stk44 Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 Hi all, I have an issue with my curado I reel where at the end of a reel turn there is a grinding/clicking type noise. With the reel engaged I can take my thumb and push the spool forwards and backwards. If I pull line, the drag slips even with the drag locked down. It is 1000% not a line slip issue. This started right after I did a reel deep clean , but I’ve taken this reel apart dozens of times and I don’t think I messed that up. My first attempt to resolve the issue was a new anti reverse bearing as I thought that was the source of the grinding and the spool slipping. That is in the reel now and that didn’t work. I have also replaced the metal drag washers and added a few additional parts that did not solve the issue. I honestly have no idea what the issue is, and I’m losing faith in my troubleshooting skills. Does anyone have an idea of what I should look for and/or what part to replace. p.s. One thing I forgot to mention is that i noticed on the reel schematic there is a tiny metal washer that typically goes on the back end of the worm gear tooth that is not there. I almost remember this version not having one but I know my curado 70 and other reels have one. I don’t think that’s the issue but thought I’d mention it. thanks is advance , steve Quote
Super User MickD Posted March 24, 2023 Super User Posted March 24, 2023 I have no idea of how to fix this issue. But I think I know how to prevent it. Don't tear your reels apart past the first "no-tool" level of disassembly. The only reason to do more is if the reel has been dunked in the lake, and then, leave it to an expert servicer. I have dozens of reels, cast, spin, fly, and they just keep on working year after year with just a "first level" disassembly, clean, and lube. I spend a lot more time fishing than I do in figuring out how to put it back together correctly. Quote

Solution The Bassman Posted March 24, 2023 Solution Posted March 24, 2023 Check your pinion yoke to see if you put it on upside down. 2 Quote

Thanks so much. I guess I have $20 worth of spare parts I didn’t need lol. Seriously though, thank you so much. It really looked like it should’ve been the way that I had it though lol. thanks! The Bassman Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 The only way I knew this is that I've done it, too. lol 1 Quote

Super User J._Bricker Posted March 25, 2023 Super User Posted March 25, 2023 Great little reels @stk44. Any chance did the $20 of spare parts include Carbontex? Quote
stk44 Posted March 25, 2023 Author Posted March 25, 2023 @J._Bricker Definitely a great reel. I did not get any Carbontex washers. After I found it wasn’t the ARB, I was thinking it was a spool tension issue. I inspected the the carbon washers and added some grease though so 1 Quote
