i'm not talking the tequila shots, let's get drunk stuff.  i am talking sipping, drink like a civilized adult stuff.  :D

i have been reading about tequilas.  i like them.  there is a gang of tequilas still made in the old traditions.  no additives.  old school.  i seek those.  then i read about Fortaleza.  i read about it late because it was HARD TO FIND.  some article comes out and everyone runs for it.  my friend found me one!!  $65.

i have been occasionally sipping La Gritana.  a woman owned, small businees, no additives, no preservatives, no color, tequila.  so good!!  just a tiny glass to sip by the campfire.  i was told it rivals Fortaleza, but there is only one way to tell.

BOOM!

Fortaleza is very good.  I have the plata in the cabinet.  If you like bigger, richer, and somewhat sweeter tequillas then here are three extra anejo to try:

Cava d'Oro - incredibly fruity nose (peaches and apricots).  Light on the body (compared to the other two).  A little sweet, but not overly.  Still that distinct tequilla smell, but muted.

Addictivo - fairly fruit nose, but the fruits are more stewed that fresh cut.  Also a good bit more caramel on the nose.  A touch sweeter than Cava d'oro and a much longer finish.  Rich aftertaste.

Compoveda - Very rich.  The nose is almost entirely caramel, honey, vanilla, and a touch of oak.  Rich body and fairly sweet in the mouth.  Long aftertaste.

I try to keep all three in the house because they are all similar but still different.  They have the sweetness/richness of a rum with a fruity tequila flavor profile.

thanks,

rick

all Anejo?

i've been sipping Silvers and Reposado.  i like the more "in my face" tequila flavors.  my Silver of choice has been Tequila Ocho silver.  never got the Reposado.

Fortaleza Anejo is vanilla and cream, I don't love tequila, but I do love this one.

I've got 12, 11 and 5 year Asombroso in the cabinet, perhaps the finest tequila I've had.......and I thought 1800 was pricey.

I find Anejos too aged.  like brandy.

I came up sipping silvers.  but now, Reposados are my Cinderella.  and getting drunk on Tequila never works for me.  I rarely drink now.   my liver sucks.  so I really baby it.  hahah.

so if I do sip a tequila it has to be AWESOME for me.  I am not doing any celebrity, or mainstream ones.  just because you are handsome/pretty/can play a mean guitar/etc doenst make you a tequila master.

Very true, but iced cold Casamigos straight from the bottle that you just pulled out of an ice cooler while you stood in the pool isn't the worst celebrity tequilla.  In fact it is quite lovely.

818 is a better celebrity tequila than Casamigos. Kardashian's are part owners from what I gather. Tequila is smooth, sweet, and won't make your ass big.

The tequilla with the worm in it was a big deal for us when i was stationed in alaska. Some more than others wanted the worm saying it really put the lights out for them.

Man, ever since I read this thread earlier today I’ve been beating my brains out trying to remember this particular brand of (I’m sure it was cheap) tequila. Back in the early 80’s my friends and I would go camping, and we’d take a bottle of this tequila and pour it into a jug of Sunny D and pass it around. We called it Tekillya. Ah, to be young and foolish!

I was in a black bottle that had a textured exterior, and was a tall cylinder with a short neck. If you can remember the brand, I’d appreciate it before I end up in a sanitarium!

It’s a common occurrence! I’ll still take a shot if someone else is buying it but I have to try really hard to keep my cool haha. Maybe once a year on cinco de mayo or something
