Are you a rod-aholic? Is there anyone on this forum that owns 50 or more fishing rods? If so how many do you own and do you have favorites? Also do you have some that you wished you never bought? Welcome to the 50 plus club. We salute (or pity) you. ?

Question: why is it that after submitting a question or topic on this forum it reads at the end  "sponsored by"  such and such a company? I posted this question and notice that it says sponsored by Delaware tackle company at the end. Or something like that. I am not sponsored by this company. Why does that show up? Many thanks!

In my lifetime I would of easily broken the 100 mark. I currently have about 30-40 rods on hand, but I have probably sold around 100 in my life. The ones I regret purchasing,  I sell quickly after purchase,  I often offer them in bulk,  say 5 rods for 500 but some of them were $300 brand new. I am starting to have this same problem with reels as well. It's a disease for which I don't seek any treatment for.

I envy all of you who answer this ? At the same time just thinking about owning that many makes me shudder as I realize I can’t even find the time to enjoy what I currently own which is nowhere near that amount.

No, I could never fish 50 rods, or afford 50 of the rods that I buy.

I'd rather own one high end nice rod, than half a dozen lesser rods.

Guns are like this as well, some guys will have hundreds of cheap guns, while others will have a dozen or two high end models.   Then there is the rare uber rich guy that has hundreds of expensive guns.   I imagine fishing is the same way.

I own more than fifty but I'm a multiple species angler.

While bass is normally my primary target, I enjoy chasing everything else too.

Also, I like trying new gear. To me, that's part of the enjoyment.

I agree. Trying new things be it rods, reels, lures, etc, is just part of the enjoyment. I am not snobbish towards any brand. I will try anything (not including the pocket fisherman). ?

60 +. But a few are Crappie and Catfish rigs.

Probably closer to 100! I rarely sell anything and still have old Castaway rods dating back to the 90s. I also fish many different techniques-bass, bfs, trout finesse, salt/bay and fly. I try not to keep them all in one place in case my wife starts counting! They do all get used on an annual basis though. Favorites are probably the Sarge, Laguna and Waterloo bay rods. The Shimano Expride BFS rods along with the Winston fly rods are also right up there.

I never post online because I'm not dealing with shipping rods,it's bad enough I recieve them broken/damaged when I order them. I have a few local guys who I usually contact letting them know I'm selling items and so far everytime they get sold. I'm losing money hand over fist, but I do enjoy the trying new gear more than the loss of the money, not sure how sustainable that will be moving forward, but again it's a disease I do not seek treatment for.

I know what you are saying. I have a little over 50 right now but try to keep it at 50, period. I will give some to charity to bring the number down. ? I have an Excel sheet that lists all my rods, the reels they are married to, characteristics of each rod and how many times I fished them. So, I know the ones I have fished the most and those I have fished the least. If I see some rods lagging in usage time I make a point to fish them more. But it does get stressful.

OP:  Delaware Valley Tackle sponsors this site.  Like you, I enjoy trying new gear.  It is the only thing that kept me from quitting fishing...again...the last few years.

Closing in on 100 counting casting, spinning, and fly rods.  Like Eric, I don't have time to enjoy all of them.  Like mrpao, I don't much care what species I am catching as long as I am catching.  ?

I wish I had been more like AlabamaSpothunter, and bought about 6-10 high high end rods.  Two reasons why I didn't at the time.  1.) Felt I couldn't spend that kind of money on one rod, and 2.) there are so many good ones out there for people with my (lack of) experience.

Couple I wish I hadn't purchased: 7'6" MHF Villain, 7' MHF Airrus XL (my 1st 'good' rod).  Once I had purchased  a few rods, I came to the conclusion I preferred 7' or longer casting rods.  I have a few 6'6" MHF that may never see action again.  However, I do love my Aetos 6'6" MLM.

Favorites is a tough call.  I can say the 6'10" MF Elite Tech Smallmouth, and a couple OG Tatulas make that list.  I'm hoping to add a few more to the list now that I've retired.

I was more of a reel-aholic, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I tried to even out my rods/reels.  At the same time I was fishing less.  That means I have both that I've not fished with yet.  I buy used, on sale, or closeout items.

BTW, I got back into fishing locally in March 2009.  Since then I've bought rods/reels throughout the years until the last year.  I don't sell although I have given a few away.  No.  I'm not rich.  I've worked part-time plus my regular 40-50 hour week for most of my married life (47 years).

Curious where you store them all. I have a few over 50 and find that now my garage is a holding tank for some of them. Why did you quit fishing? Was it boredom? Not catching enough? After I retired it became the thing I liked doing most. I could not stomach the thought of being stuck inside watching the View !!

I had read this earlier and thought I was close.  I was down in the shop this afternoon and counted 56.  Those are multi species and techniques.

I have 54 rods and 36ish reels.  They reside in the spare bedroom which is also my fishin' room.  30 rods on the wall, 16 on a round rack, and 8 in corners.  I inherited 2 POS's, but the rest are keepers.  Not all higher-end, but most are.  I have some lower/midrange gems that I really like the taper on for certain things.  I posted this pic recently, but here it is again.

Nice. Do you always remove your reels when storing your rods? That wall mount is nice!

Just did a quick count and got about 60. This includes Fly, musky, ultralight, as well as several antique rods from my dad and uncles (fiberglass, bamboo and steel) that will probably never see water again. I regularly use  6 or 8 of them, over a full year I might use 15 or so.

I'm right around 30, but again-multi species and ice rods really inflates that. I have 20 that are dedicated to bass.

Half of my rods are older All Stars, Fenwick and even some Lews speed sticks from the 70s/80s. If shipping rods weren't so darned expensive I'd sell several that I don't love.
