Hey, Everyone.

Our family just moved to Florida last summer from Colorado.  We definitely had the trout of Colorado figured out... caught lots of them.  After moving to Ocala last June, we're trying to figure out the Bass.  It's a steep learning curve, for sure.  Really just trying to get familiar with Bass fishing.  My oldest son is in college, but we still try to get out on the water as often as possible.  We plan to purchase a starter boat in the future, but for now we're stuck fishing from the bank.  Bank fishing from Florida is a little tough.  There are lakes, both large and small, everywhere.  But most of them require a boat to access.  So we try to get out and look at google maps as often as possible and fish ponds that we can.  We've found a few, but I know there are a lot more out there.  Anyway, looking forward to learning more from all of you and hopefully developing some friendships with a common interest of catching more Bass.

Welcome to the forums. The Ocala forest is full of small lakes and ponds, also the ocklawaha river. You’d need a small boat or kayak on most of them, but many of them have good bass fishing.

Welcome.  When I was a kid growing up in Florida, bank fishing was what we did.  Opportunities were everywhere.  When they drained the Everglades, it created thousands of miles of canals, housing density was low and you could fish just about everywhere.  Over the past 60 years, the majority of waterfront lots have been built on, which cut off access.   Even our small lakes have multi million dollar homes sitting on them.   If you want to fish from shore, you may find better opportunities in salt water where fishing off piers, seawalls and the beach can be productive.  The Harris Chain has a number of piers where you can fish.  Downtown Eustis has a waterfront park where fishing is allowed. Some nice bass have been caught off that seawall.  To fish most bass in Florida, you need a boat of some kind.  You can buy a basic used Kayak or Jon boat for under $1,000.  You don't need a fancy boat to catch bass, but you need to get off the bank.
