MacJig Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 If you had the opportunity to go fishing but could take only one rod and reel combination which would it be? Let's narrow it down to Bass fishing. Which brand, model, power and action would you bring and why? Spinning or casting? How about the reel? It would be interesting to see how similar or dissimilar anglers truly are. Would most go to the higher end brands or do they have some lower tier favorites? I'm interested to read your answers and see whether those higher, more expensive brands really live up to the hype. Super User Bird Posted April 8, 2023 Super User Posted April 8, 2023 I'm not a high-end kinda guy. Shimano SLX on a Lew's Custom speed stick 6'10 med fast would cover most of my moving baits. $250 - $300 for a combo is my sweet spot. I would be lost though if I were reduced to 1 rod and reel. 3 Quote

Love my SLX. Have mine as a combo. Great combo at a nice price. 1 Quote

Cbump Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Of what I own… I would choose Daiwa Tatula SV Limited 7.1, Daiwa Rebellion 7’3” MH F 1/4-1oz, 15lb invisx fc I use It now mostly for weightless senkos, but can (and have) easily throw light Texas rigs like speed craws with 3/16 or so weight, 3/8 oz dirty jig finesse jigs. That would cover just about anything I need to do. Quote
Super User LrgmouthShad Posted April 8, 2023 Super User Posted April 8, 2023 iRod Genesis III Harold’s Lone Star Special, despite the name, is marketed as a “do-all” rod in a shorter package. I’ve had that rod for a while now and I agree with that assessment. I would switch reels around in my setups and pair it with a Lew’s standard LFS 6 speed. Baitcasting 1 Quote

The combo I bring depends on the lures I bring, the lures I bring depend on when and where I'm fishing, where and when I'm fishing depends on when and where the bass are biting, where and when bass are biting depends on location and time of year, time of year and location just are.... 1 1 Quote
Fat Ika Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Calm sunny day, clear water, moderate cover/vegetation - Dobyns Champ 764 spinning with a 4000 Vanford Calm day, any water clarity light conditions, heavy cover - Dobyns Champ 734 with 21 Zillion SV Obviously many more countless scenarios, but couldn't help thinking of a few situations If had to pick one without knowing any part of the fishing situation, Dobyns Champ 733 with a 21 Zillion SV Quote
Super User BrianMDTX Posted April 8, 2023 Super User Posted April 8, 2023 Well, let’s see. One rod, one reel. What’s my favorite way to fish? Easy-peasy. Texas rigs on the bottom. Simple choice. My Kistler Helium MH/F and a Daiwa Tatula 100H. 2 Quote

swhit140 Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 I would take a Dobyns Champion XP 734 w/ Daiwa Tatula SV 7:3:1, with that said all my rods/reels I own were purchase at 30-50% sale/discount prices. 1 Quote
volzfan59 Posted April 8, 2023 Posted April 8, 2023 Easy, BPS Platinum medium/fast with a BPS Platinum 6.8:1 reel. I find myself using this set more are more. While I use BPS Crankin' Stick's (with the same reel), for crankbait's, I would be comfortable throwing them on this set up. 2 Quote

Super User Bankbeater Posted April 9, 2023 Super User Posted April 9, 2023 Most likely a CT100H reel on a 6'6" St. Croix Premier. That should just about cover anything I would be casting. Quote
