For your typical 3.5" ~ 4" beaver style,  soft plastic flipping bait - what hooks and size are you using ? My research starting place would be here in either a 3/0 or 4/0 hook size : https://www.tacklewarehouse.com/Gamakatsu_Heavy_Cover_Flippin_Hook_4pk/descpage-GHCF.html . This appears to be a good "sweet spot" as the hook is nether too stout or too light , has a nice gap and soft plastic holder ... *Your thoughts and experiences ?

For all bottom contact and a few others I use Trokar hooks exclusively.

Fir 2 of the 3 plastics you listed, I use the 4/0 Trokar Laser Flipping Hook

That Gammy hook is a good choice too

I use Owner Twistlock for Rage Bugs.

Light 3/0 for 1/16 and 1/8.  Open Gap for anything heavier.  I haven't tried the Twistlock Flipping....might be new?...but it looks like one I need to try for other flipping baits that aren't as soft as Rage Bugs.

Who am I kidding....I am highly unlikely to ever be throwing something other than Rage Bugs.  So rare that I find switching to to Pit Boss or Sweet Beaver makes a difference.   It has happened, but only a couple times that I recall

I use the G-power flip and punch hook from gamakatsu in a 4/0 for what you're talking about.  Its a little too big for a bandito bug but I don't like them and won't fish them after this pack is gone.  For a rage bug its perfect.  I also picked up some sixth sense hooks that were marked down on a prior order and they look good also.  The 5/0 sixth sense is about the same size as the g-power 4/0.

I will throw the Rage Bug on a Mustad Grip-Pin Offset Round Bend 4/0 & a 3/16-1/4 oz weight. I throw em on deep offshore structure.

99% of the time I'm using a Gama EWG or Superline EWG. Very rarely I'll use a Trokar flippin hook if it's extremely dense vegetation. Most of the veg I'm fishing is tullies so don't need to pull bass through pounds of matted grass.

One of the reasons I use Trokar’s is because of “need to pull bass through pounds of matted grass”

We all use what works and have confidence in.

My favorite by far is the G finesse heavy cover finesse.  The 2/0 works on jr size craws/creatures and has plenty of length and gap to work on full size creatures in clear water.  Stupid sharp and strong for the dia, havent managed to bend one yet.

I'll second that.  On 50 lb braid I've pulled up full trees and some heavy crap when I've hung up  I've never bent one and I've never broken 50 lb braid.  I've tipped the kayak by about 15 degrees though while pulling.

Like Mike said, here in Florida, we fish junk, thick nasty junk.

A lot of times we have 3-4 lbs of weeds on any bass.
Go big or go home ?

Everyone knows you can flip, pitch, or punch with Beaver style lures but they're way more versatile than that.

Totally Agree

One of the worst things bass fishermen do is get pigeon holed into certain baits to do certain things with certain things.

When Spearpoint Hooks first hit the market, for S & G's I ordered a sample pack. The first one I tried was the drop shot hook and I haven't used another one since. Each of their hooks has me switching as I need to order. It really does pin them.

6th Sense OX are my favorite flippin hooks, with VMC HD's coming in second. 4/0 for the size baits the OP mentioned

It appears having the 3/0 and 4/0 in the G-Power Flip & Punch would cover most uses - I can't see where the 5/0 would get much use in this series .

Yes, I would agree with that.  If you're throwing magnum sized beaver/creatures then maybe.  If I was throwing a space monkey all the time I would probably go to the 5/0.  For general work and keeping a good few in the box, a 3/0 and 4/0 would cover most anything.

I like these as well....just wish they came in a 4/0 also.  I like the fact they are a 'medium wire' hook.  Perfect for wood.

Try these Gamakatsu Aaron Martens G-Finesse Heavy Cover Hook - Tackle Warehouse

Theyre another 2$, but IMO its well worth it and they come in any size you need.
