8lb sniper for bottom contact

5lb sniper for DS

8lb pline cxx for beater rigs

8lb big game for catfish and other live bait rigs

8 and 6lb basix to experiment with as new beater rig line

There's so many nice fc lines I've just been trying them out so I'm currently with sniper

I use lighter lines now mostly after years of using heavy line with max drag and just winching the fish in. Then I accidentally hooked a bull red while flounder fishing and panicked. I had no experience adjusting drag because I never needed to. Even striper fishing we used 20 lb mono and would winch them in. I broke off on the bull red and it haunted me. So I started fishing finesse and lighter lines to get practice playing fish. I even took up carp fishing for the practice. Probably caught bigger carp than the red lol

A Redfish's gill plate will cut even braid.

That was another thing I worked on was line to line knots. I didn't have a bite leader so as soon as it started running under the pier I clamped down on the drag and tried to winch it out since I knew it was over either way once it went under the pier. When I lifted up the line cut clean.

12 pound mono for everything except my heavy stuff rod.  I've got (gasp) braid on it.  I reluctantly put braid on it after "launching" an alabama rig while casting into the wind.   No weeds or pads in the lakes I fish.   I do OK with mono around lay downs, stumps, docks and rocks.  I use cheap mono (Trilene XL) and change it at least once a month.   I normally get to fish 2 days a week.  No toothy critters where I fish beyond a few longnose gar and a bowfin or 2.  Never been bothered by them.  I did catch a 53 pound flathead cat last year, as well as a 13 1/2 pound blue cat a few weeks ago.  I had my hands full with them, especially the 53 pounder.   I'll jinx myself saying this, but I can't remember the last time a fish broke my line.   I had a 4 pound 15 ounce spotted bass get tangled up in a falling down dock in December.  I managed to "lead" it out using patience, boat positioning, and luck.  (probably mostly luck LOL)

Greetings!

My rudimentary recreational angling solution to complicated angling here in Southern AZ is simply using four pound mono for multi-species catching with ultra lite rigs. The variation is the choice between two budget friendly mono choices in either the Wally World bulk low cost Zebco mono in 4 lb or the BassPro CrappieMaxx in 4 lb mono. Both are exceptional value with reasonable performance. Both have demonstrated good performance on trout, catfish, large mouth bass, and various sunfish.

I've used both lines successfully with small metal spoons, curly tailed grubs on jig heads, weighted / weightless worms, and small jerk baits. Yeah, nothing fancy or technique specific. It does produce results which is preferable.

There have been some interesting responses to read through. I hope you're having as much fun reading as I have. Learning lots from the BR membership. Thanks to all for sharing. Cheers!

Treble hook topwaters, jerkbaits, squarebills, and lipless crankbaits = 14lb or 16lb Sunline supernatural monofilament it’s line diameter is very small per lb test so you can get away with higher poundage

wacky rigs, Texas rigs, jigs, Spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, soft plastic Swimbaits = 15lb Seaguar invisx

Frogs, Buzzbaits, plastics and jigs around heavy cover = 50lb Seaguar smackdown

worth noting I’m fishing in Canada for smallmouth almost exclusively and I only own baitcasters

Mono para todo, excepto que uso una trenza en mi extravagante configuración de plataforma en una caña giratoria

Hello friend... I'm thinking of changing to mono (sunline super natural 14lb) which you usually use. Thanks

Techniques i'm really interested in:

Crank-shallow, mid, deep

lipless

swimjig

chatterbait

bottom contact (fb jig, trw, wobblehead..)

spinnerbait

a-rig

Cranking- 10-12 lb red label fc (15lb for squarebills)

chatterbait/swimjig: 50lb 832 braid OR 15-20lb fc (currently using 17lb pline)

bottom contact: 20lb sniper or invisx

spinnerbait: 17lb armilo defier

a-rig: 20-25lb armilo defier

I can’t wrap my head around using light line. Even my drop shot rig is 12fc leader.
I know I never have to worry about my line when I hook a fish.

I use sufix 832, sufix advanced mono and fluorocarbon, and seaguar invisix and seaguar blue label.

The blue label is only on a couple moving lure setups that northern pike love to aggressively attack  so I don't constantly get sheered off.
