Looking for an inexpensive spinning rod for tossing a 2lb wireless sonar sensor from bank

I hope someone can help me find the proper rod for this;  I don't have to get out very far, maybe less than 60 feet in still waters... looking for Bass of course!

I  just don't want to break the rod and lose the sensor!  I already have the reel (Revros LT 2000) bought a few years back...
I was thinking along the line of a  7' heavy, fast tip and use 50lb braided line (not sure of weight I need)

TIA... SpokaneDude

I need to edit parts of my post:  Reel is a Diawa BG 3000 tossing 50 lb braid... sorry, couldn't figure out how to edit the original above!

Reel should handle that - I'd go higher braid to be sure.

Standard heavy power rods only go to 1.5 oz...for a 2oz weight you're looking at an  inshore or surf rod...this'll handle it and for under $50

Just get UglyStik GX2 for $39 and you can use the rod for fishing when needed as well.

Hey Guys... the weight of the sonar sensor is 2 pounds, not two ounces!  It's 1/2 of a Namo Fish Finder.

Do the Berkley 8’ Big Game Spinning Rod, Two Piece XXH $35  , It will do it, I am casting 2lb weight with it. If you want I can go to my truck and take picture for you.

I have Dobyns Mag Swimbait rods but they are expensive for your job.

I found a  Penn Squadron III Surf Spinning Fishing Rod Titanium/Red/Gold, 10' - Medium Heavy - 15-30lb - 2pc for $70 on Amazon...

I think it will work, since it's similar to what you have suggested... and I'm familiar with the Penn name

If you need to get two POUNDS out to casting distance I’d be thinking about something other than a fishing rod. That’s 32 ounces. A big surf rod will throw 8 and bait for a common big surf rig, so 12-16 ounces. I have an 8oz rated surf rod and I’ve throw. 12 plus bait for about 16-18 ounces total and wouldn’t do it again. You’re really straining the rod. If it were me I’d be looking at a 12-16 ounce rated rod and given what you’re doing I’d go with 130 lb braid.

I wouldn't use braid or spinning (of course I wouldn't cast a FF either) I'd use a conventional fiberglass rod. We use to use 8' rods and Penn conventional reels with 50 or 60 lb mono, and would fling 16-24 oz jigs underhand quite a bit for cod from a rocking boat. You should be able to lob 2 lbs fairly easily from land with something like that. If I was going to go through all that trouble, I'd just tow it behind an RC boat...

This seems like a recipe for disaster. I'm surprised they would make a castable sonar transducer that weighs 2 lbs. I definitely wouldn't use braid for that. If you haven't already bought it I would look for a different option. 2 lbs is a ton of weight to try to cast.

I'd load that B in a water balloon slingshot and launch it.  Seriously though, I'd think a more  quiet entry would be beneficial.

What fish finder is 2 pounds? Jesus

I think the op may be mistaken, the ones I’ve seen are more like 3oz.

BIG MISTAKE ON MY PART!!  It's 2.6 ounces! not pounds!  Sorry for putting all of you through this waste of time... I certainly appreciate it from all of you, and in the future I'll have my wife verify weights for me!☹️

two pounds.  can you just put some line at your feet and simply throw it like baseball?  60 feet?

use one of those Chuck-It dog ball throwing toys.!

This was going to be my option, 2 lbs is heavy as frick to be casting. Grab some heavy braid and toss her as hard as you can, good ol handlining it.

That being the case, look for a cheap Heavy saltwater rod, longer will cast it farther, so maybe a 2 pc surf casting rod. Check out Purefishing, they do Ugly stix, Shakespeare, and such. You might even find a combo.

You can even cast it like a surf rod where you lay out 6’ or so of line and launch it like a trebuchet. If needed you can get a surfcasters trigger which I found useful for heavy baits that tore up the finger.

Agreed! Look for a cheap, shorter inshore rod.

Rod I posted above will handle that as long as you don't try 'for the fence'...just a good lob should get it out far enough.
