For anybody that owns a Dobyns spinning rod, would you recommend the 702SF Medium/Light or the 703SF Medium for finesse presentations? I am leaning towards the 702 because I like the idea of being able to throw lighter baits as well, but I'm not sure which one to pick. I was also wondering if you do have the 703 model, are you able to go below the luring rating listed? The lure rating on the Med/Light is 1/8-1/2 and the Medium is 3/16-5/8. Keep in mind I normally fish creeks or small strips of river. Any response would be appreciated.

702. Great for neds, drop shot, little swim suits on 1/8 head.

Thanks for your reply. One more question, what reel size would you recommend and would you go with braid to fluoro or straight fluoro? I was just gonna get a 2500 and then use 15 pound braid with a 10-12 pound fluoro leader. Thanks again!

I have the 703 and don't absolutely love it. I still throw ned rigs, wacky rigs, shakey heads, etc. on it, but if I had the choice I'd go back and pick the 702.

Ditto the above - go with the 702.

Pretty close to what I'm running on mine. 2500 size reel, 20#Hi-Vis Smackdown, 10#FC leader.

Depends on the brand as frame sizes differ. Shimano would be 2500 and a Daiwa would be a 3000.  I run both 10 and 12 pound braids to a leader.  I rarely run larger than 8 pound floro and will drop to 6 if the water is very clear.

my Dobyns spinning is a 712 Kayden.  I think.

it is much more bendy than the Fury.  IMHO.  I can land my baits pretty gentle-like with small casts since it is whippy.  I'm gonna try a Free-Rig on it this year.

I had a 703 paired up with a 2500 Sedona for a few seasons and part ways with it because I couldn't stand the reel seat. I used it for every finesse application under 1/4oz, it's got decent sensitivity and I miss the ease of skipping baits with it.

I will not buy a spinning rod that doesn't feature the FUJI VSS TS Reel Seat.
