I keep a log of the "big bass" I catch, anything over 3 lb. In 2021 I caught 18 over that mark. In 2022, only caught 3, one of which was 8 lb. Thursday, I went a coupe of hours without a bite, struggling with a pretty stiff breeze. Then I cast my black/blue lizard on a 1/2 oz. swing head jig to some stumps on the bottom about 12' deep. I pumped the rod a couple of times and suddenly there was no weight on the line. Set the hook and was rewarded with this 4 lb. 12 oz. female loaded up with eggs. I'm hoping this is a sign the big bites will be more regular this year.

Nicely Done ~

And thank you for using the "Fishing Reports" forum for your report,

rather than the "Latest Catch Picture Thread"

which has been a going trend for a while now.

Either way, Congrats

You know, I posted all my reports here when I first started and rarely got any feedback whatsoever. I then realized much more people were participating in the latest catch thread so I’ve been posting it all there ever since

Nice fish. Hoping like you said this is a sign of things to come. I went thru the same scenario the past few years...in 21 I only got 1 bass over 5, last year I caught a 5 1\2 in March on my 2nd trip of the year. Ended with 3 over 5 last year and 1 that was just shy.

It didn't even occur to me to put it in that thread, though I have before.

I'm as impressed by paddling against the wind for three hours as I am by the bass.

@the reel ess, I've paddled again' the wind for hours too. Game knows game. In a perfect world, your fish's adjusted weight would be 9 pounds, 8 ounces. Into the wind doubles the weight. Fighting a fish in rapids triples it. Fighting a velociraptor while fighting a fish while going over a waterfall in a kayak octuples the weight.

Yeah, those who think kayak fishing is not exercise didn't do it in March. I'm sure I got my cardio and them some in that day. But as my dad would say It beez like that in spring. We used to crappie fish on Lake Wateree, SC a lot and the spawn usually coincided with lake wind advisories. There was a spot on the lake with no houses and a tiny cove with a sandbar almost all the way across it, leaving just a small mouth. We walked in to fish there to get away from howling winds and filled the bucket. It was awesome. Some of my best days were spent there with my dad and his fishing buddy.
