Cbump Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 Two day tournament on a local trophy bass lake starting tomorrow. I think this is going to be the ticket right here in about 8-10’ Water. Dobyns Champion Carolina Riggin Special Daiwa Elite 20lb invisx 1oz tungsten Spro swivel 6/0 jungle hook 7” mag fluke Do you Carolina rig? Reports have been that fish were shallow (63 deg water temp), but it’s currently 33 degree air temp today and will be low 30s tomorrow and Sunday during the tournament. So I think they’ll fall back a little. Also have swim jig, 3/8 t-rig, spinnerbait, jerkbait, pitching jigs ready to go, with weightless fluke/senko as an “oh crap, I gotta get bit” backup. 6 Quote

KP Duty Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I like a jerkbait during a spring cold front. I'd have an x-rap on deck. 2 Quote
Super User NorthernBasser Posted March 17, 2023 Super User Posted March 17, 2023 Good luck! I can honestly say I have never fished the C Rig before. 1 Quote

Super User WRB Posted March 17, 2023 Super User Posted March 17, 2023 63 surface water temp should be late pre spawn early spawn. Cold air has a slow affect to bass unless wind stirs the water column. We all have our confidence lures mine are jigs and worms, swimbaits during pre spawn. Don’t see any listed by the OP, different strokes for different folks. Tom 2 Quote

Three types actually. Swim jig with paddle tail swimbait trailer, 3/8 finesse jig with craw trailer, 1/2 pitching jig with sweet beaver trailer. ??♂️ Fluke is a swimbait too right? Chris Quote
Super User WRB Posted March 17, 2023 Super User Posted March 17, 2023 I don’t read between lines to well and a Fluke is a soft jerk bait to me. Regarding the traditional C-rig (ball & chain) never use it, do use a slip shot rig. Heavy weight tend to wedge into rock where I fish. No idea how deep the bass are without being on the water. You pre fished and should know. Good luck, Tom 1 Quote
Cbump Posted March 17, 2023 Author Posted March 17, 2023 Pre fishing today. The 10-30 mph wind has the water about 58 now. Quote
KSanford33 Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 One thing no one has mentioned yet is to use your t-rig for a lizard. I don't know about your area, but they kill that lure around the spawn here. 2 Quote

C-rigged when the water was in the 50's, T-rigged when the water was 60+. Not sure when the lizard went 'out of style', but I'm going to throw it more this spring. 3 Quote

An all black one accounted for PB during one summer. I'll fish a lizard year round. Perfect combo of creature bait and worm. 2 Quote
VolFan Posted March 17, 2023 Posted March 17, 2023 I like that soft jerk rigged on a c-rig so that the nose juuuuust turns up a little. I makes it pop up and flutter /glide down. Caffeine Shads are my favorite but it works with any. 2 Quote
BassCats Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 I have caught some good fish on the largest Zoom fluke on a dropshot Quote
JediAmoeba Posted March 18, 2023 Posted March 18, 2023 Flukes do one thing for me - catch loads of Pickerel. Water near 60 I can only dream of...We are still holding in the 30's here. Quote
Super User gulfcaptain Posted March 18, 2023 Super User Posted March 18, 2023 A trick worm neko rigged, if it got sunny, no wind, start to warm, buzzbait, rat, frog. Big girls eat those in the spring. Biggest on a buzz was a 7.8 in 58 degree water. Also had a 6.10 that morning. Quote
Super User Catt Posted March 18, 2023 Super User Posted March 18, 2023 Sure hope the bass read this! 3 1 4 Quote
