what a debate!!  haha.

this thread compelled me to go into my garage to look at my rods.  I honestly dont know how many rods are cork and how many are EVA.  the material doesn't register on my radar of importance.

pretty interesting.  does a cork rod float a rig if tossed overboard?

A Steez SV TW, of course. BTW, not saying they don't, but I've yet to see a pro who's competitive using an NRX in a tournament. A Favorite is far more likely.

Almost 5 years and only the holy trinity knows how many casts later. No problems with the Winn grip, and it's a $79 DSG special which is often on sale for $59.

You are correct, I was lumping them together with the original NRX (he's won tournaments on those too).

For about .75 seconds, long enough to consider jumping in

It seems like g loomis sponsors less fisherman also. This would contribute to seeing less pros using them.

I love Winn Grips. I have a Lew's spinning rod it is my favorite of all the rods I've owned and I've had many rods in all price range.  EVA grips get dirty I think quicker than cork, you can clean all of them which you should.  It's a preference really, I prefer cork over EVA but Winn Grips beat them both!

I remember hearing Shimano was going to cut way back on sponsorships about 10+ years ago. Dave Mercer and Bob Izumi (Canadian fishing show hosts) were 2 long time Shimano sponsored guys who suddenly switched to repping Pure Fishing brands. Even Al Lindner was a Shimano guy at one time.

All this talk about Irod quality, all you have to do is take a look at the reviews on TW.

Tim and Matt on Tactical Bassin seem to be their best reps online nowadays. It’s odd that Gussy and Cooper Gallant are both Canadian, but also sponsored by Shimano. Pure Fishing has been taking over.

I’m seeing a pretty even mix of positive and negative.  Which were you referring to? A lot of people on their deriding their stiffness/lifelessness and talking about how they offer very little parabolic bend for swimbaits.

I admitt, it's been awhile since I've looked, but when I did, there sure were way more positive reviews compared to the negitive ones. And lets face it, there's always going to be disgrunteled customers, and it usually happens to most products.

Also if anyone did a a problem with the Irods, all they had to do is call Matt the owner to resolve it. As far as being "parabolic" my rods work really well, so I can't address that part of it.
