Super User DitchPanda Posted April 8, 2023 Super User Posted April 8, 2023 So my lady has suffered from stomach issues for several years. She recently had her gallbladder checked and they found several stones including one large one. The surgeon suggested having her gallbladder removed because of the number and size of the stones. This is a very common low risk surgery but of course she has gone down the rabbit hole so now she's freaked out because you can find horror stories for anything when you look. My question is have any of you had this procedure done? What was the experience like? Did you have any complications after? 1 Quote
Super User Tennessee Boy Posted April 8, 2023 Super User Posted April 8, 2023 I had mine removed about 20 years ago. I survived. I had a hernia fixed at the same time so they punched more holes in me than if it was just gall bladder surgery. It was not a big deal. Any use of my stomach muscles hurt for a couple of days. I had the surgery on Thursday and was back to work on Monday. Quote
Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted April 8, 2023 Global Moderator Posted April 8, 2023 I’ve known lots of women that have had theirs removed with no problems at all. My wife had a gall bladder attack and was screaming all the way to the ER, she has had to change up all the things she eats after having it removed. I’d say get that thing out of there, it’s no bueno when the time bomb goes off. On the other hand I wouldn’t take medical advice from a skunk trapper Quote
Woody B Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Mrs B had hers removed a few years ago. (2019 I think) She had problems off and on for a while, but when she finally got the surgery it was instant relief. It was outpatient surgery, went early one morning and was home by noon. Not much aftercare required. She's retired, but I went back to work the day after her surgery. (She was OK to be home alone) Quote

Super User islandbass Posted April 8, 2023 Super User Posted April 8, 2023 I think you can put her at ease. My good friends wife just had it removed about a month ago and she is fine and up and running. 1 Quote
Super User Bankbeater Posted April 9, 2023 Super User Posted April 9, 2023 A couple of my friends have had theirs removed. No big deal except for being sore for a while. Quote
txchaser Posted April 11, 2023 Posted April 11, 2023 Took a while to adjust to high-fat meals, other than that, no issues. Quote
Super User Catt Posted April 11, 2023 Super User Posted April 11, 2023 Had mine removed 2-3 yrs ago, surgery in the morning, home that afternoon, back to normal that night. Three tiny incision scars is all that remains. Quote
airshot Posted April 15, 2023 Posted April 15, 2023 Wife and I bipoth had ours removed, no problem...watch the diet, no issues after 10 years. Definately helped with digestion issues!! Quote
Super User clayton86 Posted April 16, 2023 Super User Posted April 16, 2023 Had mine removed 12 years ago. Mine bursts from the stone being so big or something. Was in a ton of pain one night bad stomach pains I chalked it up to finally being state side after being gone a year on deployment to just food change and all the alcohol I was consuming. Was so bad my wife at the time and her boyfriend(yeah….see alcohol consumption above haha) ended up coming to get me and took me to the hospital. Gave me some good drugs did some scans and came in and prepped me for emergency surgery or something. All that went down between 2am and 6am I was home later that night all in the same day. 1 Quote
Super User DitchPanda Posted April 30, 2023 Author Super User Posted April 30, 2023 Well she had it removed yesterday morning, out of surgery around 11am. She had bad nausea and vomiting yesterday but today she's doing better and has even gotten a little bit of her appetite back. Dealing with the surgery and gas pain now. 1 Quote
