I once read that soft plastics can degrade fishing line if stored in the same container, is this true? I'm having a hard time finding any articles that discuss this, so I'm curious to hear what you guys have to say.

That's interesting...I never thought about that. I know soft plastics will melt certain other plastics. You could run your own experiment and see.

I wouldn't think so.  I imagine that if it did, we'd hear more people talking about it.  But all fishing lines are made of plastic, so I wouldn't be completely shocked if there was some truth to it.

I'm sure Elaztech could eat fishing line if long term contact was afforded.

Heck, I have Plano boxes that look like they have cellulite from the stuff.

Leave line in there original container to eliminate contact and you'll be fine and I highly recommend leaving Elaztech in there original bags with only other Elaztech.

I have a Plano edge box. Just a standard 3600 utility box. I have 2 little pieces of Elaztech in there, a TRD and a finesse shadZ. Those tiny baits warped both dividers they were touching.

Yeah, but those Plano boxes are made of polypropylene.  Mono is made of nylon, braid is made of polyethylene, and fluorocarbon is made of... who knows what.

Different plastics will react differently to different chemicals.

I’ve never stored line and lures where they could touch each other. No way I could even know what might happen

I would not be surprised if some combinations of plastics react with each other.

This past Monday I grabbed a 3700 box to go fishing. There was a glide bait in the box. I think it was a Savage Gear but I'm not sure. I usually pin the hooks with a small rubber band. The rubber band on this lure was melted and stuck to the lure. I do not remember any other lures or plastics being in the same section but there could have been during previous trips. The same type of rubber band is used on all lures and that was the only one that melted.

T rigging the line is inside the plastic.  I’ve never had a problem with it.
