Got a line question...what line do you crank with?

Yeh mono definitely a good possibility. That much stretch drives me nuts tho…fluoro has a little stretch which I like and have gotten use to. Is there a copoly that floats?

Yeah, given your situation, that’s about it ? 

Pick one and go with it. If you don’t like it, try one of the other options. You only have 3 - should be easy to test them all if you wanted…or add a 4th option and buy another outfit so you can have a cranking and a topwater setup with different line types 

 

For the record, I’d go A.) straight copoly or mono to start ?

Use Sufix advance mono it has half the stretch of regular mono. I tested it.its true.Flouro stretches just as much as mono and does not recover when stretched. It doesn't stretch much until you really pull on it but it does stretch!!!

12 lb. Berkley 100% for squarebills and other smaller crankbaits. I use the fluoro for the abrasion resistance

 

12 lb. Berkley Big Game for mid depth 8-12 ish depth range crankbaits, oversized square bills, and lipless crankbaits in relatively open water. I only use mono here because currently this rod doubles as my topwater stick and fluoro wouldn't work

 

12 lb. Berkley 100% for 12'+ crankbaits, lipless crankbaits, and chatterbaits. Again the main reason is the abrasion resistance as well as the line will help the bait run slightly deeper.

We generally have tied 12 lb Invisix and really have no reason to switch but I rigged a new rod for deep cranking with 20lb braid, no leader. Wanted to try something different with this rod. We'll see how it goes.

Good luck getting those cranks deep with line that wants to float...

You can actually get crankbaits deeper with 20# braid then 12 or 14# mono or fluoro. Much thinner line equals much deeper cranking.  The first time I ever got a DD22 down to 22' was using 20# braid.

I agree I had a similar experience late in the year with a 6XD and it appeared to get down deeper then the Invisix and was heavier. I do worry about wind knots but depth won't be an issue. Once the weed line develops it will be perfect to ride and tick off the tops of those weeds which will be perfect.

 

It doesn't work like I expect I'll respell with the Invisix and move it over to my finesse set-up.

12lb Tatsu for small/mid size cranks and 17lb test for bigger cranks.
