Chilidog Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I have had an ongoing temperature issue since I purchased my boat in 2019. Since I have recently joined this site I thought I would see if anyone has had this problem. I have a Lowrance hds live 9 and 12 on my boat. The temperature readings on all of my temperature sources are high. They are about 8 degrees high on all sources. However they are not identical as they vary a degree or so. I have been in contact with Lowrance on several occasions but they have never found a solution. Has anyone ever experienced this? I had my dealer work with Lowrance also and they replaced the NMEA temp probe without improved results. Quote
Woody B Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I had a Garmin, along with my Lowrance stuff for a while. The temperature on the Lowrance was 1 degree higher than the Garmin. I never worried about it. I use the same source for temperature on both my HDS lives now. I don't know if the reading is exact but I don't think it's off 8 degrees. I've never bothered to set the temperature offset since I use a single source. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 20, 2023 Super User Posted March 20, 2023 How are you coming up with the fact that data returned is high and what sources besides the NMEA temp do you have? Also, are your units running the latest software and are they just NMEA networked or are they networked with Ethernet as well? Quote
Chilidog Posted March 20, 2023 Author Posted March 20, 2023 My temperature sources are a NMEA temperature probe, Lowrance 3 in 1 transducer and a Minn Kota US2 transducer on the Ultera trolling motor. This has been a problem since day one. The temperature data is compared to the other boat I own, other boats on the lake and temperature data from the lake associations. I believe they are NMEA networked. This is how the boat came rigged with the Ranger cup package. Quote
Super User WIGuide Posted March 27, 2023 Super User Posted March 27, 2023 That one definitely has me scratching my head. I would try pulling from your 3 in 1 transducer and making sure you have the specific model transducer selected and see if that helps. If it's pulling from there you may also be able to go to pages ->Settings->Sonar->Instillation->Temperature Calibration. The other thing you could do right now is with the boat out of the water is see how they read in relation to the ambient air temp. You should be able to put some sort of thermometer right next to it and see what the reading is. 2 Quote

If everything is networked together and pulling from the same transducer it all should be reading the same. Like WIGuide said. Pull from that 3n1. That will give you the best reading. 1 Quote
Chilidog Posted April 1, 2023 Author Posted April 1, 2023 I have a 3 in 1 transducer that is not installed yet. I plugged it in to my HDS 12 live just to test the temperature in the garage. It seems to be accurate. I will know more when I finally get the boat in the water in May. My other two temperature sources are high, so I will not use them. I am unable to calibrate any of my temperature sources which is not a big deal if the 3 in 1 transducer is accurate. I will use it for me HDS live 12 unit and my HDS 9 unit that is upfront. Thanks for your help. 1 Quote
Woody B Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 I need to add to my previous post, I've noticed the temperature on my 3 in 1 is slow to change. IE, it was 36 degrees when I launched my boat a month or so ago. Water temp was in the mid 50's but it took 30 minutes or so for my reading to get that high. A couple weeks ago they had the coal/natural gas steam generating station running. They rarely run it. I went up to the discharge. Water temp was 80 degrees but it took a long time for my reading to get that high. I confirmed the 80 degree reading with my infrared thermometer, and my dipping my hand into the water. (air temp was in the 40's I considered jumping in LOL) My 3 in 1 read high even after moving to cooler water for a while too. Quote
