Seeing as this has turned into a pretty interesting thread, I wonder if there are strong opinons on trailer X vs trailer Y? I recall a bunch of people talking about x-zone swammers being better on swimjigs than other trailers, but then they kind of disappeared. And the TB guys with the River to Sea preference. And at least one pro using the biospawn for a similar reason. Anways, I have lots (and lots) of keitech fat impacts, but perhaps the wag is too much? Does it really need more roll?

Have you found one trailer catching way more than others? Is there a 'best', is it situational, or just put whatever decent quality paddletail you have around on there and be done with it?

I ran through those Biospawns a few years back on a DJ California swimjig, I moved away from them cause they were hard for me to get locally.

Oh for sure. To me the jig is the delivery method and the trailer is the payload, and yes situational, pick any three grub, paddle, or craw/creature and have at it.

The 3.8 Fat Impact works better for me than any other trailer I have tried. If I want a little less action or smaller profile I go with a Damiki Anchovy Shad.

I have a jig tied on all the time. That's saying a lot because I usually only carry 3-4 rods. As others have said, you can swim any kind of jig, but I'll limit this to strictly purpose-built swim jigs.

I look at it like a grid. One one side you have the depth you're going to fish: Shallow, mid, and deep. I use 1/4oz for shallow, 3/8oz for mid, and 1/2oz for deep. On the other side you have water clarity: Clear, stained, and muddy. For clear I use green pumpkin or another color from Siebert's that's a kind of brown with yellow and red mixed in (I don't remember the name). For stained I usually go with a lighter color, so some kind of white (whether it has flakes or hints of other colors doesn't really matter to me). And finally for muddy, I use black and blue. As far as trailers, it's either a Keitech or Fluke.

That's 9 swim jigs that should cover whatever conditions you come across.

From looking at AJ's post and some of the other comments, it's mostly trending towards subtle/tight wag, but a couple of people with Keitechs as the right trailer, IE big wag, and a few with body roll as a priority. At a minimum it's got me in experiment mode on seeing if I can figure out what I'm looking for to know which one to use. Grass is coming real soon in texas so I'll have just the situation to play.

Thanks everyone! I'll probably work down the keitech, jackall, biospawn, rage bug as I have them all in GP or GP/watermelon laminate, and a couple of places with reasonably clear water.

I found with a thumping swimbait trailer, The skirt will pulsate and I think that helps a lot. So good like a sparser skirt

What do you like in a good thumping trailer?

Keitech got too much kick for you? Believe it or not they’re no match for scissors ? I’d rather start out with too much kick and adjust it down. This is a little mod I do to the tail of almost every one.
