Agree. The guys that win the most tournaments around here pitch soft plastics. 100% of the time, year round. They’ve gotten really really good at It and that’s what they do.
While the rest of the field is running around thinking the bass “should be hitting chatterbaits and squarebills. Well that’s not working so let’s try a spinnerbait. Dang not today. Let’s run across the lake.  I swear It's pre-spawn and Shad spawn. This should be working!!! Let’s run across the lake again.”

The curse of a co angler!

I just try to catch fish . Sometimes by doing something I'm not comfortable with . Thirty years ago I was mostly an off-shore structure fisherman. Today I am mostly a shallow water junk fisherman . As anglers got better those good off-shore spots became not so good.

It's better to learn a few baits very well, than have a huge box of baits you don't really understand. Plus, most bass lures are versatile, and can be fished in different ways.

Truth! I think we over complicate it most the time. I haven't fished many bass tournaments, but I've done fairly well in the few I have fished, even in lakes I had never seen before, doing the things that I know well instead of going crazy running a million different places and changing lures every 5 minutes trying to figure out the fish. I think a little more patience would go a long way for people (myslef included)

"Always fish to your strengths"

Over the 30-40 years that I fished tournaments, I fished against a lot of anglers.  The majority of consistent winners were specialists.  In my opinion, it is far better to be excellent at one or two techniques than mediocre at all of them.  What you must do is find fish you can catch, not fish the way you think the fish want you to.

Great advice - I appreciate it!
