Sleeper Craw

Anybody fish these yet? Are they as good as the Dark Sleeper?

 

They were in stock at JLS. I got lucky and was able to snag a few. If you blinked,  they were gone.

They are dropping here on the 24th, I'm definitely going to try to pick up a few then.

Megabass rep I know showed me these a few weeks ago. They look pretty sweet. Apparently it’s more durable plastic that won’t rip as easy as the gills and darks. Also it stands up in a defensive position on the bottom supposedly.

They arrived today. I only ordered three. I figured they will be everywhere soon. They look cool and smell odd. We will see how they work out this weekend.

I can't wait to see who's first to remember the berkely research about the most bites coming on craws with no claws. And then snip the claws off these.

They look cool, I would be shocked if they are better than say a beaver on a football head or something similar. It seems like these realistic craw baits never work as good as you would think  although I wouldn’t be suprised if megabass put in the work to design a bait that catches BOTH fish and fisherman, they are good at both.

You can go all the way back to the Dance's Craw from the 80's or 90's and count up the failures

I did get a lot of Smallies on the Dance n craw back in the day. Great River bait

In hand it reminds me of a tube craw. Venom makes one that is kind of similar.

It’s not so hard to make something look like a crawfish, it’s making it look like a moving crawfish that is hard.

 

The realistic ones look like a crawfish statue being dragged through the water. A Beaver doesn’t look very realistic sitting still, but in motion it looks much more realistic.

 

Fish react more to motion than stationary appearance, in my experience. I would expect this Sleeper Craw to catch fish when it’s falling or just after hitting the bottom. Not so much while being worked along the bottom.

You’re very right, it’s actually absurd how much a t rigged beaver being hopped looked like a fleeing crawfish. It’s the exact same movement/profile.

Hudd bugs work alright but never felt like they preferred it over a standard craw presentation. Megabass has a lot more wins than losses though so interesting to see how it shakes out

I have done really well with the yum Ned craw which is a realistic crawfish bait. Perhaps you are fishing them wrong. The trick is to fish them on a stand-up jig so that the crawfish stands up off the bottom and gives a natural presentation. Skirted jig works well too or if you want to go weedless use an ewg and a skirt

With this level of hype if they bring them there it will look like Walmart after the doors open for Black Friday. I'd rather continue fishing with my old baits for now than try to wade through the crowd for that one.

Same reason a bucktail jig in brown or green actually resembles a craw moving along the bottom.

Seems like they tried to ride the hype behind the Sleeper Gill, I think a jig/trailer combo takes the cake here. The pattern variety is shocking at launch.
