Shimano SLX

i have a few bait casting reels a few Daiwa's and a few Shimano SLX and the SLX XT model, i am liking the Shimano's bait casters, i am itchin to buy another bait caster that will an upgrade from the XT. i am thinking of the SLX DC or some reel that is moving forward and not backwards from the SLX XT model. any thoughts, 200 dollar max

If you can spend $200 get the Shimano Curado 150 MGL. Fantastic reel that reaches way above its price in my opinion. Last I checked they were right at $199.99, but I'm sure you can find some deals on them with a little bit of digging. Compared to the SLX DC i it's not even a competition, Curado MGL all the way.

I’ll second the 150mgl. I have several different Curados and SLX, DC as well in both models but my favorite of all are the 151mgl’s. Just a perfect all around reel. I do like my 71mgl just as much for finesse presentations but it’s a little higher in price.  You won’t regret getting a 150mgl. You will regret wanting to replace the rest of your reels with the 150.

This was going to be my suggestion.   I just got one a few weeks ago and they are slick!!   Got it from Japan lure shop.  
they’re around $200.   Got a Megabass crankbait as a free gift with it.   ??

The curado 150 mgl goes for $155 on AE.  Not sure it's worth waiting a month for it to arrive to save $45

so I have owned an SLX DC and a Curado DC.  I sold both a while ago.  Interestingly enough I was looking at some reels on Digitaka's website and found the Shimano SLX XT 70 DC.  It is $226 shipped via fed ex.  I wasnt a fan of the SLX DC nor the Curado DC but I am in love with this SLX XT 70 DC.  I cant put it down. It is the new DC chip so there are so many more adjustments than the previous models

Also look on YouTube.  A guy by the name "The Reel Test" does a great review on it.

I also bought a Metanium for $266 which I love but for some reason I keep grabbing that SLX DC XT 70.

I have Both SLX and Curado DC and I am using them daily, Awesome reels, But if you move your budget to $240 you can get Scorpion DDC 21 which have same DC system that we have in higher end Shimano CDs. So you paying $240 but youll get $500 plus reel technology. If I had no reels at all and I wanted to buy 10 DC reels, I would buy the scorpion 21 DC.

just do yourself a favor and save some money to get it and youll thank me ?

Everyone believes the Curado MGL out perform the SLX MGL, the only difference I can tell casting them is the Price, performance is nearly identical.

Have zero use for DC casting reels.

i agree!  I have 2 slx mgls and had 2 curado 70 k mgls.     I enjoyed the slx much more and couldn’t tell a difference with the higher priced reels.

I agree as well. I have a couple SLX MGL 71, a couple Curado 151 MGL, and a Curado 71 MGL.

 

I don't see a major difference between any of them, but haven't had any of them long enough to speak to longevity,

 

I will say the SLX MGL impressed me a lot. Figured I liked that so much that I'd REALLY like the Curado MGL, but turned out it wasn't much different

I like my SLX’s I’ve got a regular and a 150 dc. They have done everything I’ve asked of them.
 

Only thing I don’t like is the plastic worm gear which, comes on all the slx models.  However, the worm gear only real purpose is just to move the pawl back and forth so it’s not really load bearing. 

 

I need a middle geared bait caster for swim jigs and swim baits.  I’ve got 2 tatula’s and I’m kicking around getting a shimano curado to check out. I’d like to personally compare the curado vs slx vs tatula.
