I have had tooth problems and sinus issues all winter.  PLUS our weather has been brutal anyways.  my ailments are all kinda on the mend now and the sky is blue, but i found out that I am perfectly fine with NOT fishing that much in the winter.  our waters get cold.  high 40's?  fish still kinda bite, but the windows are abbreviated.   I have a dry suit, but putting one on is a PIA.  i dont even find any laughter in "burping" the suit anymore.  :D

I have my gear ready, and I am waiting for more spring like things.  I was thinking next weekend would be my jumping off point, but I just got a calendar reminder that it is our spring TURKEY OPENER.  I have to let a consultant go at work and I am taking him turkey hunting.  we are buds, and it bums me out I am out of budget for him.  i called my landowner friend and he said he is thick with birds.  it is go time.

okay..so the weekend after that...I am going fishing.  hahaha..lets just call it APRIL.  April is my new jumping off point.  lets do this California.  spring is springing?

Well, we have several members that live in North America's Siberia. I don't think you

will find much sympathy from them.

I live on the southern edge of this so called American Siberia. We just had a couple team members from our plant in Savannah Georgia onsite last week. One guy says hey we get cold down there to you know. I said oh yeah? It was -46 wind chill over Christmas. Conversation over.

lol...high 40's?? I'd be swimming in high 40's

It's going to be another 4 weeks before my trailer doesn't ride on top of the water. So sorry to hear you will have to wait another week to go fishing...

I probably should have put my gear away between Jan 1 and March 15 tbh.

We've been stuck in low 50s water temps until this week and shore fishing has been SLOW.  Finally hit 59 this week so hopefully when I'm back in town things will have picked up

That is an early season. Ours doesn’t start until the middle of April and ends in late May. Good luck chasing gobblers.

Yeah, I’m pretty sure it’s gonna be at least another week before I’m boating ?

I used to fish year round years ago, not anymore. As I've gotten older, I just don't like the cold and I live in the deep south. Put everything up around Thanksgiving (give or take) and get everything out in late February to mid March depending on our temps.

I’d rather put spring and summer fishing on the back burner than winter fishing

I don't do well in the winter.  Water temps hit the low 40's, high 30's most of winter.  I'll struggle all day in the cold and maybe get one or two bites, if I'm lucky.  But I still go fishing because in the spring, it's usually too windy to be safely out on the water.  As bad as the temperatures are in the winter and summer, they're the only two seasons where I don't have to fight high winds.  So while the fishing might not be as good, at least I can try.

The next four days have wind speeds in the low 20's with gusts in the 40's.  I've fished in those conditions many times before, and it's no fun in my kayak.  Saturday is 10mph with gusts around 21.  If that holds, it'll be the first time I've fished in three weeks, and probably the last time I fish for another three weeks.  By late May, early June, it usually calms down enough to get back out on the water, at least semi-consistently.

Same here.  We had a few team members come up from Texas and one of them didn't bring a jacket.  I squared him away with an extra jacket and gloves and he promised me BBQ next time I am down south.

From October to the end of January I’m done. That’s waterfowl season and my first love when it comes to the outdoors. I start bass fishing and playing golf in April.
