Dirtyeggroll Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 For the last 5 years either the last week of March or first week of April have produced a fat mamahachi for me. Life’s other responsibilities have me too busy to get out this year it seems for the next couple weeks, so not sure the streak will continue. GET OUT AND FISH NOW if you can. 22 Quote

Fishin Dad Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 I love spring fishing. Size and numbers are usually solid. The ice is out just 30 minutes south of me. The boat is coming out of storage next week!! 2 Quote

It is a horrible separation anxiety for us northern fellas. I am always jealous of the southern boys year round fishing and big bass. I am missing the old gal. She will be in the garage next week so my family can have dad separation anxiety. I will be living in the garage getting her ready. 3 1 Quote

Learned that stat today, and it's an important one in my book. Illustrates that guys are just as hardcore, and capable of Bass angler as any other region in the country including down here in the SE where it really all started. You guys seem to make the most of it up there, I guess that's what I'm saying. 4 minutes ago, DitchPanda said: Dude, back off or we will have a problem You're outnumbered here currently amigo, put the Winter down, and slowly back away ? 3 2 Quote

When we are able to get on the water, fishing is amazing here. We have so many lakes that our pressure is very low, we have incredible numbers of fish, but our size is smaller because of the shortened growing season. Our tournaments typically take between 16-22 lbs. to win and some take more. 50+ fish days happen many times per season. I feel very fortunate………from May-October!! ??. I will be moving that way in a few years to borrow your January, February, and March weather!! The snake thread the other day threatened that thought for a minute however. ?? 1 1 Quote
Super User A-Jay Posted March 31, 2023 Super User Posted March 31, 2023 I agree with you @Dirtyeggroll Early season is a time for trophies. I've got just a bit more time to wait as the hard water slowly melts away. However, as soon as the opportunity presents itself, a trophy hunting I will go. My rig is already locked and loaded. ? I will be living in the garage getting her ready. I used to store my boat off-site in the winter too for years. Drop it off in late October and pick it up in April sometime. Two winters ago I was able to store it at my parent's garage an hour away, and this winter its been in my own garage because I moved last May and it has a 3-car stall. So at least now I don't have separation anxiety. I'd rather store it off site at an indoor, secured facility than park it outside on my own property here in the winter. My boat is way too nice to sit outside here, and I want to keep it that way. And yes, once the open water season legally opens here, its usually pretty good. Some lakes have immense bass fishing pressure though. Bass leagues and HS events and weekend tournaments have gained a lot of steam the past decade on some of the lakes that are able to handle it, which is why I generally focus my efforts on smaller, less pressured lakes. 2 Quote

Texas Flood Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 It'll be a high of 75 today and then drop down to 30 with a chance of snow tomorrow. I'll still go out this weekend. Quote

After a metric ton of research and measuring for fitment, I had a sit myself down and have an honest discussion. End result was, what I have works well and more importantly suits my style. What I was considering changing was going to cost Big $$$$ and in my mind I couldn't justify whatever increase in big bass catches I might realize. So the Pro-V Bass is still the same as it ever was - coming on season 7. I will say that if my Fortrex totally dies, I'd try to go the Ultrex route. A-Jay 5 Quote

Super User the reel ess Posted March 31, 2023 Super User Posted March 31, 2023 I fish in winter. I got one 4.75 about a week ago. Went yesterday afternoon and only 4 dinks. I had to resort to the weightless Speed Worm to get those. Talked to my buddy and he only got one crappie. There were beds, but no fish on them. Nights have been cold and I don't believe the crappie have spawned yet. Quote

Yup ~ And considering current inventory deals, we may need to order one now, knowing we may need it two years down the road. Just to have it on hand. Did I just say that out loud ? Might actually be a good idea now that I think about it. Oh Man . . . A-Jay 1 1 Quote

Super User WIGuide Posted March 31, 2023 Super User Posted March 31, 2023 I've caught some good ones early the past few years. It's been a bit of a new experience for me since Wisconsin used to be a completely closed season until the first weekend in May, with the exception of a few waterways. I think this is the 3rd season now that we can actually target bass, before the catch and keep season begins so in a way it's kind of cool that this far into the game there's something completely new to figure out. Spring is taking forever this year though, and I've been just waiting to get my boat out of storage, I've got a laundry list of things I want to do to it, but even if I had it at home, it's been too cold and crappy to work on it anyway. Fingers crossed the weather breaks soon. 2 Quote
