kevinmyfsu Posted March 24, 2023 Posted March 24, 2023 I live in North FL in the Big Bend area, and conditions here are really nice - 79 and sunny with about 10-12mph wind. We've had a few cold snaps, but it's already quite warm. Fish are on and off beds and all over the place. My most consistent producer are 3.3 keitechs on ball heads, but I'm seeing success with drop shots around structure and glide baits on beds and off. I get a lot of followers on the bigger glides, but the one that gets bit the most is the little 5 inch CL8 glider. I also throw Texas rigs and swim jigs and chatterbaits, but they aren't really doing much for me right now. I'm really curious what people in different parts of the country (and the Southeast!) are getting bit on. 1 Quote

Pat Brown Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 Swim Jig and Jerk Bait are making fish bite! Spinnerbait and lipless are close second. Soft plastics are about to be huge in the next week or two ? Quote

When I fish on top it’s weightless of course rigged with the cut pointed down. This gives the maximum displacement and action when skimming. When swimming I use a 5/0 Trokar hook with either an unpegged or pegged 3/16 weight on either 20# Shooter or 40# braid with the point rigged sideways. I swim it with a steady retrieve killing it periodically and dropping down every hole or open area in and through submerged (ideally) or topped out grass. The thing about the Magnum Speed Worm rigged this way the action is not just from the tail. The bottom 1/3 will sashay back and forth while the tail is doin it’s thing. To me that’s what makes it the most deadly of all cut tail swim worms. Mike 2 2 Quote

Super User Jar11591 Posted March 25, 2023 Super User Posted March 25, 2023 Still mostly iced in here, but if I pick up where I left off last year, the spinnerbait has been the hot bait for me for size and numbers. Quote

You can't rig one wrong. I read @Mike L reply. Good stuff. I like to rig it with a 1/16 oz head. That way you can either swim it slowly or skim it along the surface with a fast retrieve. This is an excellent bait for hot summer when they don't seem to react to any of the old standbys. 2 Quote
Alex from GA Posted March 25, 2023 Posted March 25, 2023 I usually winter where you're fishing and a buzzbait is one of my favorites. Where I am now, N GA, it's mostly worms, jigs and spinnerbaits. Quote
Kelvin Posted March 26, 2023 Posted March 26, 2023 Jerkbait, twitch bait, shallow and mid depth. Went out the morning in a local canal behind my home and caught a hybrid bass and a peacock within 20 minutes. 1 Quote
Functional Posted March 27, 2023 Posted March 27, 2023 NC. Water temps have been anywhere from 52-58 depending where on the lake and the on/off cold snaps weve been having. Chatterbait bite has been great and a light Trig with a sweet beaver. Both fished where new grass is growing and laydowns in 2-5' of water, mostly 1/2 way to the back of a pocket/cove. Havent really been able to fire them up with anything else yet. 1 Quote
