I was resorting my terminal boxes last night and it hit me, I would never have thought or believed I would be rigging a bait on a 6/0 swimbait hook when I was starting my bass career.

I also never thought I would be fishing a technique called dropshotting, or fishing over twenty feet deep or slinging a crankbait that was as long as my hand.  It has occurred to me that bass fishing, unlike any other angling has evolved more and faster than any other species I can think of.  What a ride.

We have to keep evolving because bass fishing has become more popular than NFL football.

Personality it's been the opposite.

Throwing more 1/16 - 1/8 oz baits, smaller profiles, lighter line then ever before.

Never thought I'd be rigging a swimbait with a 12/0

That’s a serious hook.

For me, it’s always been that way. College football doesn’t beat bass fishing either , but it’s a lot closer!!

I have to agree with @Bird. I have gone the other way using light weight finesse baits. Now I have a lot of finesse baits. I had never used a spinning rod until 20 years ago. I took me a long time to get used to it enough to be comfortable using it.

Started my engineering career with the Mercury program, 8 years later we put a man on the moon! Now that was a wild ride.
My 1st portable sonar was a Lowrance Fish Lo K Tor in 1960 same year as the Mercury program, bass fishing has been slow and a steady evolution.

When my dad showed my how to Texas rig a Culprit ribbontail, I never would have imagined I’d end up going all the way to Mexico to chase these fish. Never thought I’d end up with bookcases full of tackle, dozens of rods and reels, more packs of soft plastics then I could use in a lifetime, a boat and fish finder. Never thought I’d set the hook in my sleep, be able to identify almost any kind of freshwater seaweed, plan trips every year around bass, or make baits in my garage, or have multiple sets of fishing clothes, or hang paintings (not even photos, but there’s lots of those too) of bass on my walls. You get the idea. I never would have guessed that simply being shown how to Texas rig a worm and catching a 10” bass at a park pond would evolve into a life long pursuit and obsession of micropterus.

Yes, yes, bass fishing has evolved and everything else hasn't...
