My order from Baits.com is to be here on Monday as well.

I though wasnt all that patient and looked at other places and found a site that has them still in stock. Placed order Thursday the 6th at 11:18 and they sent me notice that packaged shipped 11:51am and will be here Saturday the 8th. So total of 13 packs

I did the exact same thing. I’m going to be well stocked in these.

From reading y'alls posts, I went to check my order status. Mine are to arrive Monday as well. I was tempted to buy some in stock locally but decided to wait.

So I took one pack to work and weighed them on our very accurate precise scale and the lightest was 16.731g the heaviest 17.294g.  5/8oz=17.718g

The Gamakatsu 4/0 Deep Throat Wide Gap fits the bait nicely thats what Ill use hook wise.

serious question, between this, the IKA, and the other similarly shaped JDM baits now available in the US, why's everyone going nuts for them? feel like I'm missing out on something, but I can't figure out what it might be

The fat ika and the cover scat don’t do It for me. What other baits are there so I can check them out?

If you want my personal opinion, it’s because the bait is a proven catcher in Japan and has never been offered here in the states.  We never know what shape plastic is going to trigger bass and it’s evidenced by a lot of offerings out on the market.  Take the Senko for example…..doesn’t look like really anything and catches the snot out of them.  This new bait doesn’t look like anything and has been catching the snot out of them in Japan.  It’s an obscure shape that for whatever reason has proven to work.

I love senko fishing and tried the yum dingers and KVD Ochos and they just don’t catch them the same for me as the GY. So I have a ton of confidence in the senko.
Therefore, even though I haven’t thrown the tanuki yet, I have a lot of confidence in them already.
Just my thought. I could get out there and they stink lol.

Got it. Implies that Deps and Fish Arrow have virtually no following in the US outside some enthusiasts.  Makes sense, just felt weird since there have been videos out and posts here.
The combination of “it doesn’t look like much” and “I don’t know that brand” made a big opportunity for Yamamoto.

I think name recognition is a big part of it but also price. The Yamamoto's aren't cheap but the JDM baits are $10+ a bag and you only get 5 or 6 baits for the big sizes. People who are aware of the 2 JDM baits but scared off by the price and maybe not knowing the brands feel like they are getting more for their money with a trusted brand.  Plus, the shape of the Yama bait looks slightly more like something a fish might eat, it kind of has a tail. lol

I read an article years ago that claimed Gary Yamamoto was inspired by the shape of a Bic pen when he designed the Senko....who knows, it could be true.

My tanukies finally came in and I must say by the looks of them they will catch fish. All I need is gp blue fleck and black with blue fleck. A 4\0 ewg looks about right. We will give these a go very shortly. Fat ikas have done nothing for me while the senko is still king.

I threw mine around in the pool a bit tonight and can’t believe a fish would eat  these. No action. Just a hunk of plastic sinking.

I picked some up and used them today. I couldn't get a bass to bite it but I did have about a 3lb crappie inhale it. I wish I would have taken a picture of it. It was super windy and pouring down rain when I caught it. It was about 16-17 inches in length and was as fat as they come. This is a new personal best for me when it comes to crappie. I actually have never seen one that big before either.

I will continue to use this bait but hopefully under better conditions.

I fished the black / blue and GP this week and caught a few fish on

both colors

- and they wouldn’t bite anything else I threw

so far - way better luck than the cover scat

retrieve was slow with twitches - I was moving it when they hit - it wasn’t sitting on the bottom or sinking

Hopefully now that the rush is over, I’m going to order a bunch to take to Michigan the end of next month.  Bedding smallmouth will grab a Senko by the tail to move it off the bed.  With a little nose weight and the short length, these just may be the ticked for blind casting and plucking them off the beds.

Dense short/fat plastics like the ika and scat, definitely get big bites and work in clear water, high sun, calmer, high pressure situations. Sure other plastics like a senko and various baits without secondary appendages will probably get the job done in these situations, but imo experience scats/ikas get bigger bites and cast a mile in those situations. Think the fishing industry understands that a huge percentage of fishermen are bank anglers, looking to cast as far as possible in certain scenarios. The industry biz side probably recognizes that bank anglers also don't have to think about boat equipment/boat maintenance, can allocate more thought/time/money into overthinking and how they attack bank fishing. I bank fish 1/2 the time and rent boats 1/2 the time. Could be all just opinion of myself and ignorance. I've got 4 different colors of scat's, ika's, tanuki's, shizumi mushi's. Ssshhh......I think my waters are safe from more mushi's.

I’ve found good success with the Owner Beast twist lock - 4/0

a regular EWG works but it tears em up pretty quick - with the twist you can get 5-6 fish on a single Yama-Dookie

And with that, we have the best name ever for this bait. ?

I have some 4/0 and 5/0 twist locks for toads I’ll try. Not beast hooks though.

Upgrade the spring keeper to an Owner TwistLock CPS Large. They extend the life of Fat IKAs way beyond what the standard size is capable of.

How are you choosing between the various flavors?

Stay tuned, I’ve known Kim Striker from the tv show “Hook n Look” for years and he contacted me and wants to do some underwater filming on the new Yamatanuki when we make our annual trip to Lake St Clair at the end of next month.  Strike and bite video.  He also is on Yamamoto’s pro staff. Should be interesting.  I’ll keep you all posted.

When the Senko was introduced way back when, my buddy showed them to me.  My optimism level was about a 2 out of 100.  Then he fished with me and proved the magic of that bait.  I won’t make that mistake again.
