supposed to, but my ability to avoid someone completely is what I do, and what I will do going forward. 4 Quote
BassResource.com Administrator Glenn Posted April 16, 2023 BassResource.com Administrator Posted April 16, 2023 This is nothing new. It's been going on for decades. Case in point, all 3 of these stories happened decades ago: 2 Quote
