Super User ChrisD46 Posted March 25, 2023 Super User Posted March 25, 2023 My spinning combos stop at Medium / Fast before I switch over to a bait casting set up ... Anyone use a MH / F spinning rod set up with a 3000 / 4000 size reel for heavier bass tactics ? Quote
Super User MN Fisher Posted March 25, 2023 Super User Posted March 25, 2023 Since I'm still pants at skipping with casting gear, I have a MH/F spinning rig to skip heavier lures like jigs with...though it has a 2500 reel on it with 20# braid. 2 Quote
Super User Mobasser Posted March 25, 2023 Super User Posted March 25, 2023 I have one. Mine has a 2500 reel on it. You can use it for lots of things. 2 Quote
Delaware Valley Tackle Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Skipping and super windy days when casting is too much grief. 2 Quote
msgf91 Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 I use mine for big size drop shot. That way I can have a finesse drop shot on my lighter rod and finesse j hook on the MH for T-rigged trick worm size baits. Quote
Cdn Angler Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 Before learning how to use a baitcaster I used a M/H spinning rod, 4000 series Shimano Nasci and 20-30 lb test braid to do all sorts of things (most anything you'd do on a MH baitcaster). I still like fishing light texas rigs and light swimbaits around grass using this setup as I can cast them further. There's no real problem using a spinning reel like this using braid. I can cast as well with a spinning rod. Provided you don't start chucking huge lures (like 1oz) and don't mind using straight braid. Quote

Pretty much exactly what I use too, but I use heavier braid, and all I skip is weightless plastics. I've gotten to be pretty darn good with the setup the past 3 seasons too, as one of the lakes I routinely fish in midsummer has a consistent dock bite. 1 Quote
Hulkster Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I have a 7 foot MH Loomis GL3 that I use for salmon pier fishing. its rated for up to 3/4 oz lures and I use a 4000 size shimano spinning reel with 12 pound test sufix Siege. it works very well. Quote
Super User FishTank Posted March 27, 2023 Super User Posted March 27, 2023 I have been using a G. Loomis 803S NRX and a Shimano Vanquish 3000 for most of my mid range soft plastic, especially wacky rigged senkos. It works perfectly for just about any situation. 1 Quote
tander Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 I use the MH Daiwa Tatula Elite Randy Howell rod for wacky worm fishing and also shaky heads. Quote
thunderblack Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 I fished a MH avid spinner for a while and loved it. I used it for lipless cranks and jerkbaits. Sometime bumping up to a MH is nice since some brands carry medium spinning rods that cant handle much over 3/8-1/2 oz. Quote
BigAngus752 Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 Never without it. Much prefer the feel of the spinning rig for Texas rigs. I have a MH/F Cashion Icon with a Daiwa Fuego LT 2500D-HX. I will never get rid of that combo. Tons of bass dragging a Trick Worm or lizard around. KP Duty Posted March 28, 2023 Posted March 28, 2023 I agree with big anus above...something about fishing a t-rig on a spinning rod that just works. 1 Quote

PressuredFishing Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 I use up to a 6000 and extra heavy for big swimbaits and inshore fishing, definitely a little overkill and would probably of been happier with a 4 or 5k, for inshore sw, but it performs well. I got it for surf fishing because there is no reason to be accurate and fight 20-mph winds blowing in your face against a wide open ocean. I personally see no point at times to fish a baitcaster when fishing open water. Quote
optimator Posted March 29, 2023 Posted March 29, 2023 I do with a 3000. I mostly use it at night so I don't backlash my BC's. Quote
