”Fish the parts of the lake that fits your style rather than fishing your style in a particular part of the lake”

Good job keep experimenting.  But after 50 years of bass fishing, as soon as you think you figured it out, they make you look silly!  Just keep learning, it never stops, and no two days are ever exactly the same.  It keeps it interesting!

“Learn different styles and apply the one that’s best for where you are.”

That  applies to bank fishermen as well as boaters. Another way to put it is to fish your strong suit until it doesn’t work then try something else.
it’s much easier to adapt to conditions than trying to change them.

Yeah I think that the moving target aspect is part of what makes it challenging/interesting.

Just when you figure them out, they change.

From time to time I do get dialed in on a pattern and while they hold out...game on.

Congratulations.

Always be ready to Improvise, Overcome and Adapt.

Gaining experience in what you do, and confidence in what you know all the while fine tuning your strengths, will make all the difference.

I think this is something that can definitely help you most times, and I often do just that, but sometimes it pays to get outside of your comfort zone. I’ve always loved power fishing, big, faster moving baits on casting gear, and only occasionally used lighter line presentations. I finally started to make myself go offshore more often and use more finesse type stuff, and there are many times where that’s been the best way to get numbers of big fish. Had I stuck to my shallower, larger baits many days, I’d be coming home with a big ole skunk instead of a boatload of nice offshore bass.

You gotta fish where the fish are.  Gary Klein once told me no matter where he fishes if he can locate the fish there are no less than 5 lures he can catch them on.?

Offshore structure fishing doesn't mean ya gotta go finesse.

My offshore structure fishing consists of Texas Rigs 1/4-1/2 oz, Jig-n-Craws 3/8-3/4 oz, deep diving crankbaits, & big spoons.

Bet you it's 5 lures he has confidence in.

Worst thing you can do is try learning a new technique when they ain't biting.

That’s definitely true in a lot of cases, especially down where your fishing.
Try that up here offshore for Georgian Bay smallmouth though and you’ll get a good sun tan and that’s about it ?

It's better to learn a few baits very well, than have a huge box of baits you don't really understand. Plus, most bass lures are versatile, and can be fished in different ways.

Oh and always stay humble.

2 weeks ago I fished a deep clear lake with a 1 fish reputation.

I caught 8 so went back with a buddy expecting to put on a clinic......1 desperate fish.

The fish are more in control than we are.

I have a ton.  But, if I can stay on schedule, I will be the best bass fisherman in history in only 147 years.

Open mind. Let the fish tell ya what they want. And what they want may not be what you think they want.

By no means do I think I’ve mastered anything I just feel like I’m starting to make the right decisions and am learning not to force things when they are not there..

Honestly,

I normally bring 5 presentations. A few in a 2nd colour.

Its versatile and "finessey"

That's what I'm going to start doing......and can make tiny adjustments to those when needed or when things call for it

Agree. The guys that win the most tournaments around here pitch soft plastics. 100% of the time, year round. They’ve gotten really really good at It and that’s what they do.
While the rest of the field is running around thinking the bass “should be hitting chatterbaits and squarebills. Well that’s not working so let’s try a spinnerbait. Dang not today. Let’s run across the lake.  I swear It's pre-spawn and Shad spawn. This should be working!!! Let’s run across the lake again.”

Meanwhile the winner is slowly working an area all day getting big bites pitching a creature.
