Ok...so I somehow find something different to obsess about each week when it comes to fishing lol.  Amazing how that is!  Just when you find the answer to what. you were looking for...something else pops into your head and leads you down another rabbit hole!

So this weeks question is...what line do you use for each technique?  I've been using powerpro braid to leader for a few years now but didn't label very well, and so not sure on some reels what line is on there.  And have found that I enjoy straight fluoro for some techniques.  I ordered a few more reels...and it got me thinking that I'm going to re-do all of my reels with new line and get a good system going.

So do you use braid/fluoro/mono for a particular technique?  Mind sharing which brand and strength and extra bonus points if you share why.  I was trying to read all the posts I could and there's just soo much contradictory stuff out there. As always, I'm not looking for anyone to tell me what I should use...just want to hear what you have chosen for your system.

Cool.  Anyone using any less common stuff (eg Sunline shooter Defier, 832/ 831 braid, suffix advance...)?

Techniques i'm really interested in:

Crank-shallow, mid, deep

lipless

swimjig

chatterbait

bottom contact (fb jig, trw, wobblehead..)

spinnerbait

a-rig

Some really swear braid makes a ton of noise coming through the water...but also a ton of people with great results cranking straight braid. Curious if # carrier/strand matters...

Braid for everything.  No leader unless throwing a drop shot, Ned rig or C-rig.

Typically Sufix 832 but sometimes Power Pro.  Usually 30-50#, with 30# being for most things that don't require a heavy rod.

The reason why?  Because braid lasts forever and stays limp.  I don't fish clear water and I don't need line stretch, the way I fish.  Also, we don't have toothy fish here or shells to deal with.

But I'll be honest.  I could go all mono or all copoly and be just as happy.  I'd just have to replace my line more often because it doesn't last as long as braid.  Anything but all fluoro, which I hate because of the line memory.  But even then, if someone gave me a lifetime's supply of fluoro, I'd make even that work.  Try not to get too hung up on specific lines for specific techniques.  It's all personal preference.  And some people prefer switching up lines for different presentations, and some people prefer keeping everything using the same line.  Just pick something and go with it.  And if you ever run into a reason why you'd like to change, make that change.

10lb braid for most things 17-20 for T rigged stuff.

I just switched up to 8lb fluorocarbon for drop shot. I do not know how I will like it though.

Braid to fluoro for basically everything, varying fluoro size for what im doing(mono for topwater). My 2 spinning reels are straight 6# fluoro. Occasionally straight braid for flipping.

Straight 20# PP braid on all casting.

15# PP braid to 8# Sunline Snyper on spinning.

Is that a rabbit hole I see? Better check it out...

I run braid to leader on everything but there are so many different leaders to use for the situation. On my spinning reels I run 10 to 15# braid main line. On my bait casters I run 10# to 80# braid - mostly JBraid, smackdown and suffix 131; A few have maxquatro and spiderwire and all my swimbait rods have 50# silent flip.

For leaders -

Dropshot, hairjigs and Ned's- 5 or 6# fluoro.

Jerkbaits- 8 or 10# fluoro

Crankbaits - 8-10# fluoro or copoly maybe the occasional 12# fluoro

Spinnerbaits and chatterbaits - 10 - 12# copoly.

Wakebaits(swimbaits up to 6oz) - 17lb P-Line Topwater

Gliders(swimbaits up to 6oz) - depending on the sink rate I want 15# -17# fluoro or 15-17# copoly.

Swimbaits 3/4 oz to 1.5 oz - 12# fluoro or copoly depending on sink rate desired

Texas rigs and jigs 1/2 or less - 10-15# fluoro

Texas rigs and jigs over 1/2oz - 15#-20# fluoro

Frogs- 50-80# straight braid

Flipping sparse cover - 17# copoly

Small topwaters - 10# copoly

Buzzbaits- 12# copoly

Thank you!! Couple questions. On the braid, are you using the dark green or a more visible high res color?  And second, why copoly over mono? and what copoly and fluoro you using?  thanks

Copoly on all casting outfits, they’re all multipurpose and I want the option to use topwater on all of them, a mix of yo-zuri hybrid and sufix advance. YGK g-soul braid (hi-vis) to yz hybrid leader for spinning

I use 12# Sufix Siege for cranbaits, spinnerbaits, and topwaters. I use 12# Suline Super Florocarbon for Texas rigs and jigs. I have one setup with 50# Sufix 832 braid on it for frog fishing. I think I have used it once in two years. Spinning setups get 8# Sufix Siege for finesse fishing.

I like mono for everything bass fishing, except as mentioned above for frogs.

Except izorline, it stretches like a absolute rubber band, expecially first string. it has a cultish following here on the west coast.

I use a lot of the high vis for lighter line techniques so you can see the line move. For any moving baits and heavy bottom contact stuff I use dark green or black if it is an option.

Ever since I used copoly I have really liked it. I am a big Gamma fan - I can't remember the line failing me. Copoly is thinner for the strength and I like to push the limits on line diameter.

I finesse fish 98% of the time. It's always #8-#10 Power Pro Super Slick to a copoly (yo-zuri typically)  #4-#8 leader. If I'm throwing heavy I just use #15 Big Game and Froggin (which is only when I get that rare itch), I use #50 Power Pro. I'd rather catch numbers with the occasional big girl than throw big baits looking for big fish only. I did the big baits for big fish thing for a few season early on but realized quickly I'm just happy catching em and when a big one hits, fighting em out on a long spinning rod letting the drag tick. To each their own!
