If you leave the CO2 cylinder at home, I'd think so

Wait....it depends on which TSA page you look at.   One page says only empty cylinders.  Another says life vest with up to 2 CO2 cartridges OK.

If you call them cartridges,  not cylinders, you may be OK.

Though the life vest page does say that the TSA agent might just take it anyway...lol

Just wear it on the plane.

Tell them you can't swim.

Yeah, what the law states and what the TSA agent does don't always neatly line up.  I'd say just bring the PFD with the CO2 cartridge not installed, that way if they do have a problem, they'll probably just take away the cartridge.

But it might be best to just buy a CO2 cartridge once you get to your destination.  Unless you don't think you'll be able to find any where you're going.  If that's the case, then you could ship the cartridges to your hotel separately.  Just call the hotel first and ask them how best to go about doing that.  I've had to ship many things to and from my hotel while on vacation in the past, either because I couldn't get it on the plane, or I didn't trust the airline with it.

If his plane ditches in the water, will someone from the hotel bring him a cartridge to the crash site ??

LOL......

Overseas means you'll be going through customs, not good.

We just got home this past Sunday from St. Lucia and they confiscated a really nice bottle of Rum and the wife's bottle of perfume.

You may or may not be ok, it's hit or miss depending on the employees interest in C02 cylinders.......in my case, they like Rum.

The TSA is not the people you want to be talking to.  You need to contact the airline.  What the TSA allows and what the airline allows onboard can and often are, different.  The airline is often stricter than the TSA guidelines when it comes to "dangerous" items.  This is particularly true if you are travelling overseas.

No.

You can take the unarmed jacket but any type of gas cylinder in not allowed. Considered an explosive device.

Take the PFD and buy the cylinder when you get to your destination.

If you’re worried about not finding one I imagine you could order one and have it shipped to your destination.
