basslover12345 Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 Ok, My parents said they will will pay double what I save. I was wondering if anyone knew of a Jon boat with a live well that I could use on lakes around my house. I want it to be in the 14 to 18 foot range that I can bass fish out of Quote
endless Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 You looking to only spend $600? Craiglist will be the way to only go if so. Out right brand new(in VA) I paid after all said and done $803 and some change for my tracker14 and that's just for a regular jon boat. The freight charge sucks, $68 I think I paid. I would just keep an eye out in craiglist and see what you can find. I came across some great deals in there. You might find them already decked how you want or just the boat for $100-$300 and you might just have to put some work in. My problem was when I had my money and ready to jump on a deal nothing was there which then I decided to buy new. Good luck with your search. Quote
cBooms@SML Posted February 21, 2011 Posted February 21, 2011 pelican bass raider. 'nuff said ;D Quote
Fish Chris Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 In my area (Nor Cal) if you look around a little bit, you can just about find somebody willing to "give" you a 12ft aluminum, if you will just come and unbury it from the side of their house and drag it away for them ......but as soon as you jump to 14ft, your options drop off by 90% Nice thing is, aluminum doesn't rust, and even small leaks can be sealed.... but you might run across some pretty rusted / shot out trailers ! If I were you, I'd look for a decent little 12ft giveaway, and invest a few hundred into a new, build it yourself trailer, and maybe a nice new T-motor. If you could find a 14..... or maaaybe a 16ft.... but an 18 is just way too big and cumbersome for bass fishing, and simply not needed. Don't start falling into the bigger is better trap. The only thing that's true with is "bigger fish" are better, and they couldn't care less about your boat Peace, Fish Quote
Bigs Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 Here's the best advice, save more money up. Get a nice 16 foot jon boat on craigslist that already has a trolling motor, seats, decent trailer, etc..Dont let that money burn a hole in ur pocket. Be patient, good fishing is still at least a month away anyways. Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 pelican bass raider. 'nuff said ;D I have one of these for the numerous local electric only lakes and love it. Quote
bigdog321 Posted February 22, 2011 Posted February 22, 2011 If I were you, I would check my local sports authority. I was able to get a 10' bass raider for 300.00 by talking to the manager. They had two that were being sent back to corporate because they couldn't sell them,so they let me have it for 300 when it was priced at 499.00. It never hurts to ask. Added 100.00 battery and 150.00 trolling motor and 100.00 fishfinder and I was on my way for 650.00. Good luck! Quote
bassman018 Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I would say hunt on craigslist for a 14 foot jon boat, I gues you arnt interested in a trailer so just get the boat, you can rige a large cooler up with an aerator to be a livewell and then throw a little trolling motor on that thing and you should be ready to go, goof luck to you. Red Posted February 23, 2011 Posted February 23, 2011 I have a 8' Bass Raider and I take it out on Lake Waco, which is like 8,000 acres. As long as it is not too windy you will be fine. ;D Quote

That's probably will be my route I take when the time comes! I'll never buy a 14' new again either not when there's craig list. Quote
Super User Shane J Posted February 23, 2011 Super User Posted February 23, 2011 What do you even need a live well for anyway? It's not like you're gonna tournament fish out of it. Quote
civicsurfer Posted February 27, 2011 Posted February 27, 2011 Found my 10' Pelican Bass Raider on Craigslist for $200. Then purchased a Minn Kota 45lb thrust trolling motor--$120 Enegizer deep cycle marine battery from Sam's Club--$70 Huminbird portable fish finder--$120 Total spent: $510 Quote
Global Moderator Bluebasser86 Posted February 27, 2011 Global Moderator Posted February 27, 2011 I got a 12 foot john boat off craigslist for 100 bucks. It's nice and light so I can carry it over my head no problem to where ever I want to go. You can get a 30lb thrust trolling motor for around 100 bucks and a battery from wal-mart for 70 or 80. Now you have money left over to keep the bait monkey happy! ;D Quote
tntitans21399 Posted March 6, 2011 Posted March 6, 2011 $600 can get you a good deal or a lemon. I got my boat about 3-4 years ago for $700. Its the one on my profile. It is solid and has a 55hp. It has worked out great for me. I did have to drive 7 hours to pick it up and 7 hours back. I bought mine through Ebay. The first person who won the auction didn't pay and I had already talked to the owner a couple of times before the end of auction so he emailed me when the first person didn't pay. I bought it in Jan so it was cheaper. Winter boats are cheaper as for summer is when boats are the highest price. I would try Ebay and Craigslist first. We have a local Autotrader magazine that has some boats in it that you could check out at your nearest gas station or so. Quote
