Craig P Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Depending on the version of IOS you have, you can touch and hold on the subject of the picture, let's say it's you holding a fish and you can lift out just what you pressed. It's a pretty neat feature. Quote
Troy85 Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 Or just take a screenshot of the photo. On the screenshot edit screen just change the marker color to black and scribble your finger across the background. That way all your buddies know you intentionally hid info from them and it makes them all the more curious. lol 2 Quote
Super User Bankc Posted March 31, 2023 Super User Posted March 31, 2023 Try taking your glasses off. That works for me! As noted, some phones have this ability programmed into them. I always do this on a computer using Photoshop, but you could use Gimp, which is free. If you don't have or want to use a computer, there are probably some apps that you can download on your phone. I don't know of any, but I have seen some sites where you can upload a photo and they'll make some edits like this for "free". I've never used one, as I've got Photoshop, so I don't know how "free" it really is. 2 Quote
Super User flyfisher Posted March 31, 2023 Super User Posted March 31, 2023 blurring a background does nothing if you still have the metadata embedded in the picture. 4 Quote

Global Moderator TnRiver46 Posted March 31, 2023 Global Moderator Posted March 31, 2023 A person chasing after your spot from the background of a photo will always be one step behind, maybe two. I wouldn’t worry bout it 3 Quote

You can copy it and then paste it anywhere, or share and save it to a file. Quick note though, this site has a size limitation on the image so the image has to be a reasonable size. 1 Quote

Big Hands Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 19 hours ago, Craig P said: Quick note though, this site has a size limitation on the image so the image has to be a reasonable size. When I email that to myself from the photos app, the size of the file shrinks way down. The one I posted above shrank to 383KB when I emailed it to myself, which is well within the size restrictions of this site. I have photoshop, so I can shrink it much further if I wanted (and I did), but I could post it easily with the file being that size. This one is 29.5KB and gmail shrank it to that size when I downloaded it from the email I sent to myself. And, no meta data is passed on when you use this method. The only thing it shows in the file properties is that the 'file' was created today, and the photo is actually from October 2022. If you are so inclined to use it, Microsoft PowerPoint also has a very powerful and fairly easy to use background removal tool for images. By importing a 1.92 MB file into PowerPoint, removing the background, and then right clicking it and choosing 'save as picture', the file size shrank down to 391KB. 1 Quote
Super User geo g Posted April 2, 2023 Super User Posted April 2, 2023 An easy solution is to just don’t use the shoreline in the pick. Quick an easy, I do this all the time. 3 Quote

I do the same thing. I've been doing a lot of Crappie fishing this winter/spring and they can be on very distinct spots and often recognizable spots (like bridges). I always just turn around so that the background is just water or homes very far away on the opposite bank. I don't worry too much about location, but with social media and a fair percentage of anglers being new/inexperienced, they DO try to find your spots and take advantage. Quote

Bass Rutten Posted April 3, 2023 Posted April 3, 2023 Sweet, that is awesome! As a semi-techy years long iphone user I had no clue this was a feature. A phone has a GPS track on you. Most phones have location services enabled for photos. It will put the information in the meta data for the phone (EXIF data) if it is enabled. However- if the photo is altered in another program, that program might strip EXIF data from photos. The app I use to resize on my ipad doesn't carry over EXIF data I don't think. Not that I care about others seeing that data, I just think its a paid feature for that app and I'm cheap.
